So I'm getting to the end of things I need to figure out on my 64 cuda with a dodge d100 72 318 with a904 automatic. The guy i got project from had sold the intake and carb...unfortunately that mean all the throttle linkage is gone. I bought an intake and on top of that is the quadrajet 4...

Like maybe one of the bolts has come loose? I suppose I could remove inspection cover and check.

318 with a904 auto transmission. When engine is running and transmission is in park there is a grinding noise. With engine not running and put it in neutral and start engine the grinding noise is gone. Suggestions??

The only thing I see different is i have the ignition and wire to ecu both attached to the ballast resistor..

This is how I have it wired. I apologize for the crewed drawing.

I tested coil with ohm meter and both primary and secondary coils are good. Took ballast resistor out and checked it and it shoes 1.0 ohms of resistance

I'm also getting 12.4v on both sides of the ballast resistor

Could coil be bad? Ecu is grounded to bare metal. I am not using factory wiring . I just have it wired in engine bay to get it running

Update: With key on there is 12.4v on bith the negative and positive side of the coil. When cranking they both drop down to approximately 10.5v

No shaft play in distributor

Look at picture...the screw and slot are all the way one way..no more adjustments !

The problem is the magnetic pickup up is out of adjustment ...do people just tweak them with a pliers?

Another issue is with magnetic pickup up fully adjusted this is the gap..

Update.. I cleaned ecu plug connection. With key on there is power to the positive side of coil. When cranking there is power to negative side of coil... When I mean power ..checked using test light

I may have found the issue..see pics The wiring is all new..no old wiring harness..just wiring to get engine to run. When I replaced pick up and reluctor wheel I when thru distributor and cleaned it and no play in it. Tested coil...it's good..new ballast resistor tested...good..all connectors...

So decided to try keeping it the way it is...so here is what has been replaced: new coil, ballast resistor, cap and rotor, pick up and reluctor wheel, wires and plugs. I have wired it correctly, only thing not replaced is the ecu. Still...no spark. Reminder...the motor is a 1972 318 ...
