    Clutch Pedal Return

Thread hijack opportunity-I don't suppose anyone has that wire link kicking around that they could get a measurement from? Mine's missing and it looks like I'm making one.

Driveshaft orientation, '72 Duster 4 speed

Thanks for the input gents. I measured the width of the ends and they're the same, around 2.9 inches so that's not an issue. I'll go with it to the rear. And that whole dropping a driveshaft isn't unknown here. Had it happen in a '73 Challenger at the transmission and while it was only "city...

Driveshaft orientation, '72 Duster 4 speed

Pics are from my references and I have no idea who to credit them to. Step to the front: Step to the back: I don't know if it actually matters but if it does I'd like to get it right the first time.

Driveshaft orientation, '72 Duster 4 speed

Hey all, The driveshaft I saved for my '72 Duster has a 'step' in it like you would see where a pipe is slipped into a larger pipe. Which way does that step go, toward the transmission or the axle? I'm about to put the new U joints in it and I'd like to get it right the first time. And a google...

1972 Duster, 340/4, black on black (the endgame)

Motor's in: Pretty sure that engine bay has been empty since 1984. Also been awhile since I flew solo on an engine drop but hell yeah I still got it :D Sits higher than I thought it would even tho the mounts are all the way down in the frame so I'll be looking for a low profile air cleaner...

HELP NEEDED WITH A DASH FRAME INSTALLATION

Same here. Put a '68 Barracuda dash frame (with extra holes welded shut, etc.) in my '72 Duster and the bottom sat so low on both sides I had to get a bottle jack in there and jack it up with all the top bolts tight. Worked fine. My thought was sandblasting it caused it to distort but it was...

1972 Duster, 340/4, black on black (the endgame)

Not quite in yet but it's back and bolted together and all I need is oil for the transmission. Should be in Sunday night  The fella who did the cam break-in says it maintains 80psi oil pressure @ 2200 RPM, runs strong and has a nice lope.

    Sad

The sad thing is it looks like it was someone's project car at one time and they never got the new floor in it.

1972 Duster, 340/4, black on black (the endgame)

New year and time for an update here. The seats are redone and in: I started with the front buckets. The upholstery showed up on a Friday and I though it would make a fine weekend project. It took six weeks... For a refresher I bought the seats on ebay advertised as from a '72 Charger...

    First car show -- advice??

I went to Hot August Nights in Reno some years ago and there were 2 cars that caught my eye. One was at the swap meet grounds; a '62ish Ford Falcon with a small block V8 and a clutch, and cheap too: The other was in a parking lot at one of the casinos and I didn't get a pic. Of all the high...

    Revel chrome paint

Most forms of silver aren't. In my experience a lot of it turns shiny gray.

    Revel chrome paint

I picked up a Molotow Liquid Chrome pen for scale modeling and found the experience to be hit or miss. It has a bad habit of the tip either drying up and not replenishing or coming out in an irritating blob. I'd certainly try it if I needed to but I'd be super careful.

Quick question for the Brain Trust re: A833 countershaft interchange

Thanks for that and not surprised. This is the third time in the past 2 weeks I've ordered from them and had I saw this coming I could've saved a bit on shipping, I think.

Quick question for the Brain Trust re: A833 countershaft interchange

Hey all, It's that time in my '72 Duster project when the transmission gets new bearings & seals. Of course, in taking it apart dumbass broke the key out of the end of the shaft :BangHead: Application is a A833 OD iron case from a '76 Scamp. The ones I've found so far state they fit up to...

    How long should it take?

That's a pretty decent price. I've come to find over the years it takes 3 times as long to get something done I've farmed out as it was quoted and I don't count on seeing it until it's been 4 times as long. Plan ahead...

AMD MAY still be making A Body sheet metal

Yeah, it was this time last year they contacted me to tell me the fenders for my Duster that I pre-ordered months earlier were in and here's the bill. Dialed it back? Maybe. Stopped? Nope.

    Jute carpet padding

Mine wasn't terrible but the molded 4 speed hump has a bubble behind the hump and nothing I've done has taken it out, but rather started to melt the carpet. Gonna have to live with it I guess. Maybe I can stash stuff in the void :p They left a big fold in the jute on the piece they glued to...

    Seat Slider Question

That's curious-mine dropped right in. I had to move the studs to the forward-most holes so the seat would go back far enough but the tracks were a perfect fit.

    Charger bucket seat question.

How's the foam? Having just gone through this you might be better off reconditioning/repairing what you have than buying new.

Decent Deal? Anything stick out that should cause me to not make the trek?

A day trip to look at a car that matches your specs isn't entirely a waste. I spent 2 days traveling one way to buy a Lexus SC400 sight unseen seven years ago and still no regrets. In fact, after seven years as the summer ride I doubt there will ever be regrets. Could end up being a nice day out...

    Georgia, On My Mind.

Yup. Details like bushing styles may vary but it's essentially the same part. I tried the older longer sway bar with a pair of newer LCAs and they were way off.

    Georgia, On My Mind.

In 1973 they moved the sway bar tabs inboard. As a result the sway bar is shorter. edit: Pic of the '72 and older LCA, probably from ebay:

    WHAT GOES HERE?

Had to go to the shop and look at my '72 Duster 340 and it is indeed for a clutch pedal lockout switch which goes to the starter relay on the inner fender.

1972 Duster, 340/4, black on black (the endgame)

For all the years I've owned this car, all the '72s I've seen and all the research I've done I have never seen nor heard of one with a factory Rallye dash. All signs have pointed to no and I accepted that as the way it is. Not that it never happened; I just haven't found one. In fact, I don't...

1972 Duster, 340/4, black on black (the endgame)

Haven't posted an update here for a while, not for lack of work on it but because recent progress wasn't really photoworthy but enough stuff has come to fruition to justify a thread bump. Front seats are recovered and installed (temporarily). This car started life with a front bench which I...

    Paint gun for hobbiest?

Knew a guy who owned a shop in the same town I ran a shop in and he collected SATA limited edition spray guns. Had them hanging on the walls in the hallway between his office and mixing room. Had one he paid $4000 for. Never used it... Of all the guns I used over the years my go-to ended up...

Radiator support and grille upper support

Probably because there's nothing there. You might want to look for photos of '73-'76 because they don't have the tabs on the fenders and there must be a different way they mount that top piece. Were it me I'd get some fiberglass cloth and some epoxy and make the tabs...
