Found my dads original 1971 duster!

Ya. It’s just so pathetic at this point. The spineless bastard knows that I live 26 hours away from him. He told me in the beginning that he “loves” long distance builds. I’ve learned why….the hard way

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

Hey guys. Well you won’t believe this. BRIAN TRASK has sunk to a new low. I’m hoping everyone on here can spread the word for me on this So remember how I said that I had new door panels and rear panels coming from PG classics? This was arranged before I picked the car up. Brian called PG and...

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

You’re definitely right. Lots of people have said on here that I’d learn a lot about the car etc by having to do things myself….and it has 100% been correct! Today I took the seats out and straightened the crooked coffin console and installed the carpet around it. I also installed the plastic...

Thanks! Appreciate the reply. I’ve tried melting the existing solder to see if it will plug the hole. I’ll keep you posted

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

Thanks, Noel. Yep, just a pinhole. I just tried heating it up with a soldering iron. Not sure how well it got down into the hole. Here’s a better pic of the hole. If it doesn’t hold, il try cleaning the areas up and adding flux, then a re solder. Can’t hurt

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

Hey guys. Quick question. I got home from a drive and noticed a very slight pinhole leak on the top of rad where a previous repair was done. I’ll include a picture. Would regular plumbing solder work to repair it? I’ve soldered many household plumbing fixtures and even complete houses when I...

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

Thanks! Ya, it sure does pop! I am trying to find white inner door handles and plastic brackets. Doesn’t look like anyone makes them. I’ll likely have to order black ones and paint them. Mine are cracked and damaged

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

Thanks a million! My favourite part about the car that I remember from when I was a kid, was the colour. I always thought that it looked like a car out of a cartoon! Lol. I’m surprised by how many people comment on it when I have it out for a drive, or take it to a cruise night….most of those...

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

Forgot to mention. The door panels are very wavy. It’s like their glue didn’t stick the vinyl down properly. I called PG classics and they are sending replacements as soon as their new stock arrives. They don’t want the old ones back either. So I’ll likely pull them apart and try re gluing them...

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

Oh and also. Does anyone know if you can buy pre formed carpet for around my coffin console? I can’t find any info online. I velcroed my door panels etc on for now until I can figure out how to make my glass work. I’m tired of looking at it unfinished. lol. Also, I painted my seat backs and...

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

Hey guys. So update: I bought a digital timing gun. I’ve set it to 14 initial timing and set the idle to around 720 or so. It’s running like a watch! I have an appointment booked for a shop to set up my carb and optimize everything hopefully. But even setting the timing myself helped it a lot...

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

I learned how to do it today. But the snap on light we used is an older one, with no display on it. We set it using the 10 before and 10 after scale that is stamped onto the pulley type thing. The reason don’t know the exactly number is because the scale only goes up to 10 and you can’t see the...

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

Should have said “starts and runs like a champ”. Even after getting warm, shutting off and re starting. Dont even need to touch the gas pedal. We think the timing is now somewhere around 12-15. I’ll be taking it in to a performance shop in the next few weeks to have the carb tuned and the...

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

Hey. Thanks. They are just 2 speed. Noel stopped by today. Had a great day. Got new oil pressure sensor installed (now working), installed new rad, fan and shroud….amd set the timing. Started and runs like a champ! He also had a look at the wiper setup and thinks we just have to flip the...

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

Hey guys. Question. I bought an aftermarket 727 transmission dipstick. It’s very hard to read. It’s like a bluish/anodized, shiny colour. Very poor design. Im also not convinced or confident that the scale markings are accurate. Anybody near me have one that I could buy, borrow or look at? My...

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

Well I finally got the wiper arms off, woth the help of Noel. It’s as I suspected. Something has been done wrong. When I turn the. Wipers on and off, they come to rest in the up position….which obviously means that as soon as they are turned on, they go downwards towards the hood. Unbelievable...

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

Thanks. Ya, mine have a different tab than that. You push it out with a flat screwdriver. I push it while prying and it literallg doesn’t budge. I’ll try to take a decent picture

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

Still can’t get them. I feel like I will dent the body metal if I pry any harder. So weird. They went on so easily. Still not sure why the shafts would have been in the wrong position. I’ve turned the wipers on and off several times before putting the arms on, to see if everything worked…so...

Found my dads original 1971 duster!

Thanks everyone. The guy who checked and set it is very knowledgeable. He used to build cars at national moparts. I do recall him saying that we may advance it later once I’d put some miles on the car. I’ll see what he says. I appreciate everyone’s input
