That is advertised duration. If you look up the cam it’s 216/216 @ 0.050” lift.

Then as a 318 owner myself.. i will say... go on market place and find a 360.... you will have much more torque and power for much less money.. on a good day you can find one for $300ish.. put in a cam and intake and you will probably be in the same range as the 318 with heads/cam/intake...

very good numbers for that build , best I ever did with my 72 318 back in 74 was a 14.8 1/4 mile which was respectable . all it had was cut heads 340 cam headers and a therrmoquad and holley street dominator intake 3:55 gears and crap G78 polyglass tires

It just will not work! Call any cam mfg. and ask them. He would be much better off just using a stock 318 cam. I'll bet he could get one on here for free + shipping. You are giving the man the wrong info.

If your short of 400 hp doubt it will be by much, if you look a the basic 318 400 hp recipe it's 10:1, airgap, magnum heads or something on par and a 230° ish cam, your short on cr but are porting the heads.

Just leave the stock cam in it. That's all you have chosen here. ^^^^^

There isn't a 1 formula fit's all Hemi builds or any other type of engine. 230 cam (which ain't crazy big) and magnum heads equal 400 hp, I imagine with trick flows you still could hit 400 hp with less cam, which way is generally more streetable ? More cam less head flow or vice versa ?

I'm not sure what heads/Cam you have, but I would think a Virgin 360 or 5.9l could be easily found vs. A 318. I'm not much of a junkyard crawler, given my career choice, but I wouldn't give up "free" cubes for anything. Especially when a recently running 5.9 could be found for what someone is...

*barely* equals 400hp and a 230 cam in a 318 is what i'd consider nearing the ragged edge of street manners, especially if equipped with a single plane and big carb. as to the TF & cam question, i'm not gonna open that theoretical box of pandora.

If you are serious about making power like a late model engine you need to disabuse yourself of the notion that a Chrysler head with standard rockers is worth spending a nickel on. If you want to build a 500 hp 318 with a small cam you use W2 heads or better. Anything else is just expensive...

"By the numbers" the comp XE 256 almost looks like the "perfect" cam for a 318 that otherwise stock except for a 4 barrel and dual exhaust.

Drove to Lecanto about 4 yr ago & bought a 318 roller cam engine w/ OD trans out of '90 van from a guy who had a Crosley drag car. Live in a neat wooded neighborhood.
