I just had a similar problem, very rough idle even with a freshly rebuilt carb. (1920 holley) ...We checked the valves and found the exhausts valves were too tight. Adjusted them to spec and it runs like a watch.

No black smoke...blow by of 'course but that's clear...I did have some leakage on the carb but replaced both gaskets...fuel pump maybe?

Hey Guys, I just wanted to tell you, I picked up a 1970 to put in my 65' bought the bushing from Charrlie and dropped it in and reconnected everything. Its running but not very well. It keeps missing and the longer it runs the worse it misses. So my next plan is to use some Marvel Mystery oil...

So...I ended up getting a 1970 /6 and 904 tranny for 200 bucks...drove 2 and 1/2 miles past forever to get it. I'm gonna try with all my might to keep the original tranny and get the adapter ring from Charrlie (as you recommended). Thank you for all the valuable information. It's already saved...
