Dust off your crystal ball and GUESS the horsepower !

btw, KD this sounds exactly like my latest build. 73 318, 68 heads, "340" cam advanced a little, topped up with an LD4B running thru stock manifolds. i haven't decided on the carb yet but it'll be between 600~625. if it makes 280 i'd be tickled pink.

Correct. That's how I was talking about. If you could find one still in good shape and was a good runner, you could put a good intake and carburetor and headers with a good hot distributor with a loose curve and there's your 300HP. Problem is now, they are getting older and harder to find lower...

    17" Magnum 500's

The 17x8 YO magnums have a 4.5” backspace. 245/45/17’s need more like 5” of backspace (minimum!) on a 17x8 to have any real clearance to the fenders in the front. By comparison, a set of 245/45/17’s on a 17x8 with a 4.5” backspace will stick out over a 1/2” further than the 275/35/18’s I run...

only if the heads were at the machine shop for other work. otherwise i'd just run the thin felpro's and ship it.

You plan seem sound you don't want to start your nephew off with too much power and with a decent starter engine he can always add upgrades.

DANGEROUS PRODUCT = Moog Ball Joints

15 years ago moog was still okay. these days not so much. i had client that insisted on moog being used for his small bolt pattern front end rebuild. so i ordered up six of everything. on the upper ball joints four of the six were acceptable, on the lowers two were. with the lower bushings one...

    Vibration over 65mph

Just got in a whole bunch of parts for the car. Trickflow 190 heads for hydraulic roller, Edelbrock air gap, and all gaskets and seals. I ordered a hydraulic roller camshaft kit from Hughes (lifters, cam, timing set, cam keys, etc) and apparently the cam and timing set was on back order. Don’t...

If we did, it would be fitted with a carburetor. I wouldn't go through the trouble of trying to make the EFI system work.

You could hit 300 plus very easily if you got a 5.2 Magnum.

Get compression to 9.5 and an honest 300HP isn't out of touch.....with a better matched camshaft and headers.

I would mill them at least enough to compensate for the thicker Fel Pro head gaskets. The goal would be for the engine to run fine on 87 octane ethanol infused gasoline. An iron headed 318 should be able to handle 8 3/4 to 9 to 1 compression on 87.

Thanks, guys. The kid is 13 now. The goal is to have the car drivable by the time he is ready to get his learner's permit at 15 1/2 years of age. Plenty of time and I'm retired so the only thing holding me back is me. Jaxon wants to be involved in the build. I never had kids so this is...

i think 250~270 is possible and a relatively easy goal to attain with those parts. you'll be down a little power across the board because of the stock logs. rethinking the cam might net you more torque lower down in the range and give better driveability/street manners. newer modern grinds...

    Gen 2 hemi swap

The K frame for the Hemi is unique, due to the different motor mounts that bolt to the block. The elephant ears is probably the easiest way to mount it. I did my swap from 440 to Hemi and only changed K frame in a 71 Cuda and no interference problems. A body is a different animal though.

1971 Duster 340 10" front drum brakes - what other Mopar brake drum hubs will fit?

I've been driving Honda's from 1980 and I felt they had the worst brakes of any car I ever owned. My 80 Civic had solid front rotors and if I stopped hard at 70 MPH the rotors warped. My 90 Accord was a little better but still not that good. My other Honda's also left a lot to be desired in the...

Gonna do any milling for cr ? 250 hp is a pretty easy goal, no matter what it makes should be a decent setup for your nephew. Here's a stock low cr 318 long block makes 282 hp with 4 bbl headers and a xe262h cam. https://www.hotrod.com/articles/mopp-0312-318-long-block-bolt-ons/
