    Stroker 340>416 Build Advice

I bought the exhaust for the 318 that's in it now, been running it for years. Haven't even assembled the 416 yet and just wondering if I should run a different cam, I could redo the exhaust but I'd like to at least drive it first so I have some kind of baseline. I do appreciate the advice, the...

Steve Dulcich on building a budget 318

Sound like he was describing the comp xe268h cam wouldn't be a bad 318 cam with stall and gears.

SBE 318 basic rebuild +CAM , INTAKE, HEADS, expectations?

350 hp no big deal, 318 heads aren't gonna do it, any 340/360/magnum heads will depending on the head cam need will vary something in the 220-225° range should do it with 600-750, air gap and headers and at least 9:1 cr. 318 or 360 should do it just the 318 gonna spin like 400-600 higher rpm to...

    Cam Experts: Lobe Separation Angle?

IMO Post 15, is on the money. IMO the 340 cam in the hi-compression 340 only worked as well as it did because of the package it was in, which included; a high compression ratio, log manifolds, a lightweight chassis, and limited rpm in a street application. IMO that 114LSA which may have...

AJ's Opinions; for the Teener Street guys. You know; zero to 60 and a decent cruise rpm.

For example... my 318 (4bbl w/summit cam) with 2.76's, stock torque converter and exhaust manifolds turned the same time and mph in the 1/4 mile as a factory '73 340 Duster with 3.21's. I was very happy with that :) Cruise 75 mph all day if I wanted to also :)

    Been awhile

*wearily* you... you missed the "best cam for a 318" discussions and if you can make horsepower with a 318 fear not, there will be another, likely by the end of the week. the battles continue as the war is not yet won...

Deciding on replacement intake (318, details in post)

ok, then i'd go 4" stroker for 395 cu in and decent ally heads. that 318 ran a 13.2 1/4 mile in another 68 valiant also with a 4 speed. neil. edit the 600 holleys got swapped for 390s by mark who bought the valiant from me. neil.

For those that want to know, here is what a 1989 318 Roller Engine looks like inside: Bolt down the "Spider" and it's ready for the 318 intake of choices. Stock roller cam works well with 1406 Edelbrock 4 bbl carb. 302 factory closed chamber heads Factory 9.2:1 compression ratio Flat top...

road car cam for my 318

He may be retired by now but the guy that runs Oregon Cam gives great advice. His name slips my mind right now. He’s a wealth of information. Oregon Cam is still in business.

road car cam for my 318

2000 rpm at 75? Don't use a cam with any performance designed into it. With the OD and those gears most any cam but a stock spec one will be too much. (generally speaking)

Best cam for the street both power & sound

And the OP has a 318. He needs to be mindful that a stock teen can't use much of a cam without modifications.

AJ's Opinions; for the Teener Street guys. You know; zero to 60 and a decent cruise rpm.

To my target audience; Those of you with stock-powered 318 Darts and such, that drive your cars as DDs to work every day, and do not wish to be revving at 3200, nor getting single-digit mpgs, nor are interested in racing. But all you really want, is to get off the line a lil quicker. Consider...

    Installing small cam in Stroker?

Yeah and anything over 250hp from a stop is already spinning the tires; and a streeter like me, up here in Manitoba, is risking losing his driving privilege's, and hefty fines, every time I top out Second gear, spinning all the way. But you know, a small-cam stroker at 5000 ft, could/would be...

    My cam numbers!

How does this 270/280/108 cam compare to the Hughes one below? They never have it on their website but seemed to be a good runner in an almost stock 5.9 magnum a guy on YouTube had. Always was curious and the cam in this thread reminded of just based on some of the numbers.

318 bogging at high rpm, but only in first gear?

I’m pretty new to this, and can’t logic myself an explanation. 1974 318, some cylinder wear, nothing terrible 1971 stock heads with a fresh valve job and springs were tested New lifters Double roller timing set Unknown cam, either stock or very mild, no advance TDC confirmed, as well as cam...

Deciding on replacement intake (318, details in post)

Dammit, for the cost of getting a stroker kit landed here I could as well find a 360 and Magnum heads are no easy find either. Looks like I may have to rethink the stubborn desire to keep it 318. Randomly stumbled across this whilst looking up the cam grind for the crane. Pokey! Old School...

Low Compression/High Boost and Pump Gas

I built a sacrificial lamb for testing of the roots engine for my 70 Challenger. Built it out of what I had laying around out of old 318. Dipped the block, new cam bearings / soft plugs. Had the crank turned, honed the cylinders. New rings, opened up the ring gap. Grabbed a set of 2.02 J heads...

    Magnum and Wiring Swap

I went from a 318 TBI to a 5.9 SMPI and for me the bottom end torque difference was night and day better. Even pulls a steeper hill in OD without kicking down now. Completely different rig.

    318 question?

It sounds like you could build it as an LA but as cheap as LA 318's are, why bother. You can find LA Teens for $100 or less. Even better yet would be a Magnum with a roller cam. Just sayin.

What cam to use in a 318

It's kind of considered middle ground for a street cam, above this level each step up you generally tend to start really trading bottom end power for top end power and gears stall starts to become more and more necessary. Obviously not set into stone.

    Cheap 318 performance mods.

off the cuff, something like a factory 340 converter would be fine so what 22~2500 (that would be for a low end converter). i mean considering a stock 318 converter is like, negative stall (i'm kidding it's probably 1800) i'd think anything 2+ would be an improvement. now if you're talking high...

    318 question?

Thanks Bewy! You may be correct, I wasn’t sure about what cam it had in it so I took it to a machine shop friend of mine and he didn’t know what brand the cam was but he measured the lift and said it was slightly under what a standard LA cam was. Didn’t write the numbers down but he said it was...

SBE 318 basic rebuild +CAM , INTAKE, HEADS, expectations?

The specs on the cam indicate improving low end torque and overall performance, win win for a low compression 318. I now several guys using the Whiplash, one with a 360 and another with a 400, both said the cam made the low compression engines into a different beast.

    2 barrel to 4 barrel

Even on a stock 273 2 barrel engine. You have to remember a 318 has a very small hydraulic cam with no lift and no duration. 50 hp requires more compression, cam change, as well as the little things that all add up. Still a worthwhile upgrade. The only car I liked with a 2 barrel carb was my...

Headers for 67 barracuda 318 with no modifications

Why bother, AFAIK there are only two good reasons for to run a header, namely; Scavenging and Inertial tuning; neither of which are desirable on a stock 318. The stock cam has like 20* of overlap, so scavenging is not gonna occur. Inertial tuning sure but to what effect? You are likely...

SBE 318 basic rebuild +CAM , INTAKE, HEADS, expectations?

I don't know why were trying to make this 318 work you got a 440, at best get 318 running with minimum cost gather all the parts needed for the swap then swap, or just start the swap now and have it ready for spring. There's nothing wrong if you got a decent running 318 and add 4bbl cam headers...
