How come some brands of soild lifters are one piece and other brands the lifter looks like a HYD lifter ?

Edelbrock, Indy, RHS, nobody makes W2 heads, why not ? They do flow better, why just copy the factory heads. I wounder if trademark rights have something to do with it?
