Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

318 Dyno Pull Here is a close to stock (sort of) 318 Magnum with a fresh top end and something like a 340 cam grind. .274 on 114 lobe centers. 253 Wheel Horse Power Add 75 HP for driveline loss. 253 + 75 = "328 HP" at crankshaft They are running 600 cfm Edelbrock. Pretty darn good...

How far in the hole 318 pistons

How about searching out an '89 - '91 roller 318, or the earlier '86 - '88 roller 318? The generation of 318 Roller Cam engines all came with the flat top pistons .040 ths down in the hole at 9.2:1 c.r. stock without even having to touch them. With the factory 302 Closed Chamber heads with the...

Anyone have any idea what cam I might have?

The engine definitely has a solid lifters. if I set a pre-load it will hang the valve open, not building any compression. thanks "Bewy" I also found a crower cam with solid lifters that has a similar lift, see picture below. it has the 22/24 lash specs so I can only assume that is pretty similar...

David Vizard - Which to prioritize - PORT FLOW or PORT VELOCITY?

If you go by these formulas for a second (say there in the ballpark) and calculate what's too big for a 318 to make peak power at 5,000 rpms the trick flows come out to be slightly lower than the lowest acceptable velocity. But if you put a set of trick flow on a 318 even with an rv cam it's...

road car cam for my 318

that's a decent little cam for a run around. i've run that with a 1.6 rockers and it was a nice little mill with the added lift to that duration.

What cam to use in a 318

Sir, I don't mean to sound disrespectful but read what I said and you'll see that I was asking if it's to much cam for the 318 that's being discussed that has a 9.2:1 CR. I didn't mean or say that it's too much cam.

    Should I buy this 440?

Mopar engineers thought dual exhaust was good for 20 HP on a '73 2 barrel 318. How much on a 440 that also had a hotter cam, 4 barrel, and slightly less restrictive manifolds?

    Horsepower Estimate?

Pretty spot on, however I'm not sure about stock 318 having 150 untapped. Those heads suuuuuck.

SBE 318 basic rebuild +CAM , INTAKE, HEADS, expectations?

if you're going to delve into machine work, then you're into the 360 paradox. why spend that money on a 318 when you can make more power, easier and cheaper with a 360. and if you're gonna zero deck it, then why not get some decent pistons? something that can take spray or boost? as they say: in...

    Nicks Garage 383 build

It depends on "WHO" is driving the thing. For "one of us" for instance, it wouldn't be a problem. But we have some on here who think driving a three on the tree is a chore.

    Never mind

@thecatsfan KB-191 is a 3.58 crank stroke slug not usable with a 319 & a 3.31 stroke crank. The OP should use the slugs he has and let the machinist do his work fitting them in the new bored out cylinders of equal height and use the appropriate gasket thickness to achieve what he needs as...

Carb choice for a mutt motor.

Wow '68 318, 230 hp 9:2:1 cr, short block, with 273 closed chamber heads. Light free floating rods and flat top pistons with valve relief (factory in '68) .040 ths down in the hole. I am liking this, 600 cfm 1406 perfect carb for that 318. Even if the 318 stock short block has the original...

Deciding on replacement intake (318, details in post)

who told you a stroker won't rev? at 3.95" bore and 4" stroke it's pretty much 'square' after all. revs are down to cam, heads, induction and exhaust as you know. the limiting factor with a higher hp/revving small block mopar is heads not stroke. the reason some say strokers won't rev is they...

    My cam numbers!

If your cam turns out to be a 270/280/108, the intake side is about the same as was my Hughes 270/276, but at 108LSA, the exhaust side is better. and with more overlap for absolute power. This cam, in at 107, the big picture is 270/118/111/280/59* overlap/Ica of 62* .....Mine, when in at 109...

SBE 318 basic rebuild +CAM , INTAKE, HEADS, expectations?

Summer almost done, I do the 440 swap over the winter and have a badass car for spring, there's no way I'd pick a 318 over a 440 if that was the choice, I've have nothing against 318's but to me that's a pretty easy choice, even would choose the 440 over a 360. For a street car, most self...

    920 heads - What Cam?

Keep in mind the factory 318 valve springs aren’t suitable for pretty much any aftermarket performance camshaft …….especially if they’re 50+ years old. Any cam swap should include a spring replacement.

Steve Dulcich on building a budget 318

He done at least 3 different 400 hp 318 builds basically 225-245 cams, 9.7-10.5:1 cr, airgap headers, one with magnum heads one with ported 302 heads with 2.02 and one with older EQ then ported them out for 425 hp and and one just added xe262h cam and 4bbl and headers on stock low cr 318 for 282 hp.

    340 cam change

I had a 340 resto cam in my 318 and did not like it so I swapped it out with a Comp Cam XE250. Nice mild street cam real nice torque down low. If your cam is hydraulic make sure your oil has zinc.

Does this prove David Vizard's 128 lsa formula ?

No that would be his recommended lsa, for street and or race. Say you like comps xe256h cam on 110 for your engine, to DV that choice basically you'd keep the same basic overlap and cut the cam on 105 lsa with that overlap and that would give you your new duration, probably something like a 250...

Lower control arm parallel to ground - alignment problems?

Lets get something straight, > I'm not being mean towards the owners of 318s, > nor to 318s in general, > nor especially to 318s with 160Plus psi, > just those 318s, in what may have started out as 108 to 115psi, and now with a big cam, is pumping less than 95psi. I been there; nothing sux...

    Sizing carburetor

well, for better or worse, I have a 318 thats about to get a mild cam and probably a TQ. I do have a couple of AFBs on hand too, but at the moment one of those is Plan B. 800 cfm on a 318.. Hmmm....

How would you rebuild this 318?

I have a knock in my 318. Its definitely a lower end knock. My guess is a connecting rod. This is what I have; Bored .020 over stock pistons, rods, crank Compression ranged from 138 - 143 when I last checked it Comp cam XE262 262/270 duration, 462/470 lift 302 casting heads milled to 58 cc...

So a stock 318 with bolt on parts. Yeah gotta have that MSD. They too have failure rates and some of them are quite frequent.

road car cam for my 318

What are the current specs on your cam? Go to answer is: get a custom cam. Racer Brown and others. You may be able to regrind the one you have since you are going smaller. I used to get 25 mpg+ steady cruising with a 340 cam and a TQ in a 273. Using a vacuum gage helps to teach you how to...

Need recommendation for a Carb for better MPG!

60 miles a day in a 340 car! Friend, you need a Smartcar. Or, Part-1 pull the top end off that 340, including the cam. and bolt on a 318 top end/cam . I did that in somewhere in the early to mid 70s. That is still my favorite all time engine, and it was just slapped together with left-over...

Best cam for the street both power & sound

And for some reason he's dead against hopping up a 318 beside duals and tune, he says you can't put a cam in cause of under 3,000 rpm performance with stock stall and gears fine but then he recommends a aftermarket stall and deeper gears but even after installing those stall and gears your still...

Can someone help with this cam ID?

I'm just wondering if its too much cam for my build. Some of the reading I've done is saying that cam is only making about 9" of vacuum max. I need a bit more to run my power brakes. So, that is also weighing on whether or not I choose something else. I just don't want to over cam. For...
