The carb shown above has a manual choke, I'm guessing your carb has an automatic choke. Plus you have no idea if the jets and metering rods are correct for your application.

Get some brake cleaner and clean it off GOOD, then blow it dry with compressed air. If it comes back, find out from where and fix it.

I thought the dash number for retainers was how many. Like 766-12 would be for a slant 6 for instance, while 766-16 for a V8. I think that's how it is. That said, I caint find a DANG thing on that 766 part number. Are you sure the number is correct? Not a typo? And have you tried calling Comp? I...

In that case, run the four barrel a while, then go to a six pack. Run that a while and go to eight one barrels.

A different ignition is not going to make the difference if it's super sluggish. Have you tried tuning what's there first? And besides all that, we have a fine member, @halifaxhops (Ray) who can help you with all that. I don't know why all these members turn traitor and recommend anything else.

I could be wrong about the Motorcraft....I just know the Holley 2300 has to have an adapter to go on the Super Six intake.
