    318 Build? Help!

Last I knew, valves should not clatter within the guides. Literally, they wobble when the springs are removed.

Dust off your crystal ball and GUESS the horsepower !

a 5.9 with a reground cam and the hong kong phooey intake is a hard combo to beat. only problem is that you're almost gar-un-teed to need cam bearings and heads. but if you put together the basics from the start you can have something that's perfectly serviceable and quite mellow with tons...

Holley 1850 fuel transfer tube seals??

Flooding is either a needle and seat issue of a bad float.... Bad brass floats are easy to spot, it'll have gas in it... Nitrophyl check the weight compared to a good float On the needle & seat, unscrew it from the carb, look for debris in the needle & seat, also check the o ring on the , a...

1971 Duster 340 10" front drum brakes - what other Mopar brake drum hubs will fit?

yeah it's possible to go out to 5X4.5 on the 10" hub, there's enough meat. you just need a competent machine shop to do the work. obviously you'll need to drill the drum as well. down the line if you need to replace a drum, you'll need to buy another small bolt and have it drilled because...

Dust off your crystal ball and GUESS the horsepower !

The 5.2 and 5.9s are still commonly found in junkyards out here. Durangos, trucks and vans are still coming in with them. The roller cam would alleviate the likelihood of those cam and lifter failures. I'd have to get one of those Crosswinds 4 barrel intakes. I'd need to do something about the...

Dust off your crystal ball and GUESS the horsepower !

btw, KD this sounds exactly like my latest build. 73 318, 68 heads, "340" cam advanced a little, topped up with an LD4B running thru stock manifolds. i haven't decided on the carb yet but it'll be between 600~625. if it makes 280 i'd be tickled pink.

Dust off your crystal ball and GUESS the horsepower !

Correct. That's how I was talking about. If you could find one still in good shape and was a good runner, you could put a good intake and carburetor and headers with a good hot distributor with a loose curve and there's your 300HP. Problem is now, they are getting older and harder to find lower...

    17" Magnum 500's

The 17x8 YO magnums have a 4.5” backspace. 245/45/17’s need more like 5” of backspace (minimum!) on a 17x8 to have any real clearance to the fenders in the front. By comparison, a set of 245/45/17’s on a 17x8 with a 4.5” backspace will stick out over a 1/2” further than the 275/35/18’s I run...

    516 head question

DANGEROUS PRODUCT = Moog Ball Joints

15 years ago moog was still okay. these days not so much. i had client that insisted on moog being used for his small bolt pattern front end rebuild. so i ordered up six of everything. on the upper ball joints four of the six were acceptable, on the lowers two were. with the lower bushings one...

    Vibration over 65mph

Just got in a whole bunch of parts for the car. Trickflow 190 heads for hydraulic roller, Edelbrock air gap, and all gaskets and seals. I ordered a hydraulic roller camshaft kit from Hughes (lifters, cam, timing set, cam keys, etc) and apparently the cam and timing set was on back order. Don’t...

Get compression to 9.5 and an honest 300HP isn't out of touch.....with a better matched camshaft and headers.

I would mill them at least enough to compensate for the thicker Fel Pro head gaskets. The goal would be for the engine to run fine on 87 octane ethanol infused gasoline. An iron headed 318 should be able to handle 8 3/4 to 9 to 1 compression on 87.

Thanks, guys. The kid is 13 now. The goal is to have the car drivable by the time he is ready to get his learner's permit at 15 1/2 years of age. Plenty of time and I'm retired so the only thing holding me back is me. Jaxon wants to be involved in the build. I never had kids so this is...
