Don't fit with power steering. I switched to manual steering and the drivers side clears fine.

    Headers vs 340 manifolds

Depending on the exhaust behind it I would wager 15hp.

    HEADERS

Have the 2" Tti on my 72 Duster with a 440. Really wanted the 1 7/8 but Tti says they don't fit. Mine fet well enough, though they hit the pass fender and the pass side torsion bar( aftermarket bigger bars). Not an issue just an annoying rattle. I will clearance them when I replace the 440...

    Headman Big Block Headers

I have used them on multiple C bodies. With a small starter I don't see why it wouldn't work. If it clears the p.s. you are likely good to go. It is worth a try

    Have you ever lost

I lost interest in my Polara and sold it four years ago. Had the same thing happen to my 86 D150 and my 96 Impala SS. Get oh so close and something happens and I give up.Bought my 68 300 back after 20+ years and it sat until I traded it for my 72 Newport and now it sits. Need to build a motor...

    440 Cam selection help

I have the xe 274 cam in the 440 in my Duster (in the engine when I bought the car). Also came with stock 452 heads and 8.0-1 compression with an Edelbrock performer intake,Edelbrock 750 carb, and tri-y headers. Ran ok. Not fast by any means. Switched to cnc ported 440 source heads, performer rpm...

    383 Torker info

Sometime before the Torker II came out .:poke: I would guess somewhere in the 80's. I would have no problem using it. I can imagine it would respond better with lower gears.

    74 Duster (318 CI) to 440

I agree. Keep it a small block and keep the a/c. If mine hadn't already been swapped when I bought it , I doubt I would be putting a big block in it.

    74 Duster (318 CI) to 440

No on any of the accessories swapping over. Those are your best header options but the Hedman shortie headers may fit with a small starter. Some have used manifolds (search threads here). 750 vacuum secondary carb or any other 750 is fine. If you ever put sticky tires on it that 8.25 rear...

    Big block oiling mods

If someone were to run an in pan pickup at what point/rpm would the 1/2 be beneficial? On a 505 rb motor. 6000/6500 max rpm. Sorry for the thread hijack but sort of related.

    Gears

Depends on how much street and how far you plan to drive it on the street. Without knowing the rest of the combo I would say anywhere from 3.55 to 4.10 would be adequate.

Garage Cat Sam (He was big on Mopars - Darts in particular.)

As one of my feral rescues sleeps on my lap while I type this,I am sorry for your loss. I understand the connection and the pain all too well. Currently have four inside and four outside. The oldest being 22 years old. The world will be a dark place when she goes.

Don't need the whole thing but I would take the carrier and the ring and pinion. Not likely I know but throwing it out there just in case.

    Building my first 440

Yes,leaps and bounds better in every way. I have a set of edelbrocks and a set of 440 source. I would not hesitate to get a set of sidewinder heads from Marsh Performance if budget was the main point. He assembles them according to your needs. Any other brand I would have someone go through them...

1970 Dodge Dart with a 440 burned the head gasket, what caused this?

I had one do that years ago when I let a friend borrow my car amd he put 87 in it. Detonation city for mine. Wore a groove in the block between two cylinders and ruined one well ported 516 head with big valves.

I see a missing rod bolt.

Yikes! I bet that made a racket.
  28. 496 polara

    Any street 440 build suggestions

Small cam = small power. Those big headers aren't helping the numbers either but it did exactly what the cam was designed for.
