1966 Factory V8 Valiant Signet Restoration For My Other Daughter

Are you going to run stock exhaust manifolds? I'm not sure what aluminum heads you have there, but somewhere on FABO another member had to grind some material off of the driver side head to get the manifold to fit. I hope you don't have problems with that. You may want to mock it up to see if it...

What's the story on that 67/68 Fury in the garage?

Will I need to re-ring my pistons?

    Good point. Thank you.

Will I need to re-ring my pistons?

Will do. Thanks again FABO brothers!

Will I need to re-ring my pistons?

Thanks for the replies. I have read that misting water from a spray bottle down the carb will "steam clean" the valves. I may give that a try and get some new seals on them. Will pull that PCV and make sure it is still in good working order. True, oil is cheaper than a rebuild, but that carbon...

Will I need to re-ring my pistons?

Probably Canadian built. The VIN and fender tag read polysphere 318. Dad bought this car back in '77. Engine is "assumed" to be original to the car. Pistons are stock replacement .040. Valve seals are umbrella style that came with OEM gasket set. PCV is original '60's Mopar and in good...

Will I need to re-ring my pistons?

    Always somethin'!

Will I need to re-ring my pistons?

Yep, engine is original to the car. I agree, heads off, halfway home. It's getting pulled and torn down. No sense in doing all that work to find problems somewhere else. Not really what I wanted to hear, but it makes the most sense. Thanks for chiming in. How's that Valiant coming along?

Will I need to re-ring my pistons?

Does not leak or "use" coolant. I do have to add oil fairly regularly.

Will I need to re-ring my pistons?

No. It is definitely oil smoke.

Will I need to re-ring my pistons?

Yes, moly rings. I misspoke. I don't take you for an ***. You seem to know what you're talking about, and from what I've seen, you give sound advice and pull no punches.

Will I need to re-ring my pistons?

I really don't remember. I think they were chromolly. Don't recall brand. Bearings were Clevite. I think it was all ordered as a kit, but not absolutely sure.

Will I need to re-ring my pistons?

Thanks for the reply. I'll update at a later time. Not sure when I'll get out there and pull them.

Will I need to re-ring my pistons?

Not sure what you mean. I did the assembly myself. I cleaned everything thoroughly when I got it all home. This was about fifteen years ago. Engine runs well, just smokes and has the carbon build up.

Will I need to re-ring my pistons?

I have a poly 318 in a '67 Fury. The engine was rebuilt about 42,000 miles ago. When I had the heads done, I told the machine shop SPECIFICALLY that I did not want knurled valve guides, I want guide inserts. A while back, I had to pull the intake because of a vacuum leak. While it was apart, I...

    Need help with trim pieces

Top two photos are rear seat corner trim for '64-'66 Barracuda. Stainless boomerang pieces are outside trim around rear quarter glass for '64-'66 Barracuda. Stamped steel pieces are inside rear quarter glass trim '64-'66 Barracuda.

    66 Formula S project

So here we are about a year later. Got the quarter sectioned in and welded. I still have some metal finishing to do here and a few small pin-holes to weld shut. Next up will be epoxy primer and a skim coat of filler. I can tell the filler will be very minimal by the way the metal finishing is...

Quarter panels, let's cut em off and put new ones on.

Mine had rust at the lower rear, and severe dent damage up top. Quarters are hard to find for '66 Valiant and Barracudas. Luckily, another FABO member parted one out and I bought the section I needed to repair mine. This is just mocked up for now. I will trim the section to fit the existing...

    1965 barracuda trunk floor

This is my '66 Barracuda with the spare tire well from a '68 Valiant. I only used the tire well, not the entire floor. Fuel tank fits without issue.

A few shots of the trunk extension. Some of these are not updated up to the minute, but you get the idea. If I keep at it, I may have a car built in my lifetime! If the women don't find you handsome, they'll at least find you handy!

Here are some shots of the quarter section. I also had to make sure the wheel lip was right so the trim would fit.

    66 Formula S project

WOW! I guess it's past due time to dust the cobwebs off this thread! I have gotten out to the shop a few times over the past couple months. Here's what's on deck... I sourced the quarter panel section I needed from another FABO member, repaired a little bit of rust on the bottom, redid the wheel...

    '65 Barracuda 'S' rear springs

An extra leaf will stiffen the ride, but the arch is what will raise the rear. 1" or 2" over stock will get you there. I can't tell you how high either will go, though.

    Vote for number 29!

My '67 Fury has a chance at getting into a 2019 calendar that my local rock station puts together every year. My car made the top 45, now it's up to popular vote for the final twelve. The voting ends on June 22nd. If you are inclined to help me get in, here is the link. You can vote for ten...

    Need parts shopping advise

Thanks. Just got off the phone with Dr. Diff. The consensus is, the case is not the issue. The carrier break is what matters. Get the right carrier for the gears and the whole works will fit in the case.

    Need parts shopping advise

Thank you. I have a lead on an 8-1/4 that will work if my current plan falls through.

    Need parts shopping advise

WOW! Just went through the entire 8-1/4 thread. Looks like my case will work with a different carrier. I called the tech line at Randy's Ring and Pinion, and the tech guy said the case will accept a different carrier for the gears I want. The tech at IWE confirmed this as well. The carrier...
