All done, 40 degree AC and killer heat full climate control.

Almost as entertaining as a boat ramp.

Sitting out front with my after breakfast coffee watching the neighbor down the street make dozens of tries at backing a trailer into his driveway. Cars backed up waiting for him to get out of the way. Could end up being his fourth DUI if the right car comes along. Jees, I need to go find...

    Warning about counterfeit parts

Warning about Speedmaster79, sold by Summit Racing.(and probably others) This guy seems to be mostly Ford, but I don’t think it matters. What I think really matters is that Summit Racing sells it. A Chinese rip off with the actual US builders name on it.

    AC installation update 4/12/2024

All buttoned up after the removal of the stereo, ashtray assembly, heater controls and glove box. I probably wouldn’t have had to remove all this, but I had some electrical sketchies that I wanted to deal with while I was in there anyway. The Classic Auto Air instructions said to remove the...

Classic Auto Air #2 4/5/2024 SUCCESS!!!

We have 40 degree AC now. Due to it being 50 degrees here and wind blowing it was a little tricky, but not because of the system. For one, it was slow taking coolant because of the ambient air temp, but other than that it went like one would expect of a functional system. Two, would be that it...

    Classic Auto Air update 4/5/2024

Third times a charm? We’ll see. First install was diagnosed by CAA as a stuck expansion valve. They sent a new valve, so I had to pull the unit under the dash to change the valve. After more gauge readings and jumpering the pressure switch, they determined the compressor was bad. They sent a...

This is what you don’t do to change lug patterns.

This helps a lot with wiring.

I have a small 110 heater I got for about 20 bucks at Walmart that I keep in the car. When it’s real cold/frozen out I plug it in and set it on the passenger side floor to warm up the interior before I go out to leave. Works great to not have to get in a freezing *** car and wait for the heater...

    Classic Auto Air update 3/28/2024

AC charge failure as system would not pressure up the hi pressure side. Unit comes back out to change the expansion valve. CAA sent a new expansion valve, and it made no difference. Now they say it’s a bad compressor, and to mail it back and they will send a replacement compressor after they get...

    My favorite dirt

As some of you know, until recently I was an avid dirt biker. I rode a 500cc four stroke Honda, and this is a trail I have ridden many times. About 8 min in will give you a good idea of what this trail is really like. One of my favorites, and it definitely keeps you in shape. Click on “watch on...

Another update on the AC install.

I got everything installed, and my control panel built. Pay no attention to the unpainted screws on the panel and the hose hanging down, as it all has to come back out. I hooked up the gauges and vacuum pump and let it vacuum down the system for 45 minutes, and let it sit over night to verify...

    Lucky Me!

And I am not bleeding anywhere. I always say that working in the dash of a Mopar is like shoving your hands in a box full of kitchen knives.

    65 Dart Charger

This car belongs to one our local Mopar group. He bought the car in 1977 and it now is on it’s third vinyl half top. It currently has a replacement 273, but he has the original motor. He wears a motor out, the swaps in the waiting rebuilt. The car currently has approximately 700k on it. 273, 10...

    A little progress today.

There we a couple of odd things about the compressor positioning, but nothing I couldn’t solve. Compressor, condenser and drier are in. Apparently this is different than it used to be, but no other belts or pulleys are involved. Crank pulley, compressor and idler, and it all installs in front of...

Frickin ad blocker blocker sucks butt.

Without the ad blocker the phone screen is just trashed. And don’t bother telling me to go gold to solve it. Paying to not have the screen all F’d up rubs me the wrong way. And I get it. Nobody cares.

    AC Came Today

Some time in the next day or so I will hook it all up on the table and test everything like they recommend. Then the fun begins. I’ll start with the compressor, evaporator /dryer and lower pulley install.

    AC system update

Well, the decision has been made. I will be going with the Classic Auto Air Perfect Fit Smart series system. (Ouch :D) Apparently the Vintage system has some drawbacks I don’t want to have to deal with. I will talk to them about a couple of details tomorrow. Not real happy about mounting vents...

    Which AC/heat system and why?

Looking to add an AC/heater system to a 73 Dart Swinger small block. Looking at Vintage Air and Classic Auto Air. Which would you recommend and why? Thanks

    Odd problem with battery drain.

One day I went to start the car and it cranked really slow. I had noticed one day about the same time my stereo was making a hissing noise even with it turned off. Turns out after using a test light between the battery positive and the cable and disconnecting things, that the memory power for...

    It’s about time.

I have had these ugly temporary battery terminals forever and finally decided to do something about it. Haven’t had any problems with them, just ugly. The ground cable was red but wrapped with black tape, so I made a new one with #2 rubber coated cable. The cables are now silver soldered into...

    Progressive Dynamics Intellipower?

Any of you ever used one of these units? These are most often used in RV’s for the 125 volt to 12 volt converter output and battery charging systems. Also, some use them for large sound systems and hydraulics when at shows. These things kick butt. Up to 80 amp output, and has battery charging...

    Poor self inflicted SOB.

So my neighbor has an early 80’s Olds that when he found out I have a welder asked if I would put hydraulics on his car for him. I told him it was way more complicated and involved than he thought it was, and I really didn’t have the time or resources for such a project. (Actually I really...

Shift NOW! Not sooner, Not later.

This is a short video of how I adjust my overdrive and lockup automatic shift points with adjustable pressure switches. Those relays on the firewall are what actually handles the electrical load. The adjustable switches tell the relays to close and ground the solenoids to make the shift.

Some bling for the Wife’s 72 dart.

We picked up this 72 Swinger some time back and it had some issues. It was immediately apparent that it had a valve train problem from the noises it was making in spite of the freshly cut off muffler to try and hide it. It was a completely stock 318 two barrel car with single exhaust. Sure...
