    Lets see your cars.........

They only made 457 1967 GTS 383 Dodge Darts and 229 4 speeds which is what I have. Also Mr. Norm is the why a 383 got into a 67 Dart. Dodge told him the engineers said it wouldn't fit and he had a mechanic put on in a 67 Dart, told Dodge and they wanted to see it so he drove it there to show them.

    Homemade gauge test tool, C-3826

Hello. I was working on trying to get my fuel gauge working correctly since the new ones you get at the parts store I put in some time ago are linear. Found two original fuel sending units and bought them. One looked in good shape kept that one and sent the other one to a place that rebuilds...

Wheel date code. Tell me if I am reading this correctly??

I was trying to read the date code on the wheel of my 1967 GTS Dart. What I found was: MI___1__(valve hole)__X__55 7 What does this mean?

Trouble starting up 67 GTS Dart After winter storage.

Thanks for all the input. Check with engine builder that rebuilt the 383 engine about how to setup distributor on stopped engine. He said to put the engine at top dead center then align the distributor for cylinder 1. I used my 3/4 drive wrachet to turn the engine to set it at TDC then...

What's the gap supposed to be? Thanks

Trouble starting up 67 GTS Dart After winter storage.

I thought I'd try the same thing I did last year taking it out of storage after 6 months. I pulled the distributor and shaft. Put in the rod to run the oil pump to prime the engine before I started it. Worked ok last year but this year the car barely ran and rough. Check to make sure the...

    Fuel tank sending unit

The sending unit came today from Classic Industries. Did a quick check on ohms from each stop on the float travel. Range is 7.2 to 68.5. The old one that came out on the last replacement is 77 to 10. According to a post here the OEM should be 10 to 63.5 . Don't know what the range is on...

    Fuel tank sending unit

Hard to see in the sending unit hole with other items of the car in the way. Haven't received the Classic Industries one yet. I will post back on how it works related to amount of fuel the tank takes compared to the gauge reading. The current one in the tank reading 1/4 tank takes 8 gallons...

    Fuel tank sending unit

Lately I replaced the sending unit since gauge was not registering very accurately. Current replacement not any better so I ordered on from Classic Industries that is suppose to be made to match OEM specs. Question about the filter on the pickup tube. I was having trouble getting the old one...

    Total advance question

I got a scope and listened around. No definite location but seemed to be from lifter area. Changed oil in September noise is gone. Think it was a lifter. Before I change the oil for storage I was thinking about putting in some lifter cleaner figure it couldn't hurt. Not old lifters but I...

Suggestion for finding correct instrument voltage limiter for 67 Dart

I was testing the voltage by disconnecting the gas tank sending unit wire. Old instrument panel voltage regulator turns on and off to control the voltage. Didn't know that. I ordered the one from Year One like other replacements that are constant voltage. It fit with some minor adjustments...

    Roof brace question

Thanks for the input. Will require removing the headliner to access it. It's the original headliner so it will have to be replaced since it will not survive removal. I could remove it but probably need to hire some to install the replacement.

    Roof brace question

Has anyone had the roof brace to the roof bond break such that it makes noise on bumps? Years ago I ran over some of those big groves they had in the road before toll booths and after that the brace on the passenger half would make noise on bumps. I know it's that because if I push on it with...

Suggestion for finding correct instrument voltage limiter for 67 Dart

I had also move the instrument voltage limiter in it's connections and the plug on the circuit board to possibly help any questionable connection.

Suggestion for finding correct instrument voltage limiter for 67 Dart

Thanks for the suggestions. When things would start acting strange on the fuel and temp gauges the amp meter would be at the max. I replaced the regulator for the charging system and went for a 20 mile test ride. Now I'm not seeing things acting unusual. Amp meter not maxing out, fuel gauge...

    Oil change for winter question?

My theory has been to change it before I store it so all the additives in the oil are at the max since it's stored for months. A good way to find out if your current procedure makes sense is do an oil analysis to see if you should be changing it more often. Vintage engines don't run as clean...

Suggestion for finding correct instrument voltage limiter for 67 Dart

By the way the gauges are sometimes acting strange I suspect the voltage limiter. Looks like I had replaced it years ago and the replacement didn't fit exactly so you can see I had to do the ground differently. Looking at Classic Industries and Year one they both don't match the plug in slots...

    Engine noise in 383

If one was punch through it would be not running smooth. That condition was what was wrong with the car when I bought it when I was 19 and it was 1.5 years old. Guy selling it probably thought he broke the engine and was selling it cheap. Turned out to be push rod thru a rocker. When I had...

    Engine noise in 383

Haven't pulled the valve cover when hot but did when cold and checked torque on the rocker arm shaft mounting bolts. Didn't see anything unusual. Did try wiggling the rockers. Earlier this summer I installed all new rockers and shaft on that side. Haven't done other side yet. Did it because...

    Engine noise in 383

I have this noise that just started. It's a high pitched clicking noise like I haven't heard before at idle. It's coming out of the driver's side valve cover breather. If you cover up the breather with your hands you don't hear it. It starts after the engine starts to warm up. Cold the...

    Total advance question

Only noise I have heard started in the past few days and only at idle after the engine starts to warm up not when cold. A strange high frequency noise that very short in duration but regular and goes away when you increase rpms above idle. Noise comes out the breather cap. If you cover up the...

    Total advance question

Ok I unhooked the vacuum and got the engine up to 2300rpm and I was reading 38 degrees advance. Wonder what the specs are on this distributor for mechanical and vacuum advance since it's not the stock one.

Distributor was new when installed many years ago. I used an old style induction connection light. I should also have one that connects to #1.

    Total advance question

Sounds about right. Parts manager friend suggested the upgrade kit not too many years after I got the car when it was 1.5 years old. Had to replace the module a number of years ago but distributor is the same. Pretty old maybe need a replacement?

    Total advance question

I haven't heard any knocking while driving. I did check the total advance with the vacuum attached. Service manual mechanical advance spec for 1967 Dodge 383 four barrel stick was @ 2400 rpm. On the distributor top number is 22 4 and the long bottom number on the tag is 3690431. Metal tag...

    Total advance question

Correction: 1967 4 barrel with manual or auto trans without clean air package. According to 1967 service manual vacuum is 8.25-11 degrees and mechanical is 7-9 degrees @ 2400rpm. Old points distributor. Initial timing spec is 12.5. Total looked high. Something wrong with distributer advance?

    Total advance question

I was curious and checked the total advance on my 67 383 that has the mopar electronic ignition conversion kit that was installed many years ago. At no load and 2400 rpms it was 55 degrees. I'm using one of those tapes you install on the damper. Also what engine damage results from too much...

How much space is required between fan tips and shroud?

Thanks. I think I'll forget the shroud. Usually only gets to the middle of the marked operating range of the temp gauge when sitting at light in summer. When driving with 180 thermostat it's at the bottom of that range. No temp number on stock gauge.

How much space is required between fan tips and shroud?

I was trying to install a shroud on my stock radiator in my 67 GTS. Didn't come with a shroud. For years I have run a 18" stainless flex fan. It does heat up some when you are at a light in summer. Lately I added water wetter which helped some. Thought a shroud would help more so I found a...
