    Overheating rear end

Still working on this, so bizarre to be having a difficult problem with such a simplistic system. I have swapped drums from side to side, no change Checked the drums, they are well within spec and do not appear warped. Confirmed it is a brake issue, removed the rear brake hose and capped it off...

    Overheating rear end

Oh yes, sorry, I did skip over the backing plate. I swapped in the 9" ones when I swapped the shafts. Stock 13" rims, 34 psi. No alignment. No power brakes, stock single pot MC. No unusual noises, no rubbing of any parts inside the drums. Shafts and bearings slid easily into place when...

    Overheating rear end

Hey all, I have what I think is an odd problem. Back in '92 I swapped in a 7.25 axle from a '66 V8 Valiant into my slant six '63 Valiant. It turned out the hubs on both sides were bent, not real bad, but if you put it up on jacks and ran it you could see noticeable run out. In the years since...

How to build your own Solid-State Instrument Voltage Regulator (IVR) for yourself (or build them...

I got mine installed last week on the '63 Valiant. This gauge was pretty easy to work on, I just Dremmeled off the back of one rivet then rotated the gauge plate out of the way, deactivated the ivr, swung the plate back in place and put a drop of super glue on the back were the rivet hole was...

    Drip Rail Sealant?

What is that that's used in these? Or what's good to use in them. My car has baked in the California sun for so long that this stuff is cracked and pealing like old painters caulk. TIA!

    1963 Valiant Instrument Panel Questions

Handful of questions on this system if anyone knows: FSM says the gauges run off of 5v. I know in the 65+ the clusters have a voltage regulator, but where does the 63/64 get the 5v from? The schematic looks like it's just feeding ignition 12v to the cluster. I have two clusters from 64s and...

Parking Brake Strut Anti Rattle Spring for 9' Drums

Anyone know of a source for them? All I've found were the ones for 10" It's the one spring that the spring kits don't some with. I found a part number here in a search and bought them, but they too were for the 10", not the 9' indicated. I was going to reference the number here to eliminate it...

    Fuse Box Repair?

Hey all, the fuse block in the '63 Valiant is toast. The contacts for the fuses are rusted out, beyond cleaning. One tab is broken off and another is about to go. I'm leaning towards cutting the box out and installing something more modern, but before I do I wanted to see if anyone has a repair...

    Pressing Piston Wrist Pins

I guess to be clearer would be if I asked just what it is that a machine shop is doing that cannot be done at home? I do machine work at home, I have lathes and a Bridgeport, there's no magic done in machine shops, it's simply careful and precision work. The UTG vid does mention a forge for...

    Pressing Piston Wrist Pins

Really, what's the point in working on stuff at all if we can just pay other people to do it for us. Seriously?

    Safe to run and drive?

If you don't have the ability to do a repair it'll probably be just fine. If you can though, cut the ear off the dead engine, do a matching cut on the new engine and weld the ear on. Easy repair if you have access to the tools.

    Pressing Piston Wrist Pins

Has anyone come up with a feasible way to do this at home? Or is it strictly machine shop time? TIA
