    Over here in Aus there a lots and lots of 318/390 strokers, and lots of guys build 318s as 340s are virtually non-existant and 360 cores are drug money. Hell, even 318 cores have adopted post covid pricing - Around $1500aud (1000 USD) for a clapped out rebuilder!

    A 500Hp 440 is currently cheaper to build than a 400HP 318. I just finished another and the 440 was $2000 cheaper. Start with a 360 or 440 if you can.

    You mentioned that the 318 would need lots of machine work, what extra machine work would it need over the 340/360's? None. As most guys on here do their own porting. As far as getting 1 horsepower per cubic inch isn't difficult even for the 318.

    the Moho 440 is bretty much ready... it has a cam , intake and a bunch of new parts... i should get the heads from the machine shop end of this week. definitly a cool motor ...If i sell this engine i can probably fund the whole DUSTER build incl the engine (if i use the 318 )
