rocker shafts installed backwards... long read. but pics!

Yup. Backwards. Notch on the passenger side down and to the rear, notch on the driver side down and to the front. The important thing is to make sure the small oiling holes point down and toward the valve springs, because sometimes, the shafts don't have notches or anything. It's all covered in...

There was a member very recently who said they spoke with Comp and whoever it was they spoke with actually admitted they are using inferior metal.

Firm Fell sells new for like 300. The fact is, sometimes you don't need one. I did a 360 swap in a 65 slant 6 Valiant years ago and retained the slant 6 center link. It was close, but it didn't hit.

What cam to use in a 318

I've seen stock guides interfere with retainers at .450 lift, so cutting guides down should be a part of your build regardless. You have to run the matching springs with whatever cam you choose anyway, so the springs have to come off regardless.

Lunati's VooDoo 268 would be a good one. Nice and lumpy in a 318.

    Oil dipstick full mark

You've gathered incorrectly. This is why one dipstick and tube does not fit all. For example, try putting a 67-76 A body slant 6 pan on a 66 and back slant 6 A body. Ain't happenin, because the pans are shaped differently. There are subtle shape differences in V8 pans as well, so you have to be...

    Interesting stuff yall. Thanks.

    Oil dipstick full mark

"Most" all small blocks do fill with 4 quarts in the pan, plus the filter. Trucks take an extra quart and are usually full at 6 quarts, including filter. What you're not grasping is, not all A body pans are shaped the same. Even though all the passenger car pans are 4 quart pans, the shape...

'63 Valiant V200 wagon - heater blower removal

THe whole box must be removed. There's no gulp involved. It's a 15 minute job to remove the box with hand tools. Unless it has A/C then it's "a little" more involved. THere are the four nuts under the hood around the motor, two hoses, one or two fasteners inside and three cables to remove. A...

    Oil dipstick full mark

The question as you asked has no answer, as there are several different dipstick lengths, dipstick tube lengths and oil pans, so what someone comes up with here, will probably not be correct for you. Your best bet is to do an oil change as suggested, add the proper amount of oil for whatever...

I Chose the 383 Big Block

You should replace all of them with 383 HP pistons and bore it. No way can those bores be good with rings rusted that badly.

    It's not salvageable. Period.

Left hand lug nuts are back, baby!

Correct, PLUS the bevel in the wheel and on the 5 individual lug nuts locks the nuts in place. If I am not mistaken, the single large nut they use in the center has a flat contact surface. So they need to be directional in order not to back off.

Is there a junkyard gem slant six combo?

IMO, the 79 Super Six is the best to build. Cast crank engine, but still solid lifters. The cast crank will take whatever you can throw at it and is much lighter than the forged crank. That'd be my choice. In fact, I'm lookin for one. lol
