please get some header advice 67 dart gt

I bought Dougs (not ceramic coated) for 5 bills and some change. I need me a handful of some of them "1000 dollar A-bodies" :D

    Cheap 318 performance mods.

I tend to agree with 318willrun, weiand action plus or edelbrock performer manifold ( the weiand is probably the better intake but not much between them). Vac sec carb around 600cfm (holley or carter/edelbrock - whatever you are most familiar with for tuning purposes), headers and dual exhaust...

1971 Swinger 318, conversion to a 6cyl/special motor mounts needed

318 had 300k on it and was getting tired! And yes, I had a decent 6 laying around, and had just acquired an AT that I could rebuild and use. Selling the V8 and AT out of the car supplied enough $$ to cover related switch costs, plus some extra for whatever. Basically I just like the simplicity...

road car cam for my 318

For the OP, the Summit K-6900 RustyRatRodr recommended is what I've been running in my 318 for several years now. I've also got a 600 Eddy on a Performer intake, duals off stock '74 manifolds, stock 904, and 2.76 gears with 27" tall tires for the time being. I've also got a decent ignition...

How would you rebuild this 318?

Correct. But how far does he want to go and how much money does he want to spend on a 318? Unless he's going to add a roller cam, some exotic heads, turbo or blower, he's not going to make a huge difference from what he has now. That's why I recommended sticking with what he has.

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

Ah, I see now. Thank you. I did some math for a low compression 8.6: 1 or so 318 with stock 1.78in valves and would need an LSA of 105 degrees. I'm assuming this is for a ballpark max performance cam and not a normal street use engine that needs high vacuum, or at least for some cases.

My 273 turned out to be a 318...what did I buy?

It has the 67' 273 valve covers, so someone tried to make it look like a 273. First thing I would do before driving it is, change the thermostat housing. Those chrome ones always leak.

Poll for Minimum Torque for a performance street Machine?

Is that not what I said in post #60 ? I knew the were the same torque numbers just at different rpm. Which is why, like I always say; Back in the day, the 340 was never known for being torquey, whereas the hi-compression 318 was always known to be particularly torquey for it's size. However...

    Sixpack on a 318 engine ?

Yes! Do it. Send it done. Absolutely go for it. Cam size determines RPM range that works in concert with your converter, gear ratio, tire size and cars weight to achieve the intended goal.

273 swap to 318/ build, cost, potential, daily driver

The Magnum engines are better tech, are low cost and easy to obtain. The 360 is preferred because its bigger. The bores of either 318 or 360 Magnum most of the time are very healthy due to coming from a fuel injected engine- no flooding and washing down of cylinders like an LA engine with a...

    Pinging on acceleration.

Okay, you have the old style toilet bowl BBD. That is intended for a 273, or 318. So it should have plenty of fuel. They run good on a slant. They are completely different on the internals that the newer BBD's. They are "air metered" don't ask me what that means. The metering rods are tiny...

    very mild 360 build.

Stock 360-2bbl melling cam is spd25. I think the 340 cam is spd22. I've used a couple of those 25s before in 318s, noticeable win power, idles like stock 318 cam. Exactly the same thing as the comp 252 minus 0.015" lift. Duration and overlap are dead nuts the same as the comp at a cheaper price...

    318 cam

I know there are scads of "318 cam" threads here. The op needs to read up on the volumes of information already written and compiled here. BTW, there are Melling and Sealed Power cams available for mild small block applications...

    Roller cam - Magnum

hang on... a 318 that ran as good as a 360? This can't be soo..... i am told they are boat anchors :)

    Another 318 set up

honestly, if you want a 318, try find a running 318 magnum. clean up the heads with a little bowl porting & 5 angle vj, trim the guides a skoash, get hughes #1110 springs, thin head gasket, rering, get the roller cam reground by bullet cams using their HR259/316 or HR259/326 lobes on the...

    920 heads - What Cam?

Ok you don't like the 340 cam which is fine there's a ton of options out there, What about a comp cam xe250h with a 51* IVC or maybe grind stock one similar on a 108 if possible? Does anyone even make a stock spec 340 cam anymore?

Making power out of the 318

I don’t bother recommending cams. For a long time now. It’s not the pissing matches that idk me but it’s ether splitting of hairs on similar cam specs or its wildly different and sometimes absurd cam recommendations. Now, if asked, directly or via a thread, it’s just a general recommendation...

    273/ 2 barrel camshaft options

Just so you know; a 318 is just the equivalent of a big-bore 318. So, anything off a 318 , except the piston assemblies, will swap over. Except the 65 and older heads, sorta need the matching bolt-angle intake. So then; if you intend to put a 4bbl on it, at some time in the future, IMO, I would...

1987 318 Tuning with Summit Carb

Okay, I'm stumped. Need some help with troubleshooting / tuning. Engine is a 1987 318 (135-145ish PSI compression and 302 heads) sitting in a Ramcharger. Cam is a Summit 6900, Edel 2107 intake, Summit M2008 600 CFM carb. I cannot get this carb adjusted correctly. I replaced a worn out...

    273 Commando Rebuild Or Not?

The stock 273 valve springs are all the same....2bbl and 4bbl. 318's used the same springs too. When installing replacement springs and retainers, check the diameters too, as some will rub the stock adjustable rockers. That's where using some bee hives can be beneficial. As for spring tension...

    Hypothetical 318 Builds

There's been a lot of 318 talk recently, so I thought what better way to have a little fun than have a hypothetical 318 built thread? Just a couple of rules. Must be stock 3.31" 318 stroke and "whatever" bore. Whatever heads, cam and pistons is fine, but no stroker. You start talkin stroker this...

Deciding on replacement intake (318, details in post)

having built the fabled 400hp 318 (twice, natch) your make or break is going to be the heads. to note, that 400 was just barely and everything has to be dress-right-dress to get there. and i honestly don't know if the air gap will do it over the single plane. i can tell you that i took the...

    273/ 2 barrel camshaft options

You should not give advice for 273 engines. There is so much wrong information in your post. The 273 was the original LA engine. They were never a smog motor. The 2 barrel pistons were almost at zero deck and were almost 9:1 compression ratio. Closed chamber heads were used from 64 to 67...

Stop in for a cup of coffee

My car came with a Poly but it was too far gone to save... i ended up putting in a 318 with trickflows and a howards roller cam.. i'm bout 2 hours of work from starting it.. It was supposed to be a temp motor, the bottom end was $300 and no idea on if it's good or not... smelled ok though :)

    Eric's cam challenge

I'm trying to figure out how that would work ? Guessing along with flow, csa and velocity also wouldn't be factored. If say you took a 340 with 318 heads vs X heads vs Trick Flows and ran the same/similar cams and cr with appropriate intake and exhaust systems. Could see making similar hp per...
