    340 with edelbrock heads overheating

This thread - I read as much as I could stand - is full of the usual bad ideas. In those pics, I don't see any sign the valves were hitting the pistons. Maybe they were, but it doesn't look like it. And of course, even if they were it would have nothing to do with overheating. Do people...

    How should my duster handle

I actually do agree...people who turn the steering wheel without the car rolling are poor drivers. These are the same people who have cars that break and/or require repairs....my cars never, ever break. I've also never worn out a set of brake pads in under 100K miles. As for the idea that...

    1980's brake system disc/drum

    Thanks, I'll investigate that.

    How should my duster handle

I certainly don't care what someone does to their car...but I do think too many people seek to modify their car to the point where it no longer even represents what a classic Mopar is. The big, thin steering wheels of the 60's, and the properly assisted steering, is part of the character of the...

    How should my duster handle

I get all that, but we're not talking about cars that are fighting for pole position at Indy. The average 55 year old Mopar does very little but cruise around town and the occasional highway trip. Few people need their A Body to drive (and have the miserable ride) like a 2023 Corvette. This...

    How should my duster handle

I never understood why people would want power steering that is hard to turn...the one finger steering is where it's at. I don't want to 'feel' the road. It's not a boob. When I changed my original PS pump (Federal) to a Saginaw, I instantly noticed an increase in steering effort. Still...

    Front suspension experimentation

Yes, the arms travel up/down very smoothly and easily....that's one reason I used them as I knew I would be doing a lot of alignments and with bushings it's sometimes tough to get good repeatability. Yes, I had to trim the mount bracket a little....if someone is opposed to this, the arms can...

    Front suspension experimentation

Yes, the Wilwood kit is made for the 9" spindles. In 40+ years of driving these cars I have never seen one break. We used to off-road the old 65 Barracuda back before using trucks became popular....hit bunches of potholes, etc. Never had an issue. But now that you've said it....it'll probably...

    Front suspension experimentation

I found a good deal on a Wilwood disc kit for the 68 Valiant....so the trusty 9" drums had to go. While I had the car apart for that, I decided to also rebuild the front end as it was the all-original 55 year old pieces....still working well. With all the talk about caster, I decided to make...

Anyone building this transmission stand? "Nick Garage"

I made those 20 years ago....plus even (way) better the TransLift. This is a device that allows you to work on a transmission at various heights, not a device for picking up men who think they are women. With the TransLift, you can load and unload the trans from the jack, and you can work on 4...

    Brake System light revisited

There's always the possibility the block is faulty...poorly machined or debris left in it. On any mass produced part, a certain percentage will have flaws. I'm guessing, too, that these are made in China which doesn't help matters.

    Brake System light revisited

I used to buy stainless lines...then one I day I realized they were one of those 'upgrades' in the hot rodding world that is actually a downgrade. Yes, they will last forever (assuming that today's SS which is probably made in China is actually to spec). But other than that, they are...

    Brake System light revisited

Because the system is once again in balance. The front brake pressure is zero and so it the rear (or very close to it). The reason the light comes on when you apply the front line lock is there is imbalance - the front lines have pressure and the rear have none.

    Brake System light revisited

I do see the point. But I also noted that the factory manual notes there is no need to keep the piston centered.

    Brake System light revisited

That tool is a cap screw with the end machined a little lol. Notice that is says it only keeps the piston centered but does not center it. But the centering of the valve doesn't affect normal bleeding...only if you are using a pressure bleed system.

    Brake System light revisited

No, they are two different functions. The hold-off valve allows the rear brakes to apply first - the idea is that while discs apply directly, the drums must first overcome the resistance of the return springs and move the shoes out a little before any braking happens. So, the hold-off valve is...

    Brake System light revisited

The piston does self center when the pressure is the equal on both sides...which it will be if the brake system is not experiencing any problems. As for the drawing that shows the added valve as a 'proportioning valve', that is interesting as B Bodies have the same valve and it's called a...

    Brake System light revisited

If he pulls the wire off, that's a guarantee the light won't work but it doesn't answer his question. The fact that the piston DOES center when you apply pressure shows it is working properly in that regard. But why it is moving off center when you release pressure is the mystery. (You didn't...

    1980's brake system disc/drum

No. Cylinders are regular. My guess is the slop-mess of valves and pistons in the prop valve are enough to provide residual pressure...but that's not founded in anything.

    1980's brake system disc/drum

The aluminum master cylinder from the late 70's onward is used on lots of older Mopars. In looking at the factory manual (1983 Chrysler), the brake system (disc/drum) uses a single proportioning valve/distribution block/hold-off valve assembly as pictured. So here's my question....where is the...

    Drag strips closing in US...

Drag racing has been dead (for me) for some time. The tracks are far and few between, and more are closing with essentially none opening. Then....the scene has gotten over run with scumbags. Dopers, black t shirts, and all sorts of losers. It doesn't help that almost all my friends who used...

Has anyone tried Blue Devil Rear Main Seal Stop Leak?

I believe all of those miracles in a can are just snake oil. That's why I rely on 2 cups of oatmeal to fix any leak...it's what the true professionals rely on. None of that maple and brown sugar crap either - just plain oatmeal with a few raisins if you must.

    T56 Trane mods

You could use a QuickTime bellhousing, modified, to connect it to a Slant Six. As noted above, the T56 is somewhat of a mess when it comes to ratios. For most vehicles, the 6th gear is just too tall. On a Slant Six car....I think it would be unusable. The best ratios came in the Hellcat...

    R3W7 Assembly

Thanks all. I'll post a pic of the baffling once I get them. It's a simple shield, basically. I actually don't recall what I paid* but it was under $500 and more than $300. Cheap, no, but not bad either for custom built, American made parts. *Mark is very 'in demand' and works 12...

    R3W7 Assembly

Long time, little progress. But....the Gerst suspension (and Wildwood brakes) arrived and the Winchester valve covers shipped to me today. So, the time is approaching that I start making some headway again. Mark Winchester in CA fabbed these covers to my specs...he is a one man operation...

    stolen 8 3/4 third member

I should add that the UPS has an internal policy that applies to all lost/damaged claims. Do you know what the #1 step is? Deny the claim. That's right, without reviewing anything they are instructed to deny the claim. Only if the shipper protests the claim rejection will they begin to...

I sold a 4 speed setup for a C Body and FedEx lost every piece of it. This was every single unique part from a 4 speed Fury except the gearbox. The box arrived, empty. Keep in mind, I had double box and very carefully packed it all, with labels on every piece. Just gone forever. One of my...

Synthetic Oil - good or bad?

It's appalling how liberals have people running scared and accepting the 'fact' that they should be ashamed of being alive. It's the result of formal education run amok. Too many useless people with too much free time on their hands. Too many people who no longer have to work for a...
