thanks so i really have to find out where my tdc is on the balancer and make new marks then.how exactly do you know your timing if you cant see the line behind the water pump housing? also does it hurt to keep advancing the timing at idle it seems the more i advance it the better it runs up...
i have a 68 340 that has some type of mopar cam in it. i also have a mallory distributor with mechanical advance. i tried to put the timing to about 6 btdc and it runs crappy.so i put it back to somewhere before 12 btdc as i cant see the mark behind the water pump. it seems the farther i...
they are suppose to work but,, you need .020 to .050 preload on the lifters to keep them from rattling.so i would not buy any pushrods until you measure what you need or you may have the same problem i had all winter.
after 5 monthes of this i finally fixed it. when i removed the original head gaskets i never measured them before tossing them.I assumed stock style gaskets should work .mistake 2.assuming felpro would make a stock thickness gasket for a stock kit, mistake 3, assuming anything at all mistake...
i still have the other pushrods that are 7.550 should i try it with these?is the preload the distance that the plunger actually moves down from the top? it should be in the .030 -.040 range when the cam is on the flat side of the lobe right?
its just that i wish i would have kept the original...
should the lifters all drain out after sitting a while or stay full?why would they make noise? to much clearance some where? or junk in the lifters? tks
i have the stock valve train which is what it had before i tore it apart,i was sure the felpro thick gaskets were the cause, which is why i put int he thin mopar.025 gaskets.its a hard lifter noise and it doesnt sound like one either.i think its hard to believe a cam could be bad from just...
any ideas, ive been trying to figure this out since about xmas,i put in new headgaskets on my 68 340 .i got the felpro 8553 ones.after starting it up it has terrible lifter noise ticking.the rockers seemed loose so i bought a pushrod checker and it said about 7.53 so i found some 7.550 and put...
stock heads,i moved rockers to other side and strted it still noise there,it seems like the noise is lifter area not really rockers oil comes out pretty good on driver side but pass side seems alot less. does anyone know how tight the pushrods should be when you shut it off and try to spin...
whats puzzling is this engine ran great until i changed head gaskets,i didnt measure the old ones i suspect they were the thin mopar kind.after i put it back together its been ticking like a few bad lifters.i bought a pushrod length checker and they werea bit short .0 preload about 7.520 so i...
i have been fighting this since i changed head gaskets,to the8553 new pushrods now, they are tight i have like 60 psi running but not much at the rockers ,i wanna see if i have oil at the rockers or not ,is a particcular shaft on 1 side or the other?
while it was running i didnt see much at all and it was still kinda of ticking like lifter noise on both heads.if i crank the motor over should it squirt out of the oil passage on each head?i am wondering know if the head gaskets i changed are blocking oil flow to rockers?
just curious if anyone knows how much oil should be on the rocker arms of a 340 when running ,I have the valve covers off and there is barely any oil. shouldnt it be running all over? the rockers just oil out of the 2 ports 1 on each head coming to the shaft right?
60 psi the rockers are aimes to the outside ,does it matter left or right on either head. this engine ran great untill i put those felpro gaskets in .i wish i would have measured the ones that i took out.they were more of a steel/graphite material ,probaly mopar performance.
ok i got my 340 together again and ran it,same dam lifter noise.i measured the pushrod witht the measuring tool.it was about 7.53 to get the preload to as close to .030 i could measure.so i got the 7.550pushrods that were already made.when i torqued the rocker shafts down the lifters at both...
i am wondering how exactly do you use the mopar kit with the shim to block the heat crossover? it seems that there isnt alot of gasket to go over the shim and seal it.its almost as thick as the gasket and it sure doesnt look like the gasket can get a good seal around it? what about using the...
i measured my pusrod length with my checker and it came out to about 7.530 with the lifter just depressed to contact then 1 turn with the pushrod tool.so i added .020 to get it to approx 7.550 length.apparantly this must be fairly common with the 8553 felpro gaskets?as there are many diffferent...
i take it the shim is on the head side?what is the purpose of the horseshoe part of head? i read about some people putting a allen screw in something to block off also?
thank you
do they all spin the same?hughes told me that when they spin lightly thats 0 preload about 1 turn of the adjuster adds .020 preload and thats minimum..040 is goal.oh by the way mopar doesnt have adjusters do they.lol.. i have found that comp cams has a noisey valve train with their fast ramp...
i am wondering where excatly are you suppose to put the shim on the intake gasket to block the heat crossover port.what is the open space for above the port?any tips on installing it i ahve a m1 dual plane and the moipar gaskets.
tks
i am trying to measure my pushrod length on my 340 with stock rockers.some of the hyrdaulic lifters will push in slightly and some are very stiff.is this normal ?how do you measure the .040 plunger preload ? should the lifters all either push in slightly or be real stiff..
tks
i bought a set from mancini last year for my a body ,talk about a confusing mess they are. i did convert to big bolt pattern and put on 2.5 brakes ,but my shafts wouldnt even go into the rear.they were splined sloppy.had to use emery cloth on them then they didnt drill the studs for me so had...
i talked to a guy at the mopar tech line and he told me to just check and see what length i need.same thing at smith brothers pushrods.the peole at felpro and summitt just couldnt find any answers ,at least summit referred me to mopar all felpro did was make excuses he didnt even have an idea to...
i dont have the drums but they are easy to find at local parts house ,i am not sure if these are 2 or 2.5 but i believe the backing plates will work for 2 or 2.5 just make sure the drums are the same.all the bhardwar i sinstalled on these. if interested i can go measure exactly what they are.i...
i ran it with the gaskets and it sounds like a rattling noise, when it revs up its much quieter.its loudest at idle,i rolled the motor ove today and checked each pushrod on the flat side.they all spin easily and the rockers slide side to side easily, shouldnt the pushrods be tighter ?as the lobe...
is there spark out of the coil terminal when cranking?see if there is power on the + side of coil when cranking.could be something simple on the ignition key or power to coil side .i have put battery voltage there during cranking just as a test to try to isolate some things.
