    Distributor Question

Just purchased a custom set of 8.5 MSD plug wires with the straight boots for the 340. No.7 wire is stretched across the engine and has very little slack in it, because it connects to the cap on the far side, ( passenger side). My No.1 wire is at the back of the cap against the fire wall...

    Carbonned Up

What would cause the No.4 spark plug to carbon up on my 340? All the other plugs have a nice tan colour. Running Autolites 65. I might have a bad plug wire?? (Accell's) Timing is right on. Any ideas?

    Torsion bar upgrade

Shane Be carefull with 15" rims of the front. You could have problems with tire rubbing as you crank the wheel. I have 235 60 14 on the front of mine. I have 1/4" clear. Maybe low profile tires, if you like that look. Jim

    Torsion bar upgrade

The big block A bodies definitely needs sway bars, especially with the smaller T bars. Unless you canyon carve a lot, you can probably get away with just the .920 bars with a 340. Sway bars are nice though. Haven't got around to installing mine yet.

    Strut rod bushings?

Everybody has their own preference as to how they want their car to sit. Mine had a lot of 'rake' to it when I bought it. After a complete front end rebuild, I cranked the front up a bit so it only has a little amount of rake. But I like the way it sits now. Had the alignment done based on...

Looking for a 67' Barracuda Fan Shroud

If your rad is rotted, then obviously fix that first. Clutch fan is another good idea, and do that next. If you can't find the proper shrould, you can always make your own. I tried to make a bunch of them work and they just didn't. I was told they would fit, then they would not. I...

    Defroster Hoses

Shane I wonder if that aluminum flex tubing for dryer vents would work. I've seen that smaller dia., about 2" or there abouts???? Try Rona or Home Depot??? Worth a shot. Jim

    Water pump gasket

The Right Stuff is the right stuff. Any auto supply house should carry it. I'll never use a paper gasket again. Awsome product!

    Front End Problems

I wouldn't be satisfied unless I gave it a good once over. Who knows what previous owners have done to the car. The front strut bushing could be installed improperly, creating the negative caster, could be in the steering box or coupler..... You need to isolate these parts one at at time...

    340 Hot Start Issues.

Is your 340 really cammed and stroked? Got headers? 750 seems like a lot of carb for the RPM intake. The carb spacer helped a bit under the old Carter. My hard starting problems went away when I switched to a 650 Vac Holley. I was able to remove the 1/2" spacer, which affected the low end...

    orange or chrome ecu box?

I think most of these boxes fail because of bad grounds, wiring, and corroded connections. Some components don't get a full 12v when they should, and as a result of increased resistance, the components get hot and fail. I believe my orange box failed as a result of some wiring problems I...

    paint fuel tank or not

A black tank will attract heat from the sun reflecting from the pavement. I would clear it or go with aluminum or silver colour.

    Flex Plate

While I'm at it... My 340 is a 73 with cast crank and proper balancer, but has the four legged flex plat for internal balance. My TQ is aftermarket and nuetral. 904 trans. B&M makes 10234 and 10235 flex plate. Which one do I need and why? I can't tell the difference. Thanks

    Total Timing?

Shane The vacuum only functions beyond the mechanical top limit. Has no influence on the ping issue. Just gas milage. If it pingged at 12* and you use a vacuum guage to set initial....yeah, it will idle higher and smoothen out, but your initial will go even high...exacerbating your ping...

    Total Timing?

Shane That a good article..lots of good info. In a nut shell...your mechanical timing is coming in way to soon which is causing your ping. Your initial should be close to 20* with your set up. Vaccum advance will not cause ping. I sent my dizzy out to Dave at FBO in Calgary. Got it back...

    Flex Plate

O.K. I had a good cry...I'm out of beer...and a little hung over. If I undo the tranny and slide it back two or three inches I should get access to the trany bolts, no? I was thinking of undoing the tranny mount, slide it back along the cross member to support it, then support the...

    Flex Plate

Hey Guys I want to replace my flex plate, but after I undid my TQ, it would only go into the trany about 1/4". No way to get at the crank bolts...hardly see them. Do I rotate the TQ until it slips back. Don't say the trany has to come out!!!! Whats going on?

    Thermostat housing- small block

Where were you 5 R & R's ago?! LOL I put a straight edge on the manifold mating surface, and it's not flat. It dips down at the bolt hole locations causing the cup. The housing is now flat since I took 80 grit to it. Will do the same with manifold...should be OK. Thanks

    Thermostat housing- small block

This is exactly what I did. Made sure to not overtighten also, still leaked. The more you tighten, the more it leaks because it cups.

    Thermostat housing- small block

What year housings were made of cast iron and not white metal. I can't stop mine from leaking. I sanded it flat with 80 grit as suggested. It was warped alright. This is my fourth attempt. I'm not over tightening it. I will try it one more time with no gasket and RTV only. I looks like...

    Ld 340

I just put the LD 340 back on. Started up OK except the timing need to be adjusted once the dizzy went back in. I NOW read on the Victory Tech Papers site that "the plenum is divided except for a small notch for idle balance". How much of a notch and where? All the pics of dual planes I've...

    Kick down linkage

Shawn: You have a spring missing on the KD. Look at the pics and note that the spring may need to be lengthend with automotive wire, so that the wire passes thru the hole in the KD, with washer installed. Any automotive spring will work. You don't want a real stiff spring. Just strong enough...
