    Best Gearing for 8 3/4 Behind 1970 Duster 318

Hello, Recently purchased a sharp driver quality 1970 plymouth duster. Car has 318 with Edelbrock Intake and Holley 4 Barrel Carb paired with 3 speed 904 trans and 8 3/4 rear end with non-posi 2.76 gears. Rear tires are 255/60/15 and front tires are 215/70/15. I am planning to convert the...

    '65 Valiant LS Swap Update

Thanks! I made a post that goes more in depth a while back, it's a 6.0 LQ9 out of an '04 Escalade. I put an LS9 cam in it, did some valve train upgrades, and ported the oil pump. I also gave it an ls6 intake- but that was more for hood clearance than anything lol. I don't have power steering or...

273 swap to 318/ build, cost, potential, daily driver

Sounds like you first need to decide what you want. What do you need to get your 273 done? The cam I offered to sell you is as close as we could get to a stock Commando 4 barrel cam. It would work for a 2 barrel or 4 barrel carb. A used 273 or 318 crank should not cost much. Done, nothing...

    Nick's Garage dyno's a 318 Stroker.

Has anyone mentioned the total cost of the build ? 318 fans seem to like the fact that they are "cheap" . Lets say you start with a stock 72 LA 318 and want to build this build what does it take in parts and machine work? Im thinking it isnt cheap unless you have your grandfathers mopar...

    New to Me 1968

    318 and 340 have same stroke at 3.31” A 318 has a 3.91” bore, and 340 has a 4.04” bore. That is a difference of 0.130”. You can’t bore a 318 that far. A “30 over” 318 is only 323ci. A popular combo is the 0.030” over 318 with a 4” crank. That is 390ci. Even better is a 0.030” 340 block...

    318 Build? Help!

well you didn't poop in my cherrios, but the machine shop just did. my blocks junk. cracked from the main bearing to the #4 cam bearing and all the way up to the lifter galley. so i guess I am going to reevaluate my combo and see what block I can find to fit my balanced rotating...

    318 Build? Help!

Well, it's just desktop dyno 5, I believe and I know it's within 8-12% accuracy. I think it will make that much because it's going to spin to 7000+, and surprisingly the speedmasters flow exceptionally well for what they are. But pertaining to this thread; even if it does not make the...

    318 stroker using Scat crank

I have used that scat crank in a 340 build, but would not do it again because of the lighter counterweights dictated my piston choices. Forged pistons would have required heavy metal to balance. This may be a moot point with the smaller 318 stock cast type pistons

Best cam for the street both power & sound

Typical for the 318 hater who thinks his **** is the best and only way to build a streetee engine. After all being 71 means you know everything.

    Mild 383 build

Since he isn't dealing with an A body, he can always just do a 440 and still change the spark plugs. Would that be easier for a starting point? It's much like the 318/360 argument for the small block guys. I love the 318 and the 383, buuuuttttt... Redheads with big tits are always the...

Stop in for a cup of coffee

Weeeeeellllll.... little update while I have time; My super cheap, parts pile 318 I was building was going as planned. The rotating assembly comprised of parts from 3 different engines balanced within half a gram with only 1.63 grams removed. (awesome!) The block honed great! Bearing...

    86 Black Roller 318, swap/interchange into 72 318

Care to share why? 86 has yes a roller cam, hyd lifters, 73 340 crank. Would prefer to sell 86 block. 340 internals 318 Blue 72 block would be me goal atm. Maybe get a solid roller comversion. Wanna build a reliable Blue 72. "YOUR MY BOY BLUE!"

    5.2/5.9 H.P build guesstimate

Richard gets 350 hp out of a stock 5.9l longblock with 4bbl headers and a 212 cam, I would say the 5.2l would get similar. The 380hp crate engine gets 400 hp with 230 cam so your cam is about in between so I'd say should maybe get the 375 hp. The 5.2l is gonna need about 500-600 more rpm and...

    Aluminum Heads

For what speedmaster and the like are charging these days I wouldn't even think about cast iron for an engine I'm planning on running for a build I'm keeping. The out of the box heads out there aren't going to be overkill on any 318. Even the best heads out there would work very well on a...

273 swap to 318/ build, cost, potential, daily driver

Just found this. Any engine that does not run is a core to me. If you can get any kind of compression test on any core, the better. A trip to machine shop costs $ but there you can find the answers! Everything costys $$$! You could make that trip for that truck., keep what you want...

What do you think about this 318 guys.

What's with these strawman 318 arguments, $12,000 318's, people wanting 10-11s 318's where? Most I see is people want to copy ish of the 400 hp build and generally just add a mild cam and 4bbl. And no one is saying a 318 is better than 340/360 etc.. just it's a capable engine if one should...

Deciding on replacement intake (318, details in post)

stroker kit is the best VFM, but some magnum heads are probably the eaiser route to take.... some ported magnum heads with roller rockers on that bottom end with that cam and an appropriate intake and carb would make about 375. but it would be all uptown, that kind of set up doesn't start to...

Deciding on replacement intake (318, details in post)

360? Stop that :poke::D id really like to wring as much as I can from the stoutest 318 I can build - peaky is fine. It’s a fun car, I have sensible daily drivers. Pistons, machine work, rebuilding heads…I’m good with that

    318 value

Plenty of 340s still around. I have one waiting in the wings for a build. You just have to be willing to pay. If you're really super budget, get a 318 magnum. VERY common and very cheap. If you can afford a couple hundred more, a 360 magnum can be had. I just did exactly this and purchased a...

Is building a stroked 318 better than a stroked 340/360?

He did 3 that I know of one with magnum heads one with ported 302 heads and one with older eq's then he ported the eq's for 425 hp. Think the cams were comp 280, xe268h, xe285h on 10 ish to 1.

    Nicks Garage 383 build

273/318/383 threads generally get more views, it's pretty straightforward what to do with, 340/360/440 etc...most agree on what to do. Unlike 273/318/383 where a good chunk of peeps will say don't bother, than you got the velocity police saying you can build them but not very much etc.. There's...

    318 value

Here it is but it's not what your looking to build, it's not a mild engine. Point was a lot things people say kills low end torque doesn't always. https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/0901phr-mopar-318-magnum-engine/

Making power out of the 318

Another reason to build a 318 is because it fits in the rules. Or fits into the rules and cost-benefit better than other options - like a 305. @CPDave has covered that in his posts about the SVRA legal ZebraDart. That's 360 HP at the wheels and plenty of torque to come off the corners, and most...

    318 Build? Help!

410 lbs-ft ain't impossible it's 1.29 lbs-ft per cid which is kind of on the high side for that level of a build 370-390 lbs-ft is a more likely number (1.16-1.23 tq:cid). Main problem I see with that desktop dyno prediction is what's happing after 4500 rpms highly doubt gonna carry the...

    New shop for projects

The picture of the truck is how I purchased it from Tommy’s Toy Box. The truck is from Oregon and is in great shape. It has its original drivetrain. The 318 is tired so I am in the process of wrapping up a 340 build that is going to be the first transplant performed in the new shop. I am...
