    Beginner's Bucks-Down /6 Build...Suggestions Welcome

OK Mopar Guys and Gals, I'm back. Got sidetracked for a few months. I'm still on it. Any good leads on Mopar junkyards within 50 miles or so of Atlanta? Dare I hope...barn finds? I'm living in Covington now. The Net here is not reliable, but I will be on as often as I can. Lost my main job doing...

I'm still around. Sorry I haven't been on lately. Life got in the way for a bit. Still is, so my search is on hold atm. I haven't forgotten, and I plan to continue this project as soon as I can. Thanks again for all the good helps.

That's true. The turbo is still an option, for later. After I become more familiar with how to tune and maintain one and after I have maybe 2 /6 engines in the garage as spares just in case... It's the same with what I do for a living. Electronics recycling, computer repair/refurb/resell. In...

Thanks. I plan to. I'm still looking hard for a car atm. Me, also. I always learn something, even if it doesn't directly apply to what I plan to do.

A reality check. Thanks. I needed that. I got ahead of myself. Appreciated. No apology necessary. I should note that I'm not inexperienced. I have helped to tune, build, and rebuild engines and transmissions, and helped to redo interiors. I have not yet built my own. And I have no experience...

Ah. OK. Noted. Thanks. But maybe I should stick with NA for now. I don't have the budget to replace the engine should I get it wrong.

It's cool. I like '67-'68 and '70-'72 Valiants also, but I prefer the Darts. 8)

You're welcome. Noted. I will. But your research, presentation, and experience in other areas count for much also. I wish you luck on your first run, when the time comes. And I wouldn't consider it wasted time. Frustrating, maybe, if it didn't work right the first time, but not waste.

BTW, This is a blue Dart like the one I'm searching for... And two others I also like. The second green one, depending on how far the rust has gotten, is OK.

LOL I bet I would! And surprise quite a few folks, too. Part 2 of the fun part. Thanks very much, Mr. Dedman. Your seal of approval means a lot. I learned quite a bit from your posts, and the most from your comparison of Turbo /6 vs. HotRod V8. I'm strongly considering going the turbo route...

Noted. Thanks. I will search it out. At first, though, I'll likely go with a stock pump modded for better feel. The Borgeson unit can be a "for later".

LoL cool :-D Thanks. I plan to. As for my build plan, I've added a stock 7-blade viscous drive fan, better fan shroud, cold air induction setup, and battery relocation to the trunk to the list. If I did go turbo, given my current budget limits, it would be the setup described by ssrixon4406...

Agreed. But for a good cruiser, the /6 will do me just fine. I like it's durability, reliability, and generally low maintenance and fuel costs compared to the V8's. I'd also rather have the /6 over the V8 because I like being different. IMO, although the V8's are OK and have their place, they...

Thanks :-D I like it here. Great people and quality information. I plan to become a Gold Member soon. That is my main priority. If I get a runner, safety first. If I get a roller, get it running, then safety first. It won't see road time til it is safe to drive. What would be a better option...

True, that. Good price. I like the way you included the costs of parts in your thread. Nice car, too. I prefer doing an 8.25 from another A-Body. How much, on average, does the Ford rearend cost vs the A-Body 8.25? And would mating the Ford rear brakes to the MoPar front brakes be a problem?

"So that means you set a goal and make it happen, either you learn, you pay, or you dont." True, that. With cars, and in life overall. I should clarify what I meant by "design limitations". I want the tire / wheel combination to look like it belongs there. No bigger wheels and rubberband tires...

Based on SlantSixDan's post here http://www.slantsix.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=44170 "I like my cars quiet, so I get my exhaust unrestriction by using a larger-than-stock, stock-type muffler. The stock unit was really tiny, with 1¾" inlet and 1½" outlet, in a 3" × 7" body. Tiny! You can go...

No need for sorry. It's a valid question and a good point. The main reason is preference. I like being different. But I also need the extra space and easier access. It's also cheaper for me for insurance. I like the 2-door Dart GT's and Swingers. My Mom had a '71 318 Swinger. My Dad had a '68...

Yet another good reason to upgrade the rearend. As for the tires you referenced earlier, what is the largest size I can put on the car without compromising safety, handling, and design limitations?

    Beginner's Bucks-Down /6 Build...Suggestions Welcome

Good points. I plan to use the car as a dd to and from work and in general. The cruising will be mostly back roads on the weekends when the car isn't being wrenched on. I live near Atlanta, GA, just Southeast of Decatur and the roads are mostly flat with a few good hills here and there. I prefer...

Noted. Thanks much for the details you included with your suggestions. I do hope to have fun with and enjoy this car for years to come. Learning, wrenching, driving, and surprising people. I should explain the reason for the larger rearend for the '68 or '70-'72. The main reason I chose that...

Hello all. This is a great site. I have spent hours browsing here and at /6.org and have gathered a treasure trove of information. That's the hard part... so many good ideas, it's hard to choose exactly what to do. I am working on getting the car now. I hope for a 68 Dart 270 more door, but I...

    Hello MoPar Folks

Hello :D Like your nick... ABodyBomber. That's what I dream of doing with a '68-'69 or '73-'74 Dart sedan. Make it a /6 "sleeper". Not really a hotrod, just a good cruiser that's faster and handles/stops better than it did new.

    [WANTED] 1968 Dart 270 "beater" 4-door sedan LH41

Thanks. I'll take a look at it. You're right about the 68's. Even the sedans are getting very hard to find. I plan to search Wildcat Auto Wrecking and Desert Valley Auto Parts, among others. If I still can't find one, I also like the 73-74 Dart sedans, preferably without skirts and a vinyl roof.
