What kind of fuel do you use ? The reason I ask is that buildup on the back side of valves can cause the same thing . It will ever so slightly cause the valve to leak . It will eventually burn a valve if left long enough . Tommy

Looks like the gasket was leaking pretty good between #6-#8 cylinder,,,,look closely . That’s a lot of pressure leakage for an engine with 5000 miles on it . Tommy

I just checked on Rockauto,,,they have an all metal cam sprocket for $6.14 . It’s a Cloyes gear for a factory chain on Slant 6 . Part # S314T Tommy

I’m guessing that most of the markings were milled off some time ago . But the diameter and compression distance will tell you most of what you need to know . Those markings inside came from the forging die,,,,it tells you what forging blanks they were . Judging from the hole for the fire pocket...
