Getting back to my roots... building a 1972 Duster to 'dream spec'

Well, that nostalgia hit me hard in the gut again. Last night I finally got the slant six pulled (had to get a heater for the garage, it's that time of year). And gosh I like this little block. A new Hemi would be so quick and easy but a slant six turbo would be so cool. Couldn't sleep and...

Getting back to my roots... building a 1972 Duster to 'dream spec'

Hello all, This first post is going to be text heavy but the story of this car is pretty relevant. Feel free to skim it and check the pictures. I come from a line of car guys. My grandfather started importing Bugattis into the US in the '50s and my father has been a wrencher and tinkerer...

4 Weld Series 78 5x4" racing rims on eBay

Nope. Near as I can tell they didn't come with any, at least no mention in the catalog entry. Feel free to PM me to talk deals.

4 Weld Series 78 5x4" racing rims on eBay

$1200 is basically the OEM price. I have an offer from someone through private sale so the reserve is set at that. It does seem steep but I feel they're worth it. You're right about 16" though.

4 Weld Series 78 5x4" racing rims on eBay

Hey everyone, So I posted looking for some information about these rims a few weeks back. I wound up getting in touch with Weld and they looked them up for me. They're a road racing rim, a kind of squared off version of an aluma star that I think looks much nicer. If you have any questions...

Can anyone ID these 5x4" Weld rims?

I am indeed. They belong to my race team, we're looking to sell some parts off to fund another project. I would be super tempted to buy them for my Duster but that would be a horrible idea for a college student who can barely keep running rigs on the road :) If I can't find any info on them in...

Can anyone ID these 5x4" Weld rims?

So I have these old Weld rims that I can't seem to find any info on. Since they're a Mopar small pattern I thought someone here might have come across them before. They're 17" rims with a 2.87" center. They look similar to an Aluma Star but the spokes are more squared off and the recessed area...

Like a bad ballast resistor... but not.

yeah, I wound up just wiring past the ignition switch with a toggle that's currently hung on my shifter :) so it's somewhere in the ignition switch or wiring, I have a spare switch at home. 70aarcuda, did you get new bulkhead connectors? or just clean up your old ones?

Like a bad ballast resistor... but not.

Yeah, I got one of those. I'm just at college right now, don't have all my tools with me. Has anyone had an ignition relay (the component mounted to the inner fender well right behind the battery) go bad?

Like a bad ballast resistor... but not.

Don't have one with me, but I can find one. I've never had an ignition switch go bad, though.

Like a bad ballast resistor... but not.

My 1972 Plymouth Duster, slant six 225, is acting like it has a bad ballast resistor. I turn the key, it turns over and wants to run, but as soon as I turn it back it dies. So I replace the ballast resistor, because that's what it sounds like, but it keeps doing the same thing. Shorting across...

    what the HAY! sunroof?

How difficult is it to install a metal sunroof in a non sunroof car? Are they easy to get hold of or far too rare?

I used White guages Duster dash decal

I was thinking about doing a stock gauge cluster except with real wood backing and white gauges and black lettering. The plan was to lay a piece of wood in over the faux wood with an adhesive or nice looking brass bolts. The white gauges would be relatively easy, you'd just have to take off the...

    Duster Lower Quarter Pics

I'm planning on getting started on this project soon for my 72, now that I have access to a machine shop and my car on hand. I was planning on making templates off of the good side of my car. I was just going to build a rack of vertical cardboard sheets, parallel to each other and set a fixed...

    help

I managed to do the vents in my 72 Duster by laying on the seat and reaching up under the dash. It was an absolute pain, I could barely reach them and get a screwdriver in there, but it is possible. You just have to get the ducts off first, hopefully without tearing them.

Mope nuts in the Albany area?

Hey all, Since I introduced myself last year, I've enrolled in Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. I was wondering if there were any Mopar fans in the Albany/Troy area? I'd just like to start networking, sharing resources, etc. -x PS Lemme know if there's a better category for this thread.

    500 Hp Slant 6

I've heard of a naturally aspirated six getting 1hp per cubic inch plus with a long run ram manifold. Here's a link to the article. http://www.moparmusclemagazine.com/projectbuild/155_0304_1962_plymouth_valiant_slant_six/photo_01.html There's also an article on fuel injecting a slant six on...

    Duster lower rear fender patches

As I'm sure is the case with many of the other Dusters, both of mine have rust patches on the corners of the rear wheel wells. On both of my cars, the rust patches are no larger than my two hands, so it seems silly to find new quarters for it and patch them on. Has anyone heard of aftermarket...

    Duster guy in VT

Hey all, I'm a 'young gun' from Vermont with two Dusters. My first Duster (and first car) is a 72, the 'granny Duster'. It's got a slant six (225) and a three on the tree. My father purchased the car many years ago to pull the engine. The frame rail was missing from the upper control arm mount...
