    360 runs strange, lifters??

It's about 12 initial but I'm also running MVA, might try switching to PVA and re-tune, see what happens.

    360 runs strange, lifters??

I briefly mentioned it in post #5 but not in the OP. Not sure of the condition of the seats on the new heads but the old ones were sunken badly, one exhaust valve was almost 1/8" up into the head. I'm trying to find the conversation with the FABO member to find more details on them. How can I...

    360 runs strange, lifters??

I'd agree with this but I have doubts that's the problem as I replaced the original heads less than 10k miles ago with rebuilt late-70s castings I bought from a fellow FABO member that had stainless exhaust valves put in. I guess I could still check the stem heights at some point. I'll be...

    360 runs strange, lifters??

It's about time for an oil change, I might dump some Marvel Mystery Oil in it and see what happens. The truck sat without running for 10+ years according to the seller when I bought it, might have some gunk in the lifters that never worked its way out. I have some new valve cover gaskets to...

    360 runs strange, lifters??

That's a good idea, they can be removed through the cylinder head on an LA engine right?

    360 runs strange, lifters??

I've been trying to figure out a weird issue with the 360 in my D200 pickup for years. Basically what happens is on rapid decel or when free-revving it, when the revs fall it sounds and feels like it's not running on a few cylinders for a few seconds. Does it worse when it's cold. I went...

    Reusing 195k lifters?

These days I trust high-mileage OE parts from the 1990s a lot more than brand-new stuff. I don't know how many miles were on the 5.9 Magnum short block when I pulled it from a 2000 Ram 2500 in a junkyard but it had to be at least 150k judging by the condition of the rest of the vehicle. That...

Roadkill and other Motortrend shows are cancelled.

There's a high school kid where I work currently (John Deere factory) who is an apprentice tractor mechanic, he's a huge Roadkill fan and is usually wearing one of their shirts. He drives a pretty cool lifted K5 Blazer and knows his stuff. I don't think a lot of you older guys understand what...

Roadkill and other Motortrend shows are cancelled.

That's the kind of talk when you have a "can't-do" attitude. When people really have the drive to do something they use some ingenuity, figure out ways and accept the risks instead of finding reasons why it's not worth trying. Then in old age they'll go around saying "I wish I had done this...

I didn't watch the fight but apparently on that same day it was announced that the Pentagon failed its 7th audit in a row.

Why are classic 4 door sedans "disliked"?

That's an interesting point, the only 4-door classic Mopars I've driven have been C-bodies which obviously have longer doors. I'm 6'1" and didn't have issues with those but I could see A-bodies being kinda tight.

    318/8 Speed Swap

That's awesome, kinda makes sense though considering the 8HP got a 10+ year jump on the GM/Ford 10-speed and is a proven design used by several makes. The GM/Ford unit is only used by them and has had issues, enough to have a few class-action lawsuits filed against them lol. Allegedly they...

Anyone swap a Tremec T45 in their 67-69 Dart?

After reading this: https://www.cjponyparts.com/resources/t-45-transmission I'm not sure if it would be worth it unless you find a later-model one or one that's already been gone through and update. Ratios are kinda wide for my liking as well, 3.37:1 first is pretty deep. If you can get one...

    318 Build? Help!

Bummer... I'd be leaning towards a 5.2/5.9 Magnum swap in that case though. 5.9L Magnum with a reground cam, 4-bbl intake+carb and headers would make well over 300 HP and it is very possible to find high-mileage Magnums that don't require a rebuild. Stock 5.9L flex plate has external balance...

    318 Build? Help!

3/4-ton pickup truck (heavy), full-time 4x4 and 727 trans, D44/D60 axles, aerodynamics of a refrigerator... lots of parasitics to work against by the time the power gets to the road. Agree 1000% the performance will be far better if the focus is on bottom-end and mid-range torque instead of a...

    318 Build? Help!

What didn't you like about the '73 360? My '72 D200 (3.54 gears and 33" tires) has a mostly-stock 360 and it has plenty of torque although the RPM range is limited, runs out of breath around 4000 RPM. I don't dislike it but then I haven't driven a truck with a 340 or Cummins. To the OP, I...

