    If you want to spend the money, you can make anything "perform". When I bought my 340 cuda in '69, did I want a 318 and have to build it or did I want a 340 that was already factory built with all of the suspension parts included? Doesn't make you a "cultist", it's common sense.

    Why dont you just build 'em then and tell everyone how it went? I could tell ya about how mine went but you dont wanna hear it. The UTG Vizard build fallout leaves a vacuum for the "Im broke and building a 318 race motor " hype Tony started. Uncle Tony will never build it.

    It sounds like you could build it as an LA but as cheap as LA 318's are, why bother. You can find LA Teens for $100 or less. Even better yet would be a Magnum with a roller cam. Just sayin.

    Build a 360. Even with low compression it will be miles ahead of a 318. Then just swap it in when you’re ready. A B&M flex plate and a modified drivers Side engine bracket and your done. All your other upgrades will work better with it. Kim

    Out of those 3 the xe268. I went with the smaller xe256 on my Jolopy 360 with 318 heads. It sounds decent runs decent, out of steam by 5k rpm but wasn’t build for rpm anyway it was a nice cruiser motor.

    If you are serious about making power like a late model engine you need to disabuse yourself of the notion that a Chrysler head with standard rockers is worth spending a nickel on. If you want to build a 500 hp 318 with a small cam you use W2 heads or better. Anything else is just expensive...

    How did putting trick flows and a roller cam (~size?) work on the 318? I ask, because I've got a mechanically sound 318 and a core 360 in the shop corner. What kind of rpm do you spin the stock bottom end up to?
