Poly Engine what was good/bad about it and why is the LA better?

I had these custom made. I wanted them made to exit at the same point as the stock manifolds. In hindsight, I should have had the passenger side designed the same way as the drivers side is. Oh well still works!

Poly Engine what was good/bad about it and why is the LA better?

@RustyRatRod Oh I'm not discounting his work at all. Had a good chat with him on mine. He was baffled with my low exhaust port flow numbers. I have another set I might get tested, just to see if mine were a one off or not. My intake ports averaged 220 cfm with very little work done to them and...

Poly Engine what was good/bad about it and why is the LA better?

Very similar. Thick wall castings, a little more material in the bellhousing area and maybe the lifter valley. I haven't measured that, but it does look beefier. Doesn't have as many freeze plugs as the LA. Chrysler changed very little to adapt to the LA. It's why the LA still has the 59 degree...

Poly Engine what was good/bad about it and why is the LA better?

    I believe it was a 350 B engine. Biggest poly was a 326 in 1959 only.

Poly Engine what was good/bad about it and why is the LA better?

They are really thick wall castings. They can be taken to a 4.00" bore very easily.

Poly Engine what was good/bad about it and why is the LA better?

Amazingly, I did not have one from my engine, but here is a good shot of the valvetrain.

Poly Engine what was good/bad about it and why is the LA better?

The headers are custom made. Tried to get them to match up to the stock exit locations. In hindsight, I would have done the passenger side differently. The cam is from Camcraft. 224/224 @.050" solid .450" lift. 110 degree lobe separation 106 ICL. Very flat torque curve. Over 300 lb/ft from 3000...

Poly Engine what was good/bad about it and why is the LA better?

The Poly has a great intake port. The exhaust port really need help though. And as previously mentioned, they can't be hogged out for huge numbers. Here's a pic of mine. 294 HP and 320 TQ. More show than go, but I'm ok with that.

    5.9 AKA 360

The mods I did for my 97 dakota 5.2L really woke it up. I assume you would see the same if not greater gains on the 5.9L Ported TB 14x3 open element Crower 1.7 roller rockers Ported heads M1 intake R/T cam 204/208 @ .050" Edelbrock headers into a high flow cat and flowmaster delta 50 muffler...

    Freshening up Dad's Satellite

Finally got her back on the road, fittingly on what would be Dad's 73rd birthday. A999 transmission works extremely well with this combination. Cruises a little over 2000 rpm at 60 mph. Very happy with the results.

Which cam will work decently with stock magnum tune?

Going to 1.7 rockers woke my 5.2 up in my 97 Dak. Or the 262HR-12 comp cams. Pretty close to the Mopar R/T cam. Extra 2 degrees on both intake and exhaust, lobe separation is 112 compared to 114 for the R/t Cam and slightly more lift. I have both the 1.7's and R/T cam in my Dak. Really wakes it...

    Disappointed magnum head flow numbers....

My magnum heads were 215-219 stock and 242 @.500" after porting on the intake. Exhaust were surprisingly good at 163 stock and 180 after porting. All at 28". I will the casting quality between the 2 heads were very different ends of the spectrum! One was a nice smooth finish, the other was very...

    Freshening up Dad's Satellite

Engine and transmission are back home where they belong. Next up is measure up for the driveshaft. Couple more patches to close up on the floor and sound deadening. Then I'm stalled on the interior waiting for my carpet to come into stock.

    88 318 Cop motor heads?

I have a 87 318 cop. Standard broomstick HFT cam with 345 360 heads. Nothing special. At least it's roller block though. Does have roller timing chain. Does have slightly higher compression height pistons to make up for the 360 head. They claim 9:1 compression, but I think they are optimistic.

    Freshening up Dad's Satellite

One step closer. Spent the day at the dyno breaking the new cam in and tuning the old girl up. Ended up with 292hp and 327 tq. Very flat torque curve. Should be great for it's intended purpose. Back to the floor pan work now. Not the greatest picture, and failed to video a run, but happy with...

    Freshening up Dad's Satellite

Got a little more work done. The floor pan is cut out. Crossmember is going to need some reinforcing on the outer edges. Center portion is in very good shape. Also got the engine repainted as the paint on the block was looking pretty rough after 20+ years.

Post your favorite car photo and tell us why

Have a couple that I like. Couple of the Dart, one of the Satellite and one of my Dad driving the Satellite and myself driving the Dart. Like the black and white effect on the Dart pics. The Satellite just looks really good in this pic and the Father/Son pic is pretty self explanatory

    Freshening up Dad's Satellite

Well, 2020 happened. I had taken the oil pan off to replace the gasket on the poly. When I was cleaning the pan, I noticed some greyish looking material coming up on the rag. Upon closer inspection, a lobe on the cam was on it's way out. Caught it very early, and very happy I didn't find out...

Cams for otherwise Stock 5.9 Magnums?

It amazes me with ma mopar, that they can never seem to give an accurate number for their cam specs. My 5.2L cam was no where near the printed specs I could find. Mine measured out to 244/256 183/195 .411/.431. The printed specs I found was 250/264 .431/.431. So the #'s DionR has doesn't...

Cams for otherwise Stock 5.9 Magnums?

The R/T cam was a Mopar performance offering as an upgrade from stock. The stock 5.9L cam had very low lift at .398 if memory serves.

Cams for otherwise Stock 5.9 Magnums?

The stock 5.2L magnum cam is actually an upgrade compared to the stock 5.9L. For a little extra pep without changing the cam, you could go to 1.7 rr's. Made a noticeable difference on my 5.2L in my Dakota. The original R/T cam from mopar is a nice mild upgrade also 260/264 adv. 204/208 .050...

    4.3L Power!

Drove the first version of the 4.7L for a work truck. Not bad unloaded, but with the 3.55 gears struggled to stay in O/D with any kind of load or pulling a trailer. Admittingly, I usually pulled the trailer in drive regardless, but did forget to turn O/D off on occassion.

    318 LA Roller?

Yes, not all 318's 85 up are rollers. I got one from a 87 dipomat cop car that was the flat tappet. Disappointed to say the least! Block is drilled and tapped for the roller setup. Got the spider and dogbones from a blown 318 mag from my buddy.