    Flexplate orientation/Transmission to engine mounting?

My Duster had them originally, been off for at least a decade and haven't had any issues. I believe my D200 has/had them but I may have removed them as well since adding headers. Would be nice to know exactly why those were implemented, from the Chrysler engineers.

    Gear choice

3.21 for sure. If you are indeed swapping to an AX-15 you'll want a taller rear end ratio as the 1st gear is very deep, iirc 3.6x:1 and 5th is not a very tall OD ratio at 0.79:1. @75slant6 has one in his Duster and I think he put 2.94s in his car to make 1st hear not useless.

    Header-to-muffler exhaust recommendations, pics appreciated

I have that book, it's actually what first made me aware of the importance of header secondary tuning and collector extensions. Then Engine Masters did their tests which proved it even more. I could just go and use a tape measure to see how much distance there is from the mufflers-forward but...

    Flexplate orientation/Transmission to engine mounting?

Don't bother with those, they aren't necessary. One of those cases of Mopar over-engineering, like the goofy reverse-thread lug nuts.

    Header-to-muffler exhaust recommendations, pics appreciated

I have a set of Doug's D-453 longtubes I want to put on my Duster and change up the exhaust in front of the mufflers while I'm at it. Car currently has block-hugger shorty headers with homemade 2-1/4" head pipes going into a Pypes 2-1/2" system with X-pipe. I want to get rid of the X-pipe and...

Low gear set from A999 installed into 904. Anyone experience gear noise?

If the pitch of the whine doesn't change depending on what gear it's in I'd lean towards a bearing going out, especially if it's more of a "growling" sound kinda like you describe

    What Gaskets to use

Power loss due to switch to aluminum heads and higher thermal conductivity rate has been debunked. Above about 2200 RPM the combustion cycles too quickly for any appreciable heat transfer to occur into the cylinder head; vast majority of heat going into the head comes from the exhaust valves...

Deciding on replacement intake (318, details in post)

I feel like at your current power level, significant gains could only be had with a "complete package" rebuild, at least in regards to cam/heads/intake. IMO going from cleaned up and milled J heads to unported Trick Flows will give an incremental boost, maybe 30 HP? If it were mine I'd go for...

    Metal in oil

How do you drive the car? What's your standard procedure for warming it up? Does it get driven much at constant speed on the highway or mostly around town? Short or long trips? And do you generally drive it hard winding it out with heavy throttle (after warmed up of course) or more...

    Headers vs 340 manifolds

I put long tube Hedmans on the 360 in my D200, the stock manifolds were cracked to hell and leaked really bad (noisy). I wanted to see if it would make a difference and they were affordable. Already had true dual exhaust. Sure enough, throttle response improved and needed less throttle for...

    Scored a new ride yesterday!

Nice score, I'm slowly becoming more accepting of them as the fan base is pretty obnoxious but that goes for a lot of cars these days. I'd like them more if they got better gas mileage, can't understand how my 4000-lb Buick with supercharged 3.8L V6 only gets a few less MPGs on the highway than...

Need recommendation for a Carb for better MPG!

Because in reality you can actually have both, if you know what you're doing. The OP's 5-speed overdrive trans is a huge factor in being able to do that. Optimize WOT mixture for max power, tune cruise mixture to be at least stoich or slightly leaner, run vacuum advance and initial timing +...

440 Heads - Angled Spark Plugs?

Those heads do indeed have angled plugs, it's just not as noticeable of an angle as other models, for example SBM heads... Compare closely side-by-side with 440Source Stealth heads, there is a slight angle with the Trick Flows.

Need recommendation for a Carb for better MPG!

Not much more mileage to be gained from a carb swap IMO. You might be able to squeeze some more with tuning, lean out the cruise mixture as much as possible and make use of vacuum advance. What kind of cam and compression ratio does your 340 have, and what's the rear-end gearing?
