    340 or 408?

I told you earlier if you get your Edelbrock heads and Victor340 intake ported you can easily make 550 with a stroker. That is if you get the right guy doing the porting work. Don’t mess around with a 2.02 valve. Jump up to a 2.055 intake valve. Years ago my stock W2 heads flowed 260cfm&.450...

    340 or 408?

Your Edelbrock heads and Victor340 intake will work fine getting you to 500-600 plus horsepower. Both of course will need ported and I recommend a 2.055 valve and a 5 angle valve job. Then I recommend a .625-.650 lift cam to take advantage of your porting gains. I’ve proven both a solid lift or...

    340 or 408?

If you are building a stroker a lot of folks (including me) used a roller cam. Which in today’s world opens up a lot more options. And roller cams will make more power with more drivability. The bonus of using an early magnum block is it will accept the LA style edelbrocks or other similar heads...

    340 or 408?

Same heads and intake, appropriate cam for intended use, yeah, it'll rev just like your 340, with more power. (My opinion only).

    340 or 408?

So if I go 408 from a 360 , would my top end work if the right cam was selected? (edelbrock heads and Victor intake) I would port them as well.

    Cam duration question

...with the most torque for a street car was a 465 lift 302 duration. It was an oval track cam. The engine had 10.5 compression a stock 70 340, 915 J 202 heads. LD 340 intake 750 4 corner holley style carb. A bone stock 340 with bigger cam and an Edelbrock intake. Stock 3200 converter and...

    ~450hp from stock stroke 340?

What did you use for a head flow number? To the OP, I would not put a hydraulic roller in it. Solid, the maintenance is so overstated, check it once a year and you’re done. It’s like a physical for your engine. You choose a roller so you can snap the valve open to a useable lift quicker, but...

Streetable 340 making 450 hp… meh… I suppose I will post my combo in my 340 Duster. 10.5:1 flat top pistons 284/484 purple cam (241 duration at .050) hydraulic flat tappet. Rebuilt X cylinder heads 1.5 Harland sharp rockers LD340 intake Edelbrock 750 3200 stall FTI converter 727 transmission...

    ~450hp from stock stroke 340?

The 340 in my Duster was built with the intent of it being between 430-450hp. I haven't had it on the dyno, just a street street car that I daily drive most of the year. Based on power/weight in other stuff I've driven and somewhat similar builds I've seen dyno'd I would wager it's probably more...

    Drag Week 2024 live feed..

A recently met friend bought a set of 2.02 valve Speedmaster heads from me. His girlfriend is racing for the first time this year and averaged 12.50’s for the week. They will be installing the Speedmaster heads this winter and I will be gasket matching their Edelbrock dual plane intake. She said...

    ~450hp from stock stroke 340?

Yup, that’s why I think I will be able to get there with this combo. Definitely am thinking about getting bigger cam than what I initially suggested, I think 750 Holley (whether that be a DP or street demon) carb with a couple of adjustments should be able to handle whatever cam I plan to throw...

    ~450hp from stock stroke 340?

The 380hp crate engine makes 400 hp with similar cam and stock magnum heads, don't sound like 450 hp with Trick Flow is that much of s stretch. What's the cr gonna be ? Here's a 450 hp stock short block 5.9l with edelbrock heads and similar cam...

    ~450hp from stock stroke 340?

Hey all, I’m starting my 340 build and I’m looking to get around 450 hp or possibly even more out of my stock stroke 340. This is mainly a street build so drivability is a must. Stock bottom end 72 340 (Keith black pistons), trick flow heads (Specs for them), 1.6 harland sharp roller rockers...

Are Speedmaster Heads Good? I've Heard a Lot of Bad Press on Edelbrock 340 Heads Lately

My friends car just ran 6.40 in not the best weather at Norwalk and that would be a 10.0’s in the 1/4. 60 foot times aren’t where they should be yet, only shifting at 6400 rpm with his 408 with ported Edelbrock heads and ported super Victor at 3200 pounds. There’s 3-4 things I Dont like about...

    .480/230 cam in an 8.5 CR 360?

I bought a truck with this motor in it. Pulled it out around '03, stole the rebuilt 587 heads for another car, then ended up putting some well-used 915s on it. Stuck it in my '65 around 2010, without ever looking at the short block. I wanted to know what i was dealing with, and I have too much...

UPDATE - Looks so good but ya can't shut the hood

For as rare as those seem to be and the money they are commanding, especially as one that looks as good as yours does, it would be wise to go another route. I have a 70-71 that needs restoration, it looks fairly well used. I was told it was worth $350 USD minimum.

UPDATE - Looks so good but ya can't shut the hood

Agreed, I do what I need to or want to on my cars. Hack it up to make it work if you need to. I did on my air cleaner base on my Roached Runner to clear the taller Edelbrock intake and 2 stage nitrous plate.

UPDATE - Looks so good but ya can't shut the hood

this is a Duster with edelbrock rpm intake with their 800 avs2 & 1/2" heat sink. Don't think I want to mess with the original & live with the one that fits. Don't want to lose the spacer. Now I have a nice air cleaner on the shelf to look at. Thanks folks -Mike

UPDATE - Looks so good but ya can't shut the hood

Yup its usually a spacer or the intake is too high issue. Fun snippet of info the Edelbrock Torker while it is not popular for some was a low rise single plane that was designed to fit under a street car hood...:)

    67 commando 273 issue

An old racer friend of mine had wood spacers on his tunnel ram with no issues. In fact this one is wood fiber and has a dual bolt pattern. THis one is Edelbrock 8723. Yes, the carb base is smaller on the early smaller cfm carbs. Apparently the spacer didn't have double holes drilled like the...

    67 commando 273 issue

So I picked up the suggested edelbrock 9266 spacer and the bolt pattern on my AFB and factory intake are quite different. I could maybe butcher this spacer but it won’t be ideal just the way the correct gasket overlaps the 9266 for comparison. Am I missing something? My buddy who is a retired...

    factory magnum head replacement options

Speedmaster makes a cast iron Magnum stock replacement head. Speedmaster makes an aluminum LA head that is basically a copy of the Edelbrock Performer RPM LA head. EQ (Engine Quest) makes a cast iron Magnum stock replacement head. Most likely EQ and Speedmaster are getting their cast iron...

Well Vic is knocking on the door for some 6.30’s hopefully

It’s not my engine but I ported the Edelbrock heads and he’s borrowing my Super Victor intake I ported. He ended up going to a .040 bore 360 and a 4 inch crank. I can’t give out all the cam specs but it’s a roller cam in the .660 area. Alcohol carb of unknown size. 3200 pounds with driver...

    Interesting intake on Facebook tonight

Ohhhhhhhhhhh...dayum. You can NOT say a 1970's designed intake is quicker than the much vaunted AG. I know on the dyno an AG looks good compared to single plane stuff. BUT, like I always say the dyno will lie to you if you let it. What a conventional water brake engine dyno can NOT do and...

Switch to manual brakes makes car run better?

278/288/112, and 204/214@050 on a ~ 7.8 Scr smogger, with a stock convertor and 2.76 gears. How is your power below 3000rpm? How you liking passing gear at 60 mph?

    Interesting intake on Facebook tonight

The Edelbrock parts were a bit too expensive for a kid at that time, the Pro Stock intake was much more affordable at that time. The things we learn with age! LMAO
