    Cheap 318 performance mods.

At toolman - The rant is in fun… but honest And what was my reply to that and the subsequent reply to when someone mentioned about the crack in the head? So now we’re on Rinse & Repeat? I like that idea. I did the same-ish, when my daughter wrecked her ‘00 Durango. Nabbed that 5.9 right fast.

    Cheap 318 performance mods.

In my experience nothing "performance" Is ever cheap. Its a never ending rabbit (money) hole. I started off similar to you was going to take an 80s 318 and clean it up regasket it add a small cam a 4 bbl intake headers etc. Well I pulled the heads to find that it needed to be overbored pulled...

    Camshaft for 273

A 273 with any cam at the 340 Resto level or lower will be very responsive from just off idle to 5600 RPM. With the 4 speed stick, you will never be traveling at 850 RPM anytime in normal driving or you will pound the rod bearings out lugging it. Maybe 850 RPM with an Auto and 1800 RPM Stall...

Steve Dulcich on building a budget 318

This is about as far as you can go--cam/compression wise with a 318 and still have reasonable power and driveability. J.Rob P.S. Forgot to add--IMO 318 Wolf in Sheep's Clothing

Oil line plug/ low oil pressure on cold starts

Stock 318 with high rpm lifters. Gotta ask what is going on? If this 318 has been worked, then I don't know if those lifters are needed but as far ZDDP, I'd want a minimum of 800 ppm for stock cam, and maybe a bit higher, more like 1200 ppm if the valve spring pressures are high for a more...

    1988 318 engine

if it's not making noise and no smoke, i would check compression to see how things are doing and i would 100% change the timing chain with that many miles. It all comes down to how well it was taken care of. Then normal maintenance **** like plugs/oil and all that.. That 318 might also have...

Deciding on replacement intake (318, details in post)

who told you a stroker won't rev? at 3.95" bore and 4" stroke it's pretty much 'square' after all. revs are down to cam, heads, induction and exhaust as you know. the limiting factor with a higher hp/revving small block mopar is heads not stroke. the reason some say strokers won't rev is they...

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

No that would be his recommended lsa, for street and or race. Say you like comps xe256h cam on 110 for your engine, to DV that choice basically you'd keep the same basic overlap and cut the cam on 105 lsa with that overlap and that would give you your new duration, probably something like a 250...

Best cam for the street both power & sound

i collected a lot of money off of the unsuspecting with a 318 that just "had headers and a 4bbl" and looked to be the brother from another mother to that motor, right down to the parts store special chrome air cleaner. agree to the day two action. throw mellow little cam and intake at it, snap...

    318 with a new 4” crankshaft.

I've never seen any KB hyper pistons for a 318 bore/4" stroke. if you get an '85-up 318 or 318 magnum block you can run stock roller lifters on a hydraulic roller cam.....doing a 4" stroker, other than the "number" (392), there's no advantage to doing that over starting with an '89-up 360 or...

    2 barrel to 4 barrel

10 hp. 1978 NHRA specs 318, small heads, small cam, and same pistons 140 hp for 2 barrel, 150 hp for TQ.

D4B DC mods like the LD340 DC mods?

I'd go 500 to 650 with an AVS2 or if you can find a good 750 TQ. 800 cfm is a little crazy on a 273. You have a 630 cfm 69 AVS right? Should work great on that manifold. The TQ works because it has small primaries and an adjustable secondary air valve.

    Stroke a 318

Depending on top end, especially heads and cam. If you can get the small bore/long stroke to displace enough fuel and air over time (CFMs) the engine will rev, just a bigger bore shorter is more suited to higher rpms.

    La318 cylinder head question

You can put regular 318 heads on it, just make sure the Springs are right for the cam if it's not stock. As for the stuck valve in the 360 heads if it didn't hit the Piston it should be okay but if it did it's bent. You'll want to clean that guide out and put a new valve in it and either touch...

D4B DC mods like the LD340 DC mods?

I replaced the worn out stock carb on my 273 with a 600 AFB. It worked great right out of the box with no tweaking. Just idle speed and mixture adjustments.

how does a 318 engine run if timing is off ?

Have been chancing my tail on my 318 engine not running correctly. Had a well known Mopar engine rebuilder[Wayne Hyrowick] rebuild my engine ,Keith Black #167 pistons, .30 over , Hastings Piston rings, 30 over, Comp Cam 20-223-3 and matching springs, lifters, alum. intake, 4 barrel Holley carb...

What cam to use in a 318

I think I am going to go with Oregon cams, we discussed a few different options including re-grinding my vintage 318 cam that is good shape and made of better material. I like the idea of something not mass produced from who knows where.

    Disappointing dyno results

I would put that cam in the garbage can and make myself happy. If I went through the trouble of building a 318, it would get at least a 340 cam.

    Isn't this cam kinda big for a 318 with a 9.2:1 CR? 224* / 230* duration @ 0.050"? Just asking

300 HP out of a 318, is it possible with bolt ons?

wait a minute..."Bolt ons" He has an intake, a 600 cfm carb, mild cam and headers. might not make 300 hp with a 318?
  29. D

    LSA Question

318 cams are wanting a bit. A 360 cam is likely going to perk it up a bit and still keep a smooth idle. A 340 cam may introduce a bit of lope to the idle. This is really where the tune comes into play.
