    Nick's Garage dyno's a 318 Stroker.

There will always be those that discount the 318. It just didn't have the glory of the 340 because it didn't receive the cams, 4bbl, good manifolds... it was a grocery-getter. But for what the 318 will do, it's worth it. You can get cheap power from a 318. Try buying anything 340 cheaply. :D

Anyone Run a Crane Z-268-2 Cam in their 318?

I'm freshening up a 1974 low comp 318 with a quick hone, new plasma moly rings and new bearings. I done some home bowl porting & port matched the 675 heads with larger 1.88 / 1.60 valves. SCR will be around 8.5:1 with Mr Gasket 1121G (0.028") head gaskets. Using a port matched Performer intake...

    Eric's cam challenge

I'm trying to figure out how that would work ? Guessing along with flow, csa and velocity also wouldn't be factored. If say you took a 340 with 318 heads vs X heads vs Trick Flows and ran the same/similar cams and cr with appropriate intake and exhaust systems. Could see making similar hp per...

road car cam for my 318

so you're saying no 3/4 race cams then? a stock 360 2bbl would probably work great for your application, 410/412 252/256 (for the earlier 71~74 and then 410 252 single pattern after). the melling 23103 specs out at 410/412 with 198/199 @ 50, though their advertised shows 278/282-- which i...

    Another 318 set up

honestly, if you want a 318, try find a running 318 magnum. clean up the heads with a little bowl porting & 5 angle vj, trim the guides a skoash, get hughes #1110 springs, thin head gasket, rering, get the roller cam reground by bullet cams using their HR259/316 or HR259/326 lobes on the...

    Nicks Garage 383 build

If you watch the Engine Master competition where the do odd ball engines like the 318 Poly, Nail head, old Cadillac, Chev 307 etc... Making 500 + or whatever hp takes a similar recipe just there's little to no off the shelf part for some of those engine, if you put the right heads and cam, cr...

72 was the last year for the forged teen crank. Car engines anyway.

    very mild 360 build.

    K. Thanks. I was just wondering. I know that comp cams and lunati show the advertised duration, it's no big deal I was just curious

Stop in for a cup of coffee

They were until they switched to roller cams after the 78 model year, at least the trucks I know for a fact were. Everything else switched to cast cranks in 73. That’s why it used to be a popular thing to swap in a 318 crank when rebuilding a 72/73 340 since it was a direct swap.
  12. 273

IM surprised by Richard Holdeners 360 Magnum camshaft swap.......

No 318 ever came with a 340 cam and very few 360 did, most 4bbl 360 had 2bbl cams.

Making power out of the 318

that would entail you actually, you know, getting a car. which, no worries about you losing this little side bet because you aren't gonna have a car by then anyway.

Hughes HUG1110P valve springs- anyone use them?

While their springs are generally a good idea, they want to sell you their whole valve train as they say it matches, well I dont like their lifters. They make a big deal about spring wire lock rings failing and use stamped lock rings which they say are bulletproof. Well show me the data where...

Budget 360 build in heavy car- Which cam?

With what you're using it for and if you prefer a Howards grind, i'd prefer this one. Hydraulic Flat Tappet Camshaft; 1964 - 2003 Chrysler 273, 340, 360, 318 1800 to 5600 Howards Cams 711651-12 | Howards Cams Not much gear and lowish compression leads me to go easy on the intake duration. IM surprised by Richard Holdeners 360 Magnum camshaft swap.......

Here are the numbers I got from having a 2000 Ram 5.9 cam run through the Cam Doctor at Bullet Cams: Duration @ 0.050: I/E 189*/194* Lobe separation angle: 111* Lift @ cam: I/E 0.273"/0.278" Valve lift w/ 1.6 rockers: I/E 0.437”/0.445”

360 head porting for big power (500HP ?)

Nice reply TVT59! We were always told back in the day you had to have a 440 to run a ten. Never saw any Euro Mopars running 10's with a smallblock. Most of the 340 diehards ran mid 11's and that seemed the 'LIMIT' for them. So we all bought ex Jensen Interceptor 440's as they was common and...

IM surprised by Richard Holdeners 360 Magnum camshaft swap.......

The 268/.485 spec cams have been used for all applications for years. I put one in my 454 Chevy powered tool truck years ago. In an engine that big you couldn't even tell it was bigger than stock specs. If you put that cam in a 360 it's a RV cam. You put it in a 318 and it's a hot street cam...

318 head porting for the average joe

It's not about staying where your/I'm at, I don't know if you notice but most asking for build advice especially for 318 are generally novist and Super Stock, F.A.S.T, Pro Stock, Sprint Car, Nascar info and mods might be a little above their pay grade while they're trying to figure out which RV...

    LSA Question

I've ran all 3 in 318's. Yes, they'll make a difference, but, neither of those offer any more off idle stomp than the 318 2bbl cam, results are seen once you get it going. I've had 318's that took some getting used to for a new driver because they would lay rubber at the tap of the gas, and...

    318 value

And stop the excuses. It like Ferris Buller. My sister's, cousins, friend, knows a guy who's friend saw a car at 31 Flavors I am going look at. Get a car 1st. Quit worrying about cams, intake, exhaust, etc. You going to start a thread on if nitrogen in tires is better with a 318 next?
  26. B

    Maybe I've learned a good lesson . . .

This is the TWO problems I see: [1] You have a heavy car with a small-ish engine. [2] Take the 318, rated at 230 hp. And you mess around with cams, heads & get a 10% increase in hp. That is 23 hp. If you started with a 440 & did the same, you get 37 hp more. If you had a light car like a Dart...

    CAM HELP NEEDED!

Pretty sure Howards grinds the cams for Hughes engines. If you have a search around on the Howards cams website they have a pdf with all their lobe profiles listed on it, there are some interesting lobes there. Anyone Run a Crane Z-268-2 Cam in their 318?

I have a similar 318 build with 8.7-1 compression, 2.02 J heads, and I used the Comp Cams XE268 that has similar specs to yours. I installed it 4 degrees advanced and it has excellent low end performance. Out of steam by 5500 but that’s ok. Just make sure the valve springs are spec’d to the cam...
