    holley carb help,transition/stage

.075 to .069 in IAB is a good sized jump. Enough that if that's going to effect the problem condition it should be noticible. As far as the secondary t-slot exposure, someone here may know the HPs and see this. If not next time the carb is off the engine, see if the secondary t-slots are...

    Solutions for too much compression

So the T-slot miraculously stops working at 15 mph?. I've recorded primary booster flows well into the 2000's rpm range on some carbs so what does the carb run on until then?

    AVS2 tuning

Yes ... good info ! I glanced at the t-blades before installing but really didnt give it much thought after that . I can't visualize the idle and transition circuits on Eddies like I can on a holley .

Holley 870 street advenger - junk?

Why? There's a relationship between the IFR and IAB with the T-slot that needs to be balanced not only for AFR but also for where it begins to taper off for the start of primary booster flow. Not having a go just trying to understand what you're trying to achieve with the changes. Also when you...

Holley 870 street advenger - junk?

I second the why. That is way too small for most anything, even IF you squeeze the IAB down.
  6. DrCharles

Ok, one more question on the Holley jetting.

The more I think about it, I don't see how the AFR could ever be constant or leaning out (before the mains come in) with a big cam. Idle AFR set with the needle screws wherever it likes, as long as there's enough range, ok. But as Mattax said, AFR richens as the vacuum rises off idle from the...

    Engine Dieseling - Options?

I wouldn't have a problem with going smaller with the T slots. But before I did, I would look HARD for vacuum leaks.

    Engine Dieseling - Options?

...info somewhere on here indicated the idle Im at, really haven't tried to slow it down to much - Im all for rechecking, rechecking, and rechecking, I can easily close off mixture screws and shrink the T slot exposure more, even if a hammer is needed, I didn't hesitate to smack those Doug...

    First plug change.

You are probably really close with the 10.5 unless you don’t have T slot restricters. As the throttle blade opens the T slot gets richer, and that’s when the PV starts to open so it looks and IS rich, but not because the PV opened up, but because the T slot is too rich.

Carb tuning, larger accelerator pump nozzle?

Lots of thoughts, starting with I wish you changed only one or two things. :poke: That said I'll try to focus on what I think relates most to the shift into 1st gear. How much throttle are you using to get/keep the rpms up as you let out the clutch? (Quick Fuel 650 SS, Mech Secondary) TKO 600...

Dyno results - Tquad vs Holley vs Qjet - tuning issue, too rich

so your thinking the bypass holes in the choke tower should NOT be blocked off? also, on the 22 degree mixture screws, do you know why those are better to use than the others?

    AVS2 tuning

The clues are there.... IF the transfer slot position is correct, then idle quality should not change whether the rods are up or down. That is because there is insufficient airflow to activate the main system. I suspect your pri t/blades are open too far at idle { big[ger] cam? }. Depending on...

    Timing help needed

One more snip from Shrinker. Some of these things are context dependent, not absolute rules... " If the vac is less at say 9" to 11" then the t-slot needs to be more exposed so the idle mixture screw will probably be best idle at around 0.5 to 0.75 turn off the seat. The Idle mixture screw is...

    340 carburetor selection advice

A TQ will work just fine with longer duration cams. They tune the same way as other carbs. With bigger cams, as with other carbs, the IFR may need enlarging. So simple, remove the air horn, voila, there are the IFRs ready to be drilled. Jets & met rods easily changed. More bypass air maybe reqd...

    Holley Tuning

Are you talking about the primaries or the secondaries? If your secondaries are open too far and try to close the primaries to compensate for a high idle you might close off the transfer slot. Read this. Secondary/Transfer Slot/won't idle down

Dyno results - Tquad vs Holley vs Qjet - tuning issue, too rich

I think I can answer your questions. [1] The holes in the front of the choke housing is for bypass air. Earlier TQs had a passage in the baseplate. There was a notch in the top & one in the bottom of the BP. If BP air was needed, there would be an interconnecting hole drilled. So air was routed...

I’m gonna try this I think I had parts wrong in my head. Also I’m not getting any gas spraying out of the nozzle. Does the engine need to be running for this too work or should it always be ready to spray?

Actually when you look at the photo at BLP website you will see that I have exactly the block I posted link to. I confirmed that with BLP as well. I will post photos of the block to show holes in stacks. I see which ones go thru when I blow air thru them.

    Tuning issue on a 440

I was able to put the distributor on my Sun machine this morning and this is what I found: - 5 deg at 800 (1600 engine rpm) - 8 deg at 1000 ( 2000 engine rpm) - 10 deg at 2200 (4400 engine rpm) Vacuum advance is as follows: 5 deg at 13 inHg 10 deg at 16 inHg Which is close to the 70 HP curve...

Misfire at cruise, popping/afterfire at 3000RPM

The valve covers have been off and I manually checked the rockers for preload, but I didn't actually measure. Carb tuning, larger accelerator pump nozzle?

...You should not need a blue cam on the secondaries for the street. Orange cam for the secondaries should work. If you are going to restrict the T slot only the primary needs to be done. Make sure both T slots are even and not over exposed on both the pri and sec. Don't get concerned with...

    Thermoquad fuel leak

[1] The dripping fuel is coming from the acc pump shooter. When you actuated the t/lever, you also squirted fuel down the bore.....which leaked out through the worn shaft/hole in the base. [2] If the fuel leak was due to flooding or damaged caps on the body, it would leak all the time, not just...

    Holly carb help

You need T slot restrictors and probably need to look at the power valve channel restrictors. The wires you reference are for idle. If the idle mixture screws are working they throttle isn’t open too far. It may not be optimal but they aren’t open too far. You need to get a vacuum gauge on it...
