    Horsepower Estimate?

Nothing will convince people to change their minds, if they aren't open to receiving, evaluating, and acknowledging new information. Some people are just stuck in their ways and perceive everything that doesn't 100% agree with them as some kind of personal attack. They just go into fight mode...

300 HP out of a 318, is it possible with bolt ons?

That's more believeable than the Motor Trend 318 already and I don't even know the rest of the details.

    Whiplash cam. Your thoughts

    I put one in a 7.5 to 1 compression 440. Ported 452 heads. CH4B intake, 3310, Made 415hp and 465 torque on the dyno.

    318 cam

Well my point is/was ( with regard to the OP) use the stock 318 cam because installing a performance cam into an otherwise stock early 70s smogger 318 doesnt gan you much in the top end... I beleive its mainly because of the small port heads and small valves,

How would you rebuild this 318?

Correct. But how far does he want to go and how much money does he want to spend on a 318? Unless he's going to add a roller cam, some exotic heads, turbo or blower, he's not going to make a huge difference from what he has now. That's why I recommended sticking with what he has.

idk, the crossword? research 318 cam specs? go out to the garden and pick veggies? call around town looking for a set of magnum rings that apparently nobody has sitting on a shelf... i mean, lots of things... woah. wait. what was i saying? man i am hungry all of a sudden. anybody else want a sub?

    La318 cylinder head question

...wrote it; In the same sentence, the piston is at the top, then it is coming up. So, wth stroke is it on at what time? Looking at the factory 318 cam specs, with the cam installed 4* advanced, the intake should be opening at about 12* before TDC and closing 48* After Bottom dead center...

    318 build suggestions?

All that's true. What's also true is, not everyone wants a 360 in every application. THe 318 can get some really good mileage that's tough to get from a 360.

    318 build suggestions?

I know it's not cheap but I hope you get a chance to dyno it. Sounds like a fun combo.

    273/ 2 barrel camshaft options

Just so you know; a 318 is just the equivalent of a big-bore 318. So, anything off a 318 , except the piston assemblies, will swap over. Except the 65 and older heads, sorta need the matching bolt-angle intake. So then; if you intend to put a 4bbl on it, at some time in the future, IMO, I would...

    Hypothetical 318 Builds

There's been a lot of 318 talk recently, so I thought what better way to have a little fun than have a hypothetical 318 built thread? Just a couple of rules. Must be stock 3.31" 318 stroke and "whatever" bore. Whatever heads, cam and pistons is fine, but no stroker. You start talkin stroker this...

300 HP out of a 318, is it possible with bolt ons?

on my 318 roller engine, the cam swap, 4 barrel carb intake really did wake it up, but it wasn’t until I put some magnum heads and long tube headers when the combo really came alive!

    Tuning

Also dont get a smogger LA 318 and expect to tune any more than the given 150 Horse out of it...same with any other mid 70s era smog engine. AND, unless you arepaying top dollar you can expect any Mopar engine in a car to be either A: needing a rebuild. or B: already been gone over who knows how...

What is the horse power benefits

Yeah, you start using more lung power with a stroker and you're gonna need better heads real quick.

my 318 reved with the street hemi cam 2.02s torker door stop and a holley dp it was the best sounding small block ive had sounded better then my 11 to 1 340 gk243@50 108 lsa 508 lift cam torker door stop holley dp most like because the rhoads lifters dumbed down that cam

300 HP out of a 318, is it possible with bolt ons?

My Duster with a 318 that was 9.4-1 comp, Edelbrock heads and intake, NO whiplash cam, ran 11.70s 1/4 mile, it had to make around 300hp i figure.

    Edelbrock Victor small block head……

Did you check PTV clearance on the new set up? I know you said you bore scoped it and all…but it’d be good to be sure. Also, what cam were you running on the 318? Did you degree it? My Victors have almost .200 valve drop (don’t remember exactly at the moment) on the exhaust…that exhaust timing...

    Another 318 set up

honestly, if you want a 318, try find a running 318 magnum. clean up the heads with a little bowl porting & 5 angle vj, trim the guides a skoash, get hughes #1110 springs, thin head gasket, rering, get the roller cam reground by bullet cams using their HR259/316 or HR259/326 lobes on the...

    Sixpack on a 318 engine ?

Need a 340 cam or a tich more. Port the heads and use inexpensive LS 5.3 valves. 1.9"/1.55". You do need to install either the LS powdered metal guides or bronze guides, with the 8mm diameter. That also opens the door for beehive springs, retainers and locks. Go for it, only 22 CID difference...

    318 cam

Nice! No doubt it would like a lot more cam with the converters and gearing, but at least you had the right mindset and optimized the drivetrain for the 318 incher. I’ve always liked the ‘62 Belvedere. If this is the temporary motor, what does the future hold?

    Sixpack on a 318 engine ?

Yes! Do it. Send it done. Absolutely go for it. Cam size determines RPM range that works in concert with your converter, gear ratio, tire size and cars weight to achieve the intended goal.
