    1973 360

After I blew up my 65 Barracuda's original Commando 273 in November of 1972 (at app. 150K), I put in a 340 from a wrecked 72 Charger. Low compression motor (8.5 to one), 240 net hp. Previous owner had a 3310 Holley on the original Thermoquad intake manifold. That mis-matched setup fell on its...

    W2 intake manifolds pics

1974 is probably right. The Rod Shop was doing high rpm small block engine development for Chrysler in 1973 and 1974. At the end of that program is when the W2 heads were utilized. The engine used an aluminum tunnel ram with Holley 6109 carburetors. I'm trying to find out what tunnel ram...

What is the horse power benefits

A better than average build with a reground cam? W/3.55’s? Not happening. Not possible. Speak with Oregon cams. They’ll set you up with something along the lines of a cam of 226@050 with more lift. If you choose an OEM AVS, you’ll need the MoPar dual plane intake which if it’s actually found...

Should I be feeling more power?

Hello all: New member here and happy to belong to this forum! I recently acquired a 1972 Duster 340. It’s a beautiful car in fantastic condition. Nearly everything has been “redone” and the motor is a built 340. I don’t know “jack” about motors and the specifics related to HP and torque...

    G3 in 64 Valiant update

...from last year. I took out the comp cam and replaced it with a custom cam from FRP, ground by Texas Speed. I replaced the inertia big valve pre-Eagle head with 6.1 MMX prepped heads. I took off the dual quad edelbrock intake and carburetors and went to a Ritter intake and a 1050/4150 QF carb.

    360 vs 383

I drove one regulalry for years and for 1,000s of miles so I do in fact have a good deal of first hand experience with that particular combo. The car was 1 of 934 383/4bbl equipped Coronet 440s so it was basically a Super Bee. I posted a quick video of it, see post #80. Sounded OK. Pistons in...

    273 correct heads?

On my 73 318 block I have cast iron heads 2843675. These were used on 67 318s and 68-69 273s with 2-bbl carbs. 1.78 intake/1.50 exhaust. Small chambers 62-64cc, small ports. I had Basko Engines in Gilbert AZ open valves to 1.94/1.60, polish bowls, used lightweight valves, 320 springs. They did...

    66 Dart/74 la 318 starter issue

Turns out it was any one of a number of things, or a combination. A previous owner spliced two wires going into the bulkhead connector, badly, (I’m not sure why they’re spliced in the first place), so that was a tenuous connection, the wire from the solenoid to the starter showed continuity, but...

Are you wanting fun 100% on the street only, 50/50 fun on the street and strip, or 20/80 on the street and strip? Hey Turk. To state, 500cfm carbs are on tons of 318s, are cheap and plentiful, and work fine for a myriad of 318ci set ups even on small valve engines. Also, torque is the proper...

    My 340 getting 6 mpg

    1) I have a bit of trouble with big metering-rod carbs, and late-closing intake valves. I find Holley carbs easier. Except, for strictly cruising, then the M-rod system is hard to beat. And so, my favorite is and will always be, the Thermoquads. When the Airgaps began to show up at the...

    Oil dipstick full mark

"Most" all small blocks do fill with 4 quarts in the pan, plus the filter. Trucks take an extra quart and are usually full at 6 quarts, including filter. What you're not grasping is, not all A body pans are shaped the same. Even though all the passenger car pans are 4 quart pans, the shape...

The engine is a '69 318 block with unknown, but likely stock internals, 163 (smog?) heads, Edelbrock Performer intake and carb, early 90 degree oil filter adapter, stock A-body oil pan (294) in a '65 Barracuda. Came out of a '68 Dart, so wasn't the original engine in that car either. Previous...

    My 340 getting 6 mpg

Definitely have some tuning to do, you should be getting closer to double that for mileage. For reference, the 340 in my Duster is a '68 340, .060" over, 9.8:1 compression with 308 heads, 2.02/1.60 valves, 65 cc's chambers, stage II ported and flowing 264 cfm at .500", it has a Lunati 60404...

Exhaust valves will be 1.50. The best thing you can do is add a cam, double roller timing set and good valve springs. Then a good carb 600cfm or better ( [FOR SALE] - Edelbrock Carb ). Or buy a new or used AFB, AVS, or TQ. Work the heads like you said and mill them so they seal and up the...

    Another 318 set up

Why would you kill the engine with a 500 CFM carb and those small valves? It appears that in your mind you think that’s going to make a bunch of torque (it doesn’t) and that torque moves the car (it doesn’t). I’d rethink your philosophy. And anything under a 3k converter is a waste of money.

Are Speedmaster Heads Good? I've Heard a Lot of Bad Press on Edelbrock 340 Heads Lately

If you have the budget, I have heard really good things about the trick flow 190s. I will say that the speedmasters intake bolt holes seemed "off" I put on a edelbrock performer and no matter what I did the bolts felt like they wanted to crossthread and go in at a wonky angle. And then I put...
