    From one daily driven 4-door to another...congratulations! By far my Dart has been the best car I've ever owned. My '68 gets about 8000 miles a year (with points still), and so far has been to about 15 states.

    Hey guys, thanks for all the replies. Life has been crazy so I didn't check back on this til just now. Yes, it is an exhaust leak...I didn't have the clamp tight enough on the pipe going into the muffler.

    What is the top speed of this Valiant

    I can't speak for a 170, but I've done 105 on level ground in my 225/904/2.76 Dart. It's stock aside from a 390 Holley. Top speed with a passenger was 98, also on level ground. Given that, plus the 170's lower power but willingness to rev, I'd say 90 is feasible.

    Still haven't figured out the idle issue...

    Ok...carb tuning day!;) primary jet size is 51, so stock. Float was a little high, but not terrible. The accelerator pump is a 25...is that too small? Ive got the carb apart abd am not finding any dirt or anything if that sort.

    So a few months ago I had problems with my '68 missing and all kinds of nonsense..turned out that issue was a faulty ignition coil and wonky ballast resistor. Got that figured out, but there has been an ongoing issue with idle quality pertaining to fuel mix. I'm running idle at about 850 rpm...

    Ok, we are sorta in business now! The coil definitely was the culprit. Replaced it with a 1.5 ohm flamethrower, added the msd ballast, and it runs/idles without any sort of miss. I haven't had a chance to run it hard for a long distance yet (other than hauling some chickens this morning.;)), but...

    Follow up: bought the msd real last but haven't installed it yet. I think I need a new cool. The current flamethrower is 45011, and warm, its testing at only 2.8 ohm. Voltage readings are around 10.1, which I think is too high for points. Am I right about that?

    WOW! What a difference that made...totally fixed the spark issue! Thank you. :) Cold, the coil is testing at 9.6v...a lot different than the 6.2 it had when the ballast was in place. Cold startup is much easier now, too. Once warm, the spoil is staying at the same voltage, so there's no more...

    Ok, thanks! So, next question: what should the ohm reading be on the coil? I replaced the original with a flamethrower several year ago, reads 3.0 ohms. Too much? Not enough?
