Hi, after I had re-installed my timing cover, I started wondering how the timingchain gets lubrication? There's a shiny new plug installed just above the cam sprocket by the machine shop, is that supposed to be there?
THanks!

Has anyone added a timingchain tensioner when rebuilding a small block (273)? If so, I'm looking for information on what tensioner you used.
My chain has a horrible amount of slack, so will likely need replaced. I've heard the tensioner is a great little upgrade to the timingchain and is...
Timingchain cover, small block, part # 2951698 $60. Water pumps, small block, part # 2863067, and two 2402794. All spin freely $50 each. Shipping is extra. Thanks FABO.
Hi everybody I'm new here so please bear with me. My 69 Dart 340 has a tiny pond on top of my timingchain cover. It looks as though somebody tried to tack a leak with a welding rod and didn't do a very good job so I wipe up the leak and paint comes along with it. I'm not concerned with the...
I was doing some reading a little bit ago on the 318's and it suggested that a "true " double roller timingchain be used. I have to admit that I'm confused here as I've always thought that the double roller timingchain were "true " double rollers. Also it said to use a cam as close to the 340...
...of a coolant leak between the timing cover and the block, otherwise I wouldn't be here. I was curious about the condition of the timingchain. This engine was bought from a Chrysler dealer, it came from an authorized rebuilder in Toronto (Ontario Reman) circa 1986 and I might have 10k miles...
...the block incl: thrust plate + retaining bolts (incl the oil drip bolt); cam bolt, washer + fuel pump eccentric; oil slinger; and '70s timingchain cover. Would be awesome if someone had everything on the list rather than doing it piecemeal but beggars can't be choosers. Looking for good...
I have an LA318 that has a tried timingchain in need of replacing. So now I'm looking for the best setup. I like the idea of the magnum setup with the chain guide, but I also like the like the idea of the double roller setup. But I don't know?
What's the best setup?
 timingchain tensioner works great, any problems are from defective assembly and poor choice of timingchain. Loose chains cause late & erratic timing. If the engine guy says it's not needed it's time for a new guy
Is it possible for these engines to jump timing? Had an older escort that acted like this and it had jumped timing. Of course the escort used a belt where this has a chain.
So I'm installing my new timingchain and gears and the cam sprocket is loose and has play against the cam key so I thought maybe the key was too small I took off my old timingchain gear and it fits snug on the cam and key well as a tiny tiny bit of play but nothing like the new one?
Should I...
Replace it! Timingchain is crucial for performance and mileage! I run that roller master double roller slant six chain it is expensive but tight as ****.

...replacement
And the oil pan gasket
While looking at the very clean I sides of the crank case I noticed what to me looks like a slack timingchain.
The bottom of the oil pan was clean, no sludge or other deposits, or chunks of mystery materials.
I filtered the oil I removed through a paint...
