    Cheap 318 performance mods.

This is the way I see it: Distributor recurve first. Dual exhaust next, intake and 4 barrel after that. If that doesn't make you happy you can change rear gears. Remember, higher numbered ratios will make it more peppy off the line but your cruise rpm will also go up and mileage will go down...

318 with 360 heads milling : small valves

Velocity is important but it's only one of many things that's important. 318 heads are basically 273 heads which were designed for 273 displacement with near zero performance in mind, it's amazing they work as well as they do. There's 45 cid difference between 273 and 318 only 22 cid difference...

    273/ 2 barrel camshaft options

I guess that depends on your definition of "smog motor". They had both with and without C.A.P. which is an early stab at smog control. Granted, the engines are built the same, but, are tuned slightly different. The carbs are jetted and adjusted slightly different too.

    Big horsepower 318 builds

My guess it's mainly down to the heads, I'm think probably due to velocity and maybe the exhaust port is playing a role. I've been trying to figure it out also, lately.

Some of those LS heads are just that good. They really are.

picture of inside of a Pertronix dist.

Can anyone supply a photo of the inside of a Pertronix Ignitor II dist. , is there a whiteish cover over the center shaft that is the trigger point for the module? The person at tech. support, said that there should be one, however I am having so many problems with mine, I will pull it out and...

Making power out of the 318

    That is also a idea

    New here

Welcome from Georgia! Nice Duster. I built a 318 for my brother's '66 Barracuda a long time ago when we were in our 20's. His 318 could ALMOST run with my 340! I don't think you will end up with 500 HP unless you have deep pockets. However, that motor is very peppy with the right stuff in...

IM surprised by Richard Holdeners 360 Magnum camshaft swap.......

No doubt! In addition…. Cam size dependent, little to no loss of low end torque worth mentioning. Address the cylinder heads for better power no matter the cam size. He never mentions header size IIRC. He would get called out instantly by you and I right quick. I have 2 sets of those. IMO, a...

    Manifolds

273 manifolds work on the 2bbl, small valve heads, and they choke about the same time or a lil before the 2bbl cam does. The 340 logs work with the big-port heads and the 4bbls, but they kill the overlap on the 340 cam. They say, that headers allow the 340 cam to come alive, which can add quite...

    360 vs 383

No, the 383 had higher compression, 360's never had much since they came late to the game and began life, like the 318, as a low performance motor. It wasn't till they retired the 340 and gave the 360 the good stuff in 1974 that it went somewhere. Some of us noticed though, 360's used the same...

Following me home in a week

Getting a 72 Swinger to part out. Looks like a rebuilt 318( has cam card) and stamps on block from a machine shop. Has headers, edelbrock intake. An extra 8 1/4 321 sure grip rear I'll be selling too. Can't pick it up for a couple weeks

    Comp's XE Cams

I'm really looking forward to getting the car and start enjoying it. I'm going to stay with the 318 as I'm sure that it will do what I'm looking for. Car is super clean and I don't want to vary from the way it is. I may go with a different set of wheels as it has those dog dish caps on it.

    318 build suggestions?

You want an all around car. Long trips mean you won't find 93 octane gas everywhere. If you get the 318 short block you need to figure the compression to run on the octane gas you will use. Even stock 360 heads and a decent cam on a zero deck 318 short block with 3.91 gears will blow your...

    Daily driver small block build

For a daily driver or street machine you need lo rpm torque. A high hp 318 will be lacking low rpm power where you'll do 95% of your driving. Hold out for a 360. With a small cam, 14" tires and a 3.23 or 2.94 gear you will get your 20mpg and break the tires loose easily.

road car cam for my 318

so you're saying no 3/4 race cams then? a stock 360 2bbl would probably work great for your application, 410/412 252/256 (for the earlier 71~74 and then 410 252 single pattern after). the melling 23103 specs out at 410/412 with 198/199 @ 50, though their advertised shows 278/282-- which i...
