'Cuda is apart. Most of the primer work is done. Next is some sheet metal work. Once that is done, paint. Motor is going to be refreshed since it is out of the car.
Update on the 'cuda. Found the dog dish hubcaps. Put on a Edelbrock carb, but have the 4611 which will go back on the car. Had a spare Hurst shifter rebuilt and will be installed. There needs to be some other mechanical work done, brakes for one, nothing real major
'cuda is at S&S...
After much searching, spending money, the problem was a bent water pump pulley. The vibration disappeared once that was replaced. Live and learn!
Pa karp
Pulled the carb, it was fine. Replaced the orange ignition box with the blue one. Engine idles rough and will not idle below 1000 rpm. Timing is set at 12 degree initial. Above 1500 rpm the car pulls hard in all 4 gears. when I shut the engine off, it will diesel. When the car dies at...
I have an issue with my 340 4 speed. The engine has developed a low speed stumble. It seems to run fine at high way speed.
I have replaced the coil and distributor cap. The ignition has been converted to electronic ignition.
I checked one of the spark plugs, it looks to have normal...
1971 'cuda 340 275 HP factory, NHRA factored to 314. 1971 'cuda 383 300 HP factory, NHRA factored to 300 HP. Can I say Thermoquad! Back up a year, the 340 is factored to 299. The 383 is factored to 300. But, the 1971 Duster/Demons were the car to have....with the 340.
Interesting that the 1968 B bodies 383's 330 hp and 335 hp (RR) are factored to 295 hp and 296 hp respectively. The RR had the 440 heads, cam, intake and exhaust manifolds. The RR 383 was the ultimate in 383 power. A good friend had a 68 Satellite post with the 330 hp 383. it was a half...
1968 Barracuda, 383, 300hp factory. NHRA factored to 295hp. 1968 Barracuda, 340, 275hp, factory. NHRA factored to 299hp. Same NHRA factors as 1969. Fastback 383 can run a different class then the 340.
68, 69 and 70/were the years for us gear heads. We could not wait to see what was coming next! Then "Big Brother" and the insurance companies decided we were having to much fun and the slide started in 71 and was pretty much over with by 74. Muscle was a dime a dozen! Memories.....
The discussion is centered on A body Barracudas 383 powered compared to A body Barracudas 340 powered, 1969 models. If we wish to go off subject, a 71 340 Thermoquad Duster/Demon will out run all of them, excepting a well tuned Hemi, a 440 six pack or a M code. A good running NHRA 71 340...
I am fortunate to have reaquired my A56 I bought new, it crushed 396's in 1969 and it still does in 2016. I also owned 2 1968 Road Runners, 383 powered of course, that also crushed 396's. MOPAR!
In NHRA "Stock" trim, the 1969 340 275 HP is rated at 299 HP. The 383 330 HP is rated at 295 HP. With everything else equal, the 340 will out perform the 383. I am not saying the 383 is a boat anchor, it is not. There are several that will run in the 10's. But, the 340 will be a little...
