    Bellhousing alignment

I am not sure of your car and year, but for example: Per the 1970 Plymouth service manual, bellhousing bore runout relative to crankshaft should be within 0.008" total indicator reading. Meaning the bellhousing bore center should be within 0.004" of crankshaft center. The bellhousing face should...

Anyone try the Edelbrock VRS-4250 Carb yet?

I went for two VRS-4150 750 cfm carbs on my STR-12 build. I have not yet put fuel to it. Bagged on the shelf.

I believe the Holley Custom Speed Shop (carburetor restoration) closed their doors in 2023. Sad news when I heard it.

According to their website: "We no longer have a vacuum metallizer or painter. Current inventory of 4000 parts available while they last. I remember them from many moons ago. Hopefully not gone in the business.

    Cylinder #7 down on compression

Absolutely, the spark plug hole entry is done with a fitting with flexible hose which comes with the tester. The test will give you a bunch of information.

    Dodge Dart Lite

Great find!! Congratulations. On that trunk issue, isn't that rear fold down divider just plywood on a hinge? If so, another option would be to just saw your way thru it and replace it later.

    Show me your side exits

Old picture here of my '65 with side exhaust. They were coming off of Hedman fenderwell headers and Flowmaster mufflers. I liked it. I do remember in Virginia back then side exhaust would supposedly not get thru state inspection. That did indeed snag me once.

    Vibration over 65mph

Make sure your leaf spring u-bolts are torqued to spec. Per the Mopar Performance Chassis manual, "Overtightening can cause spring friction, which will produce a "booming" noise inside the car."

65 Valiant small block with Heddman fenderwell headers. Need suggestions on master cylinder upgrade

Yea, same here. I have thought about dual master cylinder with my Hedman 1-7/8 fenderwells ('65 Barracuda). It does look like an issue but to date I have not investigated. Bugs me but my car still stops. :) Mine:

    checking rear end housing straightness

I have a gaging tool for an 8-3/4. Consists of 2 bushings to be clamped into bearing saddles of the carrier along with tubing extending to both ends of the housing. From there use calipers to figure centeredness of the axles relative to housing ends. You can make this stuff easily using a local...

That looks really good Stan. You may need a little more slip on launch to stay in the power band. The McLeod Soft Lok clutch has your name written all over it. :)

Rear end advice for racing with a 4 speed

That is correct but you can make clearance for the shocks and close it up with no loss of strength IMO. I've been there: I ran a 4 speed on the track with some history. I twisted stock 8-3/4" axles, broke a 4.56 489 case setup (ring gear/posi failure), broke a 489 5.13 (ring gear failure)...

Mopars in the Valley Car Show

This one snuck up on me but is close to where I now live. Tomorrow is the 37th annual Mopar event hosted by the Roanoke Valley Mopar Club. I've met very few Mopar people since we moved to southwestern Virginia. I think I will check it out. At the Salem Civic Center in Salem Virginia, 10 a.m. to...

Will I ever get this package??

I learned a little yesterday visiting my local UPS hub. Just because the tracking info says my package landed in Roanoke VA (within 15 miles or so of my house) 5 days ago doesn't mean it was actually here. There are apparently physical scans (the real deal), logical and derived scans (meaning...

Didn't Make It Home From Carlisle

Just curious... How did the initial timing (w/o vacuum advance connected) get set at 30*? It doesn't run at 5*? If it doesn't, then IMO you have your timing light connected to the wrong wire or your balancer has slipped. I'm not sure what you mean by "The initial is 30* and it advances into the...

Didn't Make It Home From Carlisle

Yea, that doesn't sound right to me either. You should be seeing 5 degrees or so at idle with vacuum advance disconnected and plugged. I would leave vacuum advance disconnected, rev to roughly 2600 rpm, you should be seeing 32* BTDC or so, 52* or so with vacuum advance connected.

Thread missing? 8-3/4 housing end as welded for shortened housing...

I believe I was only running high 11s at the time. I was hitting it hard with a 4-speed no slip clutch though. I broke my share of stuff back in those days because of that. Was looking in my notes for that info. In there I noted I was having a bit of difficulty getting axles in too. I didn't...
