    (2)450 DP's vs (2)750 DP's

I really appreciate you chiming in on this! I’m following what you’re saying, and I like that idea. Easy enough to do. The one question I have is, how does that affect the PV timing? I understand it will affect the PV restrictions, and they will likely need to be reduced. But I’m not...

1987 318 Tuning with Summit Carb

Ok, let’s clear up some **** before you go down a rabbit hole you don’t want to. Unless you have way more T slot showing than what you showed, quit worrying about T slot exposure. Just stop. If not, you’ll go bat **** crazy trying to do something that isn’t THAT critical. How much is too...

Yeah, i'm not expecting a great idle and all that.. but would like to not have black sooty plugs from 5 mins of idling :)

    Lean idle. Rich cruise.

Already blocked the middle e hole. The others are .028 but I have 26s I'll put in. I think my timing is ok. 22 at idle. 34 WOT and 50 cruise. I can make the t slot restrictors I have blanks to drill. Thanks for the info. I'm learning.

Connecting PCV for the first time…is this nub at the back my carb where I’m supposed to connect it?

The main reason for using an electric vacuum generator is that engine vacuum is too low to operate the booster. Does the engine have a sizeable cam? You should hook up the PCV & see if it works. The carb jetting etc is designed to get about 3 cfm of airflow [ at idle ] from the PCV. If it does...

    Thermoquad........Ok AJ, WHAT NOW?

The T slot adjustment on the TQ is no different than any other carb. Ideally, you want 020 to 040 of slot at idle [ in gear if auto ]. Many of these carbs had bypass air holes in the baseplate [ BP ], near the mixture screws. The holes are drilled such that air enters from the t/bore along a...

    Idle Transfer Slot on secondaries?

...more at idle & THEN the mixture screws will hopefully work in adjusting idle quality. If not, blades may still be too high, exposing too much T slot. The fix for that is bypass air; one method is drilling holes in the t/blades. Some TQs & AVS production carbs reqd bypass air, which was...

    Power Valve Selection

...you balance it..... Likewise with the carb: the starting point is getting the correct amount of timing at idle. That is because timing affects T slot position, which has to be correct for the carb to properly function; this, in turn, affects idle vacuum, which becomes important for PV selection.

    Lean idle. Rich cruise.

Done. At least it's a start. all four corners starting at .070, since they were so HUGE. I didn't realize once the throttle plate is off, that T slot hole has no communication with the carb body other than the bottom . Easy peasy. blew them out......little brake clean. Nice and tidy. Will keep...

    Lean idle. Rich cruise.

No wonder Holleys run rich. Carter carbs DO run a restriction to the T slot. Carter called it the 'Economizer' [ & patented it ] for obvious reasons. In many TQs I have checked, it varies from 0.046" to about 0.052". Another name for this restriction is the Idle Down Channel. In the Ruggles QJ...

    Spark Plug Advice Needed

...You remove the carb & find too much transfer slot is exposed, giving a very rich idle that cannot be adjusted. To reduce the amount of exposed T slot, you drill holes in the t/blades for bypass air. Problem solved. Then when you are tinkering with ign timing, you notice the idle rpm...

@Newbomb Turk Are you suggesting T slot restrictors in the front and/or back? I run a 4 corrner Demon DP. Thanks

Slant 6 engine ignition timing stays retarded.

Turn distributor upside down so the drive pinion is pointing toward you. Notice how the distributor hold-down plate is held to the underside of the distributor body with a bolt. Notice how that bolt goes through a slot rather than a round hole. There you are. Also, if you're getting significant...

    Idle Transfer Slot on secondaries?

Yes. Pretty much. Yes, Allstate Carbs Depends on the Tslot size.

    Idle Transfer Slot on secondaries?

Ok the link with explanation is good and I understand it. This modification moves the IFR to below the fuel line making idle smoother for a lower vacuum system because it is submerged and less affected by air pressure? I see this modification can be done on both carbs as a typical modification...

    Idle Transfer Slot on secondaries?

Bewy, I hear and have seen how A significant Advance like 43° at idle can smooth out the idle. But if the mixture is off due to lack of airflow because of the throttle plate exposing to much of the T-Slot then it seems to me (not claiming to be an expert here) the added advance to compensate is...

...should start in the .068-.072 range to start. Your .028 main air bleed isn’t bad but .026 would most likely be better. Then you’ll need T slot restricters. They ALL need them. For a single 750 I start at .072ish and tune them from there. Once you do all that, block the power valve and...

    (2)450 DP's vs (2)750 DP's

I think you are about 7 thou too big on the MAB. That gets on the booster quicker and it changes your PV timing and T slot sizing. And of course main jet sizing.

    Carb will not adjust

360 wit 410 hp. Going to be a sizable cam to get 410. Post #3 nailed it. Check how much transfer slot is exposed on the pri bores at idle. I will bet it is more than 0.060"...& that would be the problem. Engine would need a LOT of timing at idle, likely 25-45*. That will close the pri t/blades...

    Quick Fuel Brawler carbs

I'll put this here. In another thread it was stated that these carbs are stupid fat OOtb and need a lot of work. What needs fixed/adjusted? TSR, IFR, IAB, T slot length? They are decent carbs for the money, I have the 770 VS version, everything is threaded for adjustability. What have you found?

Holley 4779 750 cfm Double Pumper

Demon, I have the same book. You missed the word 'system'. Idle system. Because the idle jet is part of a system that controls idle AND off idle. Some emission carbs had limiter caps on the idle mixture screws to stop tampering & rtetain the lean idle for emissions. Do you think the caps were...

Main bleeds are 34, from the factory.. But now I'm confused. I do know smaller bleeds will pull more fuel (I thought). I need less fuel at cruise.

    What Carb for Poly Stroker

I always START with the secondaries adjusted all the way closed so they stick when closed and then adjust until they barely do not stick. I never expose the t-slot on the secondaries, no matter what the "experts" say. It's never worked "for me".

    Thermoquad idling issues

[1] Whistle at idle. Some carbs do it, nothing wrong or anything to worry about. [2] T slot close to square & mixture screws 2 turns out? Turning the screws in should stall the engine. If not, the engine is getting fuel from somewhere other than the idle port + a small amount from the t slot...
