road car cam for my 318

That is not too far off... not a lot of duration (more than I would use on a 8.5 through, I would keep it well below [email protected]" duration) and too wide a LCA (110 degrees) for the crummy stock 318 heads (Vizard) but that should have a lot of vacuum.

Hughes cams - feedback on their springs/lifters?

I'm giving some thought to a fairly small Hughes HFT cam for my 318. Their website pretty clearly indicates their valve springs and lifters are the way to go with their cams. I have a good running 318 with good factory lifters, and this cam would be mated up with SM loaded heads with SM standard...

What cam to use in a 318

This will probably open up a can of worms as this subject has been well covered but I am interested in some recommendations that folks have actually built and ran. Here are the particulars. Care is a 73 Dart swinger 3.23 geared 25" tires factory high stall converter in 904 with a TF-2 shift...

    Nicks Garage 383 build

so.. for a 318 to match that 383, NA, you would need what like 12:1 with trickflows and a cam that would make it unfun to drive?

SBE 318 basic rebuild +CAM , INTAKE, HEADS, expectations?

Hi team lets me start with thanking all of you for the patience and the knowledge you provide. great stuff. so i had a couple other posts where i mentioned the 74 Duster 318/904 car i got and the different possible routes that i considered to go. i checked on the OEM engine and its a runner...

Deciding on replacement intake (318, details in post)

1st what are you trying to get out of the 318, power and rpm wise ? A 318 just gonna need more rpm and gearing than a similarly built 360 Eg. 400 hp is around 5400 rpms for a 360 and 6000 rpms for a 318.

    318 cam

Having a hard time getting the answer I’m looking for, so I’m going to try this again. I’m building a LA 318 out of a 74 satellite with the most amount of stock parts and cheap mods as possible. I’m new to all this and I don’t have a lot of money to work with . I want to put a cam in this engine...

road car cam for my 318

@str12-340 since you didn’t give a reference to what cam you’re currently running (beyond an rpm range) and it seems all you want is a new cam, here is where I’d start as a recommendation. https://www.compcams.com/xtreme-energy-206-212-hydraulic-flat-cam-for-chrysler-273-360.html I think in a...

    318 Build? Help!

i've built a few 400hp 318's and they all had more cam than that. also they were just at 400 and straight up done at 6000ish the graph shows most all of the power at 4K and more, with that big goofy torque dip and flat right in the meat of where you'd be cruising. you could make the same...

    Sixpack on a 318 engine ?

K, i do have a question and this is just a question not an attack.... a 318 is pistons and a crank, if you put on good heads/cam/springs that's the same as you do on any motor to spin rpm, what is holding a 318 back from high rpm compared to a 340 if cam/heads/springs are equal?

road car cam for my 318

That is advertised duration. If you look up the cam it’s 216/216 @ 0.050” lift.

SBE 318 basic rebuild +CAM , INTAKE, HEADS, expectations?

Then as a 318 owner myself.. i will say... go on market place and find a 360.... you will have much more torque and power for much less money.. on a good day you can find one for $300ish.. put in a cam and intake and you will probably be in the same range as the 318 with heads/cam/intake...

    920 heads - What Cam?

Hello, I was starting to replace a leaky timing cover gasket and realized that I'm half way to a cam swap. I was looking for cam suggestions, but haven't really found any good threads on my setup. if you could be so kind. I've got a 73 duster 1967 318 out of a charger, this means it came...

[WANTED] small cam for small block

looking for low-ish lift & duration for a 318 project. anybody have something puny & weak collecting dust on the shelf? maybe a piece for a long abandoned project or you decided to go with something bigger? would love a solid lifter, but hydro is the more likely play. if you're within...

No that just the basic summary of those 4 400 hp 318 builds. Your mostly there depending how well your heads are ported.

    Stovers Power Sports- Lisbon Ohio

I'm not sure what heads/Cam you have, but I would think a Virgin 360 or 5.9l could be easily found vs. A 318. I'm not much of a junkyard crawler, given my career choice, but I wouldn't give up "free" cubes for anything. Especially when a recently running 5.9 could be found for what someone is...

Changing crankshaft bearings with the engine in the car.

I didn't take pictures, but I have seen this on 80's small blocks. '82 Ramcharger 318, '84 Diplomat 318, '87 Truck 360. Changed cam bearings in the vehicle except for the back one which always looked good. Position #1-3 always looked terrible. It was side work on Saturdays and never thought...

Best cam for the street both power & sound

LOL! I sold my 318 with a 6901 to an older guy who has a 49 Plymouth. He's running the stock intake and BBD with that cam...he's happy so far...but concerned with gas mileage i told him "you'll be ok with that BBD..." but yes they are the street cam or classic cam i think the series is...

    Another 318 set up

Just sitting here thinking about how many different things can be done to the 318 to improve it's performance. Now this is only something that I thought about while waiting for the wife to get her medicine. Edelbrock AVS2 500 cfm carburetor, performer intake, stock heads with a good 3 angle...

David Vizard - Which to prioritize - PORT FLOW or PORT VELOCITY?

Yeah until you see a 318 with ported 318 stock valves run mid 12's with a 218 hydraulic cam in 3400 pound street car.

Need recommendation for a Carb for better MPG!

IMHO, you, for straight fuel economy; you need to get the cruise rpm down to something like 65=1800, then re-engineer the advance for whatever she needs, then tune the carb; any carb. But, to run 1800, with a factory 340 cam and headers is counter-productive for two reasons; 1) with the very...

That 6901 is a perfect cam for a stock 318. It's pretty mild.

SBE 318 basic rebuild +CAM , INTAKE, HEADS, expectations?

Red x Different torque converter, different pan, different driver side mount. Have to add the cost of those. Then to make that 360 run, a rebuild to get rid of the dished pistons to help compression , for beginners, no, keep the 318 for a cruiser. Better bang for the buck. Unless there's...

What cam to use in a 318

"By the numbers" the comp XE 256 almost looks like the "perfect" cam for a 318 that otherwise stock except for a 4 barrel and dual exhaust.

    Never mind

Wiki says that Loveland is about 4800 ft elevation, that's gonna be a downer. Doing the math; If your 318 is an LA with a true deck height of 9.600, those piston-tops are still gonna be .012 in the holes. This, at 020 over, is 2.4cc, add the dome/ eyebrows, -6 the for the heads 72 and for 039...
