    acceleration

currently running a carter 2 bbl setup on a 1971 slant six and 904 trans setup in my 65 valiant. i've noticed that acceleration is always a bit slow (granted, it's better with the 2 bbl setup vs the stock 1 bbl), especially when accelerating from a stop or traveling on a slight incline. i'm...

    Battery voltage drop

Hi, I've had to charge my battery twice in about 3 weeks. At full charge it's about 12.42v, and at idle it seems to be dropping to 12.10. It's been a day since I charged it and already the current voltage is 12.10, 12.00 or less at idle. When I increase the throttle, voltage increases, but...

    Motor dies after startup.

I have a slant 6 converted to an electronic distributor with an MSD box and coil, also a super six setup with the 2 barrel carter. I have not run the car for extended periods of time in over 5 years, but last week I was driving it around the neighborhood, and the engine was fine, idle and...

    Rubbing sound?

Recently did a front end rebuild and a disc brake conversion to the single piston floating style calipers/rotors. Used a pair of remanufactured calipers, and the rotors are returned with plenty of meat on them. Bled them a few months ago, but never drove it. The other day took it on a road test...

    NSS / backup lights question

I have a 1965 Plymouth Valiant (auto, column shift) that has a 1971 Dodge Dart 904 trans. Although it was originally a column shifter I have it hooked up via cable on a B&M floor shifter. I'm in the process of wiring up my NSS and reverse lights. I want to make sure I have this right: - the...

Starter won't engage when key is turned.

When key is turned in the ignition, starter won't engage. However, when the key is merely in the ignition, and I manually bypass the relay by connecting the constant 12v line in to the solenoid out, it starts right up. I replaced the starter relay pretty recently (about a year ago). And I also...

    parking brake retaining clips?

Looking for those flat U-shaped clips that hold the parking brake cable housing in place on the chassis. The slot is about 3/8" wide. Anyone got a part no. or an online source for these? The only thing i was able to turn up was on Amazon pricing them at $5 apiece. I have a hard time believing...

Startup with new carb, new fuel filter?

Hi all, Just installed a rebuilt Carter BBD 2 bbl carb on my slant. Also added a new FRAM clear fuel filter. Car started before I changed out the carb, but issues with the old carb led me to buying a rebuilt one on ebay, so as far as I know it's good to go. The car won't start. And I've used...

    hard line plumbing

hi all, working on plumbing the front brakes in a drum to disc conversion (1965 valiant to 1976 duster front end). i'm a little confused as to what i'd need to have a well-working system - everyone seems to have a slightly different view on what's needed. i came up with a simple diagram: do...

    knuckle bolts too long?

didn't use the splash shield, bolted on the knuckle to the lower ball joint. these are parts from a 76 duster. is it me or are these bolts a little too long? there's probably about 1/2-3/4" sticking out from the back. i'm worried that the bolts will hit the LCA when the steering is turned lock...

    Best remanufactured single piston calipers?

Hi all. In the middle of an early A-body disc brake swap to the 1976 duster style single piston calipers. Was able to push out the piston on the left caliper so I think this one can be rebuilt, but am in need of a right side caliper, as the piston is seized in there and refuses to come out...

    Wheel bearing on rotors?

Any idea how to get this out? It looks like a bearing, a rubber seal around it, and some other kind of ring around that. And even if I get it out, does that mean I have to get new bearings pressed into the rotor?

    The I'm-Learning-As-I-Go 1965 Valiant Post

I was a bit intimidated about posting in this section, as I'm definitely no expert on my own car. You won't see any gorgeous garages or work spaces here. I have a carport, and I work for the most part in the sun, the rain, etc. But I was really inspired by needsaresto's thread, so I'm posting...

    Parking brake release cable?

Does anyone here have a source for either new or NOS parking brake release cables for a 1965 Valiant? Ordered the middle and rear cables from Rock Auto already, but for whatever reason, don't have the one that goes from the brake handle to the outside of the car. I'm not turning up much luck on...

By way of Indiana to California to Hawaii

He had just graduated from Purdue University in West Lafayette, and was on his way home to Hawaii to deliver the car. He drove it nearly three-quarters across the United States...
