    Miles/gallon: Newer vs Older Cars

My 71 Sebring with a rebuilt stock 318/factory 2 bbl, 904 and 2.7ish:1 rear grears got 22mpg when moved from Seattle to San Fran down I5 keeping with the flow of traffic. The overdrive is the #1 improvement. Either run stupid 2 something gears, or get good acceleration and have an overdrive...

Jeep Wrangler 75th Salute Concept Rolls Off Line at Toledo Assembly Complex

I like how he said they are just going to keep it. Well duh! As it can't pass for any sort of legal 2016 new vehicle standards, without just being a green paint job. It sucks to be a manufacturer, only private citizens are allowed to make what they want. They should sell even a more stripped...

    Isn't 'Cuda a model, not a nickname?

I saw a lot of people missed it as pointed out early on. Mopar didn't invent the 'Cuda name, the people did. They applied that name to Barracudas long before Mopar ever stuck the name on a fender. So true the first 'Cuda badge ever put on a car and trademarked was the 69 model. That doesn't mean...

    2003 Dodge Ram 4.7 liter

My daughter had one in a Jeep Grand Cherokee with a bunch of miles (150Kish miles) but they didn't keep it more then 2 years. They didn't have any problems. A friend who works for the best engine machine shop around says stay away from them. They got a big power boost in 2008 so if I did get one...

    Dodge trying to shoehorn again.

We can get 30 mpg with the 3.6 in our minivan at 65-70mph. We had a whole tank of 28.5 mpg hand calculated from Missoula Montana to Seattle which is 3 mountain passes. It is a great motor. I can't wait to see how it does in the new 2017's with 9 speeds, better aerodynamics, and 300 less pounds...

Whats the best time for a factory stock duster 1/4 miles ??

I think it is safe to say after all these posts the best 340 pure stock, tires, distributor advance, carb, old style factory tires, everything is in the 14's. Just modern tires and a good tune should put it in the 13's but that's not exactly showroom stock.

Can you build a whole car from aftermarket repop parts?

I remember checking prices on a crate 5.7 Hemi in 2003 when they came out and figured it would be less expensive to just buy a stripper new 2wd 5.7 Ram for $15,000 after rebates, take the motor, and sell off all the parts as new takeoffs. Probably would have ended up with almost a free motor.

Interesting VIN number on 68 Barracuda

At what point is the car still the same car as relation to the VIN? Say it wasn't just the dash that was swapped but the front end was drilled and the whole subframe swapped. Along with the doors, fenders, motor, transmission, interior, axle, K frame, 1/4 panels, etc. What VIN belongs with the...

    2015 Challenger bolt pattern

I have even heard it is different on the AWD compared to the RWD. Personally I say 5x115 is the same as 5x4.5, just a rounding error. That .7 mm difference is in diameter which translates into .35mm at the lug. Go look at a mm on a ruler and then cut it into 1/3 of that and tell me that makes a...

Show me one restored 70 barracuda convertible for $30,000 or under. Ads from 1980 don't count, neither do Craigslist ads from North Dakota with palm trees in the background.

I though I was seeing double

Funny those questioning the VIN. What do you think it was a 440-6 car they are trying to pass off as a 318? E body is the most collectible Mopar by far. Convertible E body 70 and 71 only the best of the best. They remake all the parts someday Dynacorn will remake the bodies, then rusty old...

    RockAuto Problems

Napa is the overpriced store. Their stuff is just reboxed and marked up. You can buy the cheep stuff at rockauto our you can scroll down the list and buy the quality stuff and it still will be less then most places. Rear tire width requirements in relation to HP?

Physics wise the friction doesn't change a bit because of the size of the contact patch. Real world, the wider and especially taller tire will help as it deals with imperfections in the road and heat better then the skinny tire. Most likely it's the compound on the skinny tire that isn't as good...

Long term planning, father/daughter first car build

I've got 2 daughters also. One grown, married, and about to be a parent herself. The other is 10. Neither has had much of an interest in cars, especially older ones. If my 10 year old wanted we would build something, but I would let her pick what she likes. As much as we want our kids to love a...

This 71 Cuda has been sitting out all winter.

I was wondering, and it looks more magenta then pink, but people always mess up the FM3. I think maybe somebody is going to "fix" it. I think the bumpers are painted not the rubber coated, and the windows have a cheep tint job. The rear spoiler looks like a AAR style. The property, although a...

This 71 Cuda has been sitting out all winter.

So my dream car has always been a 1971 Cuda. If I had one even 1/4 this nice it wouldn't sit out in the yard all Montana winter. I have seen this thing sitting here for the last couple months. At first I thought it was for sale but there is no signs or local ads for it. If it's a real FM3 with...

    Mopars At Mecum

I think the prices look like they are coming down, at least in the more normal stuff but even Hemi convertable E bodies are still off their highs. It used to be a nice new car was $25,000 and a nice restored 68 Roadrunner was $50,000. Now a nice new car is $35,000 and the Roadrunner is still...

EPA Seeks to Prohibit Conversion of Vehicles into Racecars

Thank the founders there is a 2nd amendment or they would have been long gone. Some founding fathers didn't want to do any of the bill of rights. Their opinion was, hey the authority of the federal government was already clearly defined, Post office, coining money, running the military, etc. and...

EPA Seeks to Prohibit Conversion of Vehicles into Racecars

The big change in the law is that even where they do strict emissions testing like California you can have a race car without plates that you trailer to and from the track that doesn't apply to the testing/modification rules. Now you couldn't do that, or similarly build a total off-road buggy...

    Prius the new Vanishing Point?

Did you catch that super bowl ad of the Prius as a getaway car and a cross country police chase? They then make a Prius cop car and have the line, "it takes a Prius to catch a Prius." Sit down Toyota, it's already been done. It was one of the only decient ad in the game but only because it gave...

    Feather Duster Dart Lite Thread

About 6 years ago there was a 318 auto Feather duster for sale by here. I wanted it but was in the middle of my Barracuda build so I passed. Also I thought the auto was what was dumb on the feather duster package. You think a 318 defeats the purpose of good gas mileage, the auto without...

    What happened, Corvette?

They never built and sold a LS6 or LS7 Corvette in 1970. In 1971 they sold a few LS6 cars but they were rated 425hp with a lower rise intake and lower compression then the Chevelle LS6 of 1970. Similar they didn't actually build and sell any 1971 Chevelle LS6s. There were rumors of LS6 Monte...

    Craigslist Ad Old-Military-Truck-Rare?

I love how people define east and west. Yakima is about dead center in Washington state east to west. It's like Californians calling San Francisco "northern" California when it's equal distance north or south. There is another choice for this kind of place, central. No central California is...

The Plymouth Prowler Was Secretly Chrysler's Most Important Engineering Experiment

They sold 11702 prowlers in 5 years, that's 2,300 a year average. That beats the Viper's average. Makes your point as to limited market but must be a bigger market then the Viper. The Hellcat at over 7,000 in it's first year and double that planned for this year shows what a special market...
