New Challenger - deep discounts again

I just bought a Sublime SXT with the Blacktop Package for $8000 off sticker. I love it so far.

Aw, sorry for your loss. It doesn't matter how old they are, it's always tough.

    Cat Pics

Thanks! I actually designed that and had one of my wife's coworkers (who does woodworking) build it. It's a cat stand/liquor cabinet, and the stairs have a hinged top so we can hide their cat toys in it. (We also have another cat, Diesel. He and Big Mac do NOT get along.)

This is our cat Big Mac. We got him from the Humane Society as a three year old, and he's a little weird. But he's handsome.

    Valve seal replacement

Don't overthink it. I changed all of them with air pressure and a cheap Harbor Freight valve compressor in an hour or two. I'm sure rope works just as well, and as Dan said above, it will be quieter than having your 15-year-old Craftsman oilless air compressor rattling away in the background.

    Car carrier/transporter needed

Auto Transport - DAVE'S NATIONWIDE CLASSIC RELOCATION. Last year, I used David Phelps at the link above. Great guy, no problems at all. It is an enclosed trailer and will cost more than the brokers, but I've had a hard time getting brokers to pick up my deliveries - they don't seem to want to...

    Anyone see the eclipse yesterday?

Yep, got a break in the clouds here in Michigan, and I got a pack of eclipse glasses last week. I love that stuff.

    Eddy 1405 tuning advice

Yeah, if the slightly stiffer springs made that much of a difference, I'd be swapping carbs just to see if something else was wrong. The Carter spring is almost sure to be stiffer than the pink spring.

    Eddy 1405 tuning advice

Totally unscientific, but factory Carter springs are probably on the stiffer side (depending on the engine). I don't know for sure, but I'd guess they were closer to the 8" springs in the Eddy kit. I'm sure, however, that every engine had a specific spring. I don't think you'll feel a...

    Eddy 1405 tuning advice

They're not exactly the same, but you can make them work. Have you tried the Carter in your picture? It's only a few minutes to see if the symptoms are the same with another carburetor. I think it's been mentioned on this thread, but Edelbrocks are running on the idle circuit at a higher...

    Eddy 1405 tuning advice

Did you say you also had a 1406? I wonder if you should pop it on there just to see if there's a quirk in the 1405. 1406s come set up a little lean, so if you have a set of 7347 or 7147 rods, you may want to pop them in. If not, you can still do a comparison.

Any reason you're not running Comp's suggested valve lash?

Is it possible that all the affordable project cars are now taken?

The secret is to like stuff that nobody else really wants! I really like Buicks, but unless it's a GS or something, they're just not that popular. 1970 Firebirds are insane. 1974 Firebirds are not. 1968 Darts are popular. 1965 Darts, not so much. Nobody wants a '61-'63 Thunderbird. They...

    Edelbrock springs 1406 and 1405

Do you have access to a single carb manifold? If you're going to be doing some miles, it may be better to narrow it down to one carb (you can try each to see which one runs better).

    500 AVS2 or 650 AVS2 ???

I'm running an AVS2 on my '63 Riviera. It's fine, but it feels no better than the Edelbrock 500 AFB on my Mustang. I don't think I'd spend the money to upgrade, personally, but I've spent a lot of money on carbs in my life, too, just to see how they work.

    Edelbrock springs 1406 and 1405

I think what Bewy is saying is that you may want to try using manifold vacuum advance to see if that helps you back off the idle screw a little and regain adjustability in your mixture screws.

    Holley 1945 Rebuild

No, a larger jet will only make more power if the engine is lean to begin with. If it's about right, you'll just use more gas. If it already has a 62 in there, you can probably leave it. If it is smaller than a 62, you may want to consider putting a 62 or a 63 in there, but that's just my...

    Holley 1945 Rebuild

The '74 Holley had something like a 58 jet in there, which is terribly lean. Everyone says the '74 carb is garbage, but I made it work with a 63 or so jet. My NOS carb is from a '75-'80 model, and it came with a 621 jet (which is a 62 on the small side according to literature). I changed that...

    Edelbrock springs 1406 and 1405

I think the 1405 comes standard with orange 5" springs in it, so unless you changed them, they might be about right.

    Holley 1945 Rebuild

Looks great! I've had those apart more times than I'd like; aside from their being set up a little leaner than I'd like, I've had decent luck with the 1945 on my '65 Dart. Luckily, I found a NOS one a while back, and the only thing I've changed is to up the jet one size. The '74 model that...

Jay Leno Showing The GTS Dart Some Love

I watched the Hagerty documentary on the Turbine Car the other day, and he said it melted a turbine and the regenerators. It sounds like it overheated for some reason. There's an aerospace company that's taken on the replacement parts, but the regenerators are the hard part. They're very...

1964 Dart 270 Wagon with 170, 3 on the tree and factory dealer installed AC

My '65 wagon is an original 170/3-speed AC car, but most of the AC parts were missing when I bought it. I've always thought it was a strange option for a nearly optionless base wagon, but I got the docs from Chrysler Historical, which agreed with the trim tag.

What Non mopar mechanic work are you doing

This is my first time working with a Buick Nailhead...it had two messed up rocker arms and valve tips. The machine shop replaced those valves, did a valve job, and milled the heads and exhaust manifolds for me. I'm also going to put in a new timing chain, oil pump, and motor mounts before...

    Window sweeps/felts for '65 wagon?

Thanks everyone...I ordered a set of window channels for the front doors first, then I'll see if I need the whiskers. I might not get to it for a while; I've been spending most of my garage time on my new '63 Riviera.

    Window sweeps/felts for '65 wagon?

Anyone have a good source for these? My driver's window is getting a bit rattly, and I'd like to replace the felts on that door. Thanks if anyone's bought a set and tried them out. A

[FOR SALE] Four 13" SBP Wheels - Free to good home!

As the title says, I have four SBP wheels I have no use for. I'm located in Bay City, MI, so if anyone wants them, come pick them up for free! I'd rather not scrap parts that someone could use, which is why I'm posting them here.

Had to let go of a friend yesterday.

I don't think it's off-topic. Car people seem to be very good to pets and really care about them. It's nice that there are so many of us on the car forums to offer a kind word (or some empathy in my case this week, because this is helping me, too).
