    .480/230 cam in an 8.5 CR 360?

Changing crankshaft bearings with the engine in the car.

I haven’t heard a lot about the cam bearings, but I do know that a considerable number of the cams produced weren’t adequately heat treated. I have seen an early 5.9 magnum before that had the cam bearings pretty well chewed up in it before. The cam was showing signs of delaminating on the...

Changing crankshaft bearings with the engine in the car.

I’d run half a bottle of engine flush and drain the oil through a screen, followed by cutting the oil filter open and see how much debris there is. Refill with some of this and see what kind of pressure you get. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/mao-39-389128

    .480/230 cam in an 8.5 CR 360?

Those would be a No Brainer for me. Deep port the flanges of the performer intake to match a set of 1243 Fel-Pro gaskets (theyr'e a performance intake gasket for a 273/318, but they match a J head's intake ports well), and install the cam on a 105 ICL. The compression boost and low lift flow...

Great Job! It’s definitely not slow, and I think that’s very doable. What was your temperature and humidity?

    Interesting intake on Facebook tonight

I still really haven’t seen the plenum with good lighting. PM’d you some, my example is pretty grungy midway through stripping what looks to be coating off of it.

    Interesting intake on Facebook tonight

It’s a direct copy of a Weiand 7545 Xcellerator or early 7510, but with provisions for EGR.

It happens fast, doesn't it? It's good to see you're continuing to work and learn with what you've been doing there! These Big Chevy rotator eliminators could possibly be made into some valve spring cups. Chev BB Exhaust Rotator Eliminators, 1.732" O.D., 1.568 Spring O.D., .623" Spring I.D...

Trying to make this maintenance work easier

I have that box next to my chair in the living room. It's mostly filled with my electrical and hose and tubing tools and supplies, but the top has turned into a catch-all of sorts. Unfortunately, even with all of my other boxes and utility carts, most of my tools stay in a "Everything in its...

    checking rear end housing straightness

Like the 7-1/4, the spiders are the weak link. But, being a dirt circle track car, use a mini spool in it, and 4.56 gears are available. I can't imagine it being weaker than the 7-1/4 axle with welded spiders...

    checking rear end housing straightness

If the axle is out of the vehicle, put it on a pair of jack stands on a level garage floor. Mark the tubes at three evenly spaced intervals and measure at from the bottom of the tubes to the floor. Use another jack stand to hold the center section at the pinion and rotate the center section 90...

    Pinion depth setting

    I caint deny that! :rofl::rofl::rofl:
  18. Garrett Ellison

    Pinion depth setting

It’s the hypoid angle combined with the bevel angle of the ring gear. That whole dynamic changes tolerance allowance down to less than .005 of an inch. Pretty well turns it into a game of “its right!” vs. “every other possible setting away from correct.”
  19. Garrett Ellison

    Pinion depth setting

Yes, you can use a piece of precision ground flat stock and a depth micrometer. Instructions start at 33:05.

    Front end rebuild 1972 Duster

Just out of curiosity because of some experiences I've heard with the urethane, how has the long term durabilty of urethane strut rod bushings compared to the factory rubber that you replaced them with in your charger? I've figured said issues were probably a side effect of another problem with...

    Slightly damaged head gasket

Mopar performance carried either those same or very similar head gaskets under their own part number. I know that with freshly surfaced heads and a reasonably straight and very clean deck, the set I seen required a retorque after adding coolant because they started seeping a little before fire...

    741 open case v 7 1/4 LSD

8-3/4… For So Many Reasons! Look at the 2 inch axle tube size into the center section for starters, and then go from there. Just the spindly size of the housing with tubes by itself would scare me far away from the 7-1/4, much less my personal experience in breaking them. And with nowhere near...

    440 head gasket question.

That would run safely on 87 (or even worse, if it’s available) octane.

    440 head gasket question.

I’ve once read “somewhere” that the extra holes were added to prevent steam pockets in heavy duty / industrial applications. I’m thinking that the head gaskets still only had a fractional sized hole (1/8 or 3/16, IIRC) to allow for said steam to go into the head. I’m guessing they were sized on...

@toolmanmike Please Verify... I'm not aware of the four barrel 273 using anything other than an AFB, and I'm finding the rating is somewhere in the 535 CFM range.
