    318LA build

If rebuilding you can make measurements to find out and make any necessary mods to fit whatever cam you want. What you should be finding out what cams are gonna suit your build and if they require you to do mods to run them piston to valve and or retainer clearance etc.. Then you could decide...

    Roller cam - Magnum

I have 3 318's, 2 from -89 roller cams in cars & 1 solid from -77 sitting & while I was cleaning the roller lifters in one a guy said roller cam engines are Magnum engines... That pussled me as I never though so, what's the correct answer?

    LA 318 advice

Never said it couldn't have a mild idle on a 108, I said overlap is responsible for rough idle and the two main factors are more duration and tighter lsa, so if you go with a tighter lsa with a smaller duration you get less overlap smoother idle, it depends on the overall overlap not how you...

    LA 318 advice

No it won't. As long as he keeps duration down, it will not. If he uses something like 216 @ .050 on a 108, he'll have a barely noticeable idle in a 318. You telling him that is gonna scare him away from what he needs. All slant 6 cams are ground on 108 and 109 LSAs. Do they idle rough stock? No.

SBE 318 basic rebuild +CAM , INTAKE, HEADS, expectations?

The specs on the cam indicate improving low end torque and overall performance, win win for a low compression 318. I now several guys using the Whiplash, one with a 360 and another with a 400, both said the cam made the low compression engines into a different beast.

SBE 318 basic rebuild +CAM , INTAKE, HEADS, expectations?

True. My 273 Valiant was a nice highway car with 2.76 with a 26'' tire. But getting to 65 MPH seemed to take forever.Avatar photo. The 318 Belvedere I have now also has 2.76 with a 29'' tire has more grunt down lower. Both engines were stock bottom end and stock heads. Edelbrock Performer...

Hughes cams - feedback on their springs/lifters?

i like their products, but sometimes their customer service puts me off to the point of if i'm able to find it elsewhere i'll go that route. that being said, i like the fact that they offer a supporting cast for the star of the show and it is specifically designed to work together rather than...

273 swap to 318/ build, cost, potential, daily driver

factory stock, low-compression LA360-2V short block, with your 318/273 top end, your 904 trans(rebuilt), your convertor(rebalanced) any rear gears with a limited slip, and 318/273 cam With the closed chamber heads, you compression ratio will skim 9/1. The extra cubes will pump up the bottom-end...

Oh, the sound is the mufflers job. The camshaft will produce the rhythm.

Best cam for the street both power & sound

Hey everyone i am new here I recently bought a 71 plymouth duster roller no engine or trans I plan on building a mild 318 la that is choppy and has good torque and pep for the street and maybe some strip along with a 46rh trans and 3.23 or 3.55 gears Plan on adding Long tube headers Edelbrock...

    1966 273 Commando - Thoughts

If yur contemplating hiway miles to cruize-ins with a 273, a stall to match a 287/cam, and say at least 3.91s, then yur gonna need an overdrive. That's like 3000>4000, plus cutting up the floor. For less money and better IMO performance, you can drop in any lazy-azz 360 with a 4-barrel and...

    273/ 2 barrel camshaft options

I guess that depends on your definition of "smog motor". They had both with and without C.A.P. which is an early stab at smog control. Granted, the engines are built the same, but, are tuned slightly different. The carbs are jetted and adjusted slightly different too.

    Roller cam - Magnum

Hi team lets me start with thanking all of you for the patience and the knowledge you provide. great stuff. so i had a couple other posts where i mentioned the 74 Duster 318/904 car i got and the different possible routes that i considered to go. i checked on the OEM engine and its a runner...

    340 cam for 318

If you’ll go halves;). That’s not going to be in the budget. I’ll have the shop take the block to 9.58 and square, been reading through the head porting thread, pretty similar to SBC heads, a few more things to remove, but easy enough and is basically no cost. I wont take it as far as to where...

    Stroke a 318

honestly, if you're going to build a stroked 318, I'd start with an '85-91 block. they have factory roller cams, 302 heads. the roller cam is the biggie. you can get it reground, or get a roller cam and reuse the stock roller lifters at a much lower cost than the retrofit roller lifters...

    340 cam for 318

Nice, like! It’s only a few degrees larger than a OEM 360 cam. “Small” Lift has no bearing on any concerns but will certainly aid in power. The OEM heads flow well to 500 lift. The head can handle it and the engine won’t go down on power. I hope not! Terrible intake, carb to small He can...

    Nick's Garage dyno's a 318 Stroker.

There will always be those that discount the 318. It just didn't have the glory of the 340 because it didn't receive the cams, 4bbl, good manifolds... it was a grocery-getter. But for what the 318 will do, it's worth it. You can get cheap power from a 318. Try buying anything 340 cheaply. :D

Anyone Run a Crane Z-268-2 Cam in their 318?

I'm freshening up a 1974 low comp 318 with a quick hone, new plasma moly rings and new bearings. I done some home bowl porting & port matched the 675 heads with larger 1.88 / 1.60 valves. SCR will be around 8.5:1 with Mr Gasket 1121G (0.028") head gaskets. Using a port matched Performer intake...

    Probably a Dumb 318 Question

Not a dumb question and if you don’t know, you don’t know. So this is my take on the often seen and labeled, lowly 318. I’m sure the 318 haters will be along shortly. 318 LA vs Fords coyote. The Ford has ever advantage the modern world has to offer with the LA having major problems upgrading...

    340 cam for 318

    What carburetor do I have?

Looks like a Holley replacement for the BBD. They called them Economasters, then later Chrysler used then on 318's. My story to show how dumb I and other people were back in our younger years. I had an engine builder build me a heavy duty 318 that was going to get driven a lot of miles. I got...

    Eric's cam challenge

I'm trying to figure out how that would work ? Guessing along with flow, csa and velocity also wouldn't be factored. If say you took a 340 with 318 heads vs X heads vs Trick Flows and ran the same/similar cams and cr with appropriate intake and exhaust systems. Could see making similar hp per...

    340 cam for 318

@Baggs - What is the rear ends gear ratio and tire size? The cams mentioned below work well with 2.94 to 3.55 gear ratio pretty good. The weird thing with Chrysler is for a long time there is a gap between the 3.55 to 3.91 ratios. The 3.73 went missing in the early days. It’s available though...

road car cam for my 318

so you're saying no 3/4 race cams then? a stock 360 2bbl would probably work great for your application, 410/412 252/256 (for the earlier 71~74 and then 410 252 single pattern after). the melling 23103 specs out at 410/412 with 198/199 @ 50, though their advertised shows 278/282-- which i...

    Another 318 set up

honestly, if you want a 318, try find a running 318 magnum. clean up the heads with a little bowl porting & 5 angle vj, trim the guides a skoash, get hughes #1110 springs, thin head gasket, rering, get the roller cam reground by bullet cams using their HR259/316 or HR259/326 lobes on the...
