    318 Build? Help!

This past summer my brother and I finished a similar build in his Trailduster. Similar meaning the primary focus was torque, towing the 3000lb trailer, and probably never seeing over 4500rpm. We built a 360 using the Lunati VooDoo 10200701. For a 318 I'd use the next step smaller (which is...

    Cracked block cause?

You didn't specify 5.9 LA or Magnum. When I was a trainer in the Chrysler training group we would stress this could happen to Magnum engines if the vertical intake bolts were tightened excessively. The Magnum engine intakes only required 12 ft/lbs of torque. I personally only heard one...

    A little Turbo Selection Help

I'm not an engineer, but you can search the Internet and find issue after issue the the Mopar magnetic pickup and not with the Ford Duraspark or GM HEI pickups when used with EFI systems. I recall something about the amplitude variation or the small cap letting spark disrupt the signal. It's not...

    A little Turbo Selection Help

The Mopar two wire magnetic pickup, as reliable as it is, doesn't play well with computers. Many many people have issues getting a reliable, readable signal for the computer. The Jeep CPS and many others are a three wire hall effect sensor. The computer sees the signal from the hall effect as...

Changing crankshaft bearings with the engine in the car.

I didn't take pictures, but I have seen this on 80's small blocks. '82 Ramcharger 318, '84 Diplomat 318, '87 Truck 360. Changed cam bearings in the vehicle except for the back one which always looked good. Position #1-3 always looked terrible. It was side work on Saturdays and never thought...

360 HP Confusion. History of this motor?

The black valve cover engines were definitely -3 (Special High Performance - more in a bit). There was the 'lil Red which was supposed to be -3 (some were stamped HP) but it had chrome valve covers. Most of the Super Coupes I have seen had the black valve covers, but 2 of them I checked were...

360 HP Confusion. History of this motor?

Thank you. I have to learn that now I am required to verify my facts since the accident last year. Correct, not sodium filled it's Stellite faced (coated) exhaust valves. Those valves were supposedly only the -3 engines.

360 HP Confusion. History of this motor?

IIRC from 1979, I'll have to look up 1980 again. E57 360 4BBL Engine stamped 360H There were three E58 engines available E58 360 4BBL Engine stamped 360HP with and without A.I.R. pump different VIN codes E58 360 4BBL Engine stamped 360_3 which was supposed to be the 'lil Red, Super Coupe...

    74 Duster 4 banger Street/Strip Build

Just flange the quarter and finish out everything nicely then Dzus the fiberglass into position. It will make it easier to service and adjust the rear suspension and tires in the pits. I know you strive to make things light.

    74 Duster 4 banger Street/Strip Build

You will have the ability to tune for any condition with a 4 link, but if you go with a monoleaf and Caltracs leave room to move the shocks to the front of the axle. There are a few guys running really fast monoleaf cars that picked up 60ft time moving the shocks in front of the axle. I didn't...

    Small block oil restriction

The Magnum rocker arms are lubed via the oil galley in the block. The oil pressure makes it's way through the lifter, into the hollow pushrod, and out to the rocker. This is why you can't easily put LA heads on a Magnum block except for early production Magnum blocks which had the oil passage...

    hughes rockers

Harland Sharp makes both 1.6 and 1.7 adjustable and non adjustable. You can use the Ford Motorsports 1.7 kit which was supplied by Crane. IIRC the only difference between that kit and the MP (also supplied by Crane) was the pushrods. Basically, any 5.0 Ford Windsor pedestal mount (bolt on)...

A-518 no longer available at MP?

Blue tag on a transmission? A blue P3690426 tag sounds like a MP distributor not a transmission. The MP A518 was p/n P5249166 which is discontinued. What is the PK number on the pan rail?

How fast are you going with a stock planetary

The fast Stock eliminator guys run three pinion planetaries, but everything is custom. There are needle bearings underneath each pinion as well needle bearings under the planetary carrier. There is so much stress at the pinion to carrier if no needle bearing thrust is installed, more pinions...

How fast are you going with a stock planetary

I checked my brain and found I'm partially correct. There are four planets: 62-65, 66-75, 76-93, 94-up with each having various (3,4,5) numbers of actual planetary gears There are three splines: 62-75, 76-93, and 94-up The only factory steel carrier planets I know of are 94-up I have not...

How fast are you going with a stock planetary

What year is the 727? There have only been three different splines on the nose of the output shaft over the years. Some planetaries will install on the wrong output shaft only to strip out after a short time. If you want a cheap steel planetary you better find a B van with a 727 from 91-93 to...

    833+magnum?

I used a 45RFE out of a HEMI truck hooked to a 10.3:1 5.9 Magnum in my 85 D150. It's getting rewired right now with a megasquirt and megashift. It did really well for about 30,000 miles, but the lack of being able to tune the shifts, lock-up schedule, timing curve, and fuel table was more than...

    833+magnum?

This is what I'm talking about. The rear sensor is for the crank; the front is for my transmission (you wouldn't need it). Each notch is two degrees wide, the same as the notch for the timing mark. The sensor has to be in the correct spot vs. TDC.

Call Brewers for a flywheel. I think it's about $300. There is a bolt on weight that allows you to use a 5.9 Magnum.

    833+magnum?

I machined the balancer and made a bracket on my 360 Magnum to allow me to use the transmission I wanted. There are 8 holes/grooves/windows 2 degrees wide that need to be made. The groove for TDC is right at 2 degrees wide on a 5.9 Magnum. The exact position for the sensor in relation to TDC...

James, I thought I was the only person on earth with the crazy idea of putting a 2.2/2.5 into an A body. Have you considered using the adapter plate as a mid plate and eliminating the engine motor mounts altogether? In some respects it makes engine/transmission service much easier. Bill...

QUIET external low-pressure electric fuel pump?

Mad Dart is the regulator a Mallory 4307M? I did a quick search and the only Mallory regulator I can find ending with an "M" is the 4307M. I ask because I'm putting together the fuel system for a friends car right now, and you seem to have no regrets about your setup.

Older 904 to Newer la or magnum?

The torque converter pilot is different (early 1.55" vs late 1.80"). A simple adapter sleeve would have to be made or vibration/flex plate damage could happen. You can't swap the torque converter to the later style unless the transmission input shaft is changed because the splines are...

Lost Reverse in 904. Please help!

You wrote it pulls forward in neutral. Smell the fluid. If it smells burnt you most likely burnt the front clutch which is used in reverse and 3rd. I hope it's just the reverse servo cocked in the bore like TrailBest suggested.

jeep liberty 8 1/4" rear end under a 62 valiant?

1st gen Liberty is the good old Mopar 5X4.5" bolt circle along with the same center register. There is a problem trying to run the aluminum Jeep rims on the front of an old Mopar due to the hub. It depends on the wheel, but it usually involves trimming the spindle threads off to the end of the...
