Brake line installation for 75 Dart proportioning valve

Thanks for the help on this, 67Dart273. You may be right on eventually having to use an adjustable valve. I guess the only way to know for certain is to hook everything up and see how the car stops. Thanks again. DC

Brake line installation for 75 Dart proportioning valve

I'm using the disc brake proportioning valve and a master cylinder from a 75 Dart to complete a front disc brake conversion on my 59 Plymouth. I bought the valve and the master cylinder new, so I didn't see how the lines from the cylinder and to the front and rear brakes were set up. There are...

What was your very first car?

My first car was a 59 Plymouth Fury 2 door hardtop, purchased on June 12, 1967 for $550. It had a 318 poly and 2 speed Powerflite transmission. I still have it, and here's a pic.

    Huge pile of mopars. Literally!

I imagine a lot of us knew these cars would always be special; I also imagine that more than a few of us, like me, didn't have the extra money back then to buy them up before they hit the junkyard. I clearly remember some pretty nice 3-deuce GTOs, 440-6bbl GTXs, and Road Runners sitting on car...

    65 Barracuda... Got BAD News...

Before you go through the trouble and expense of changing engines, there are a few things you need to determine: 1. Which cylinder, or how many, have either zero or very low compression? 2. What are the compression readings on the low cylinders? 3. What are the compression...

    Any LH fans out there?

My 98 Intrepid ES 3.2 has 145,000 miles on it, and my 2001 300M 3.5 has 76,000 on it. Both have been ultra-reliable. Both have had routine service-brakes, tires, oil/trans. fluid and filter changes, etc. I did a scheduled timing belt/water pump replacement on the Intrepid at 90,000, and...

    79 360 cam selection

The May 2001 issue of Mopar Muscle had an article doing pretty much what you are trying to do. They started with a junkyard .040 over 360-4 bbl out of a Dodge truck and built it on the cheap, step by step. The initial dyno baseline (stock) showed 266.2 hp at 4300 rpm and 371.3 ft/lbs at 3300...

    3-on-the-tree?

One of these will help you learn how to "double-clutch"; one you master this, you can roll up to a stop light and slip the transmission into "1st" while rolling without grinding the gears. Harder to explain how to do it than it really is. Learned how to do it on a '61 Econoline pickup truck in...

    Mopars in the Wild

That's the "bellows-style" power brake booster. When you step on the brake with the engine running, the rubber bellows compresses to assist in the braking effort; makes a "whooshing" noise. The reserve vacuum tank is mounted close by on the inner fender, good for a couple of brake applications...

What do you guys pay for body work where you live?

The auto-body repair shop I use charges $50 per hour labor plus shop supplies/welding-fabrication for body work on older cars. (I supply all sheet metal parts) and getting the car structurally ready for the paint shop. Paint shop fees are separate. Their paint shop fees (including paint...

    Removing the starter

I used two or three long 3/8 drive extensions, working from the front of the engine past the driver side motor mount. Make sure they are long enough to reach the clear area near the front of the block. You will have to attach the extensions one by one as you go. Keep the extensions close to the...

    Autozone or Napa Echlin, Quality?

Standard Motor Parts is now a major component supplier of ignition and switch/relay parts to Echlin, who reboxes them. Standard used to be sold under the Blue Streak line of ignition/electrical auto parts. I worked for a while at a NAPA store where some of our part numbers came in mistakenly...

    Move seats back?

I did this on a 65 Barracuda. You'll have to use some sort of spacer (washers?) to keep the seats level...they tend to tilt left or right if you just drill new holes and move them. DC

Goodmark repro exterior door handles 65 Barracuda

Has anyone compared the Goodmark reproduction exterior door handles for a 65 Barracuda with a stock unit? There's a set on Ebay, along with a photo, but I can't tell if the dimensions are close or not. A set of NOS handles was selling on Ebay for 2 1/2 times the price of a pair of the Goodmarks...

Strangest thing found in your A body???

Back in 1970, I was cleaning the carpets in a 67 Barracuda Formula S fastback I had just bought; found a pair of blue bikini undies stuffed between the back seat cushion and the rear panel where the armrest goes. Size 4.; car had been traded in on a new Mustang by a knockout 30-something female...

Let's see your 1st generation barracuda

I bought this car in 1976 for $500, drove it forever, then restored it in 1990 and passed it along to pyp1000, my son. Car has Mark IV air conditioning, 8 3/4 Sure Grip and Nos high flow exhaust system with the square tip resonator. He added the Cragar SS mags and installed a Scarebird disc...

    Anybody else have 67 B'cuda Formula S with 7 1/4?

The 67 Formula S fastback I owned in 1970-72 was purchased straight off the car lot when the original owner (a nurse) traded it for a new 70 Mustang. It was box stock, with the 273-4 bbl, 904 Torqueflite, and a 7 1/4 open rear end that I had to eventually rebuild...the howling and clunking...

    '65 Barracuda tires

Most of the 65 273-2bbl cars were equipped with 13 inch wheels. If so, then the correct tire size was 6.50 X 13, with 7.00 X 13 optional, according to my '65 Mopar parts manual. Wheel size was 13 X 4.50.
