I can't find this bolt to adjust timing. It wouldn't be a set screw on the side would it?

I've got the manual but I don't know where exactly the screw is that keeps the distributor from moving.

I'm at a loss on how to adjust my timing. I have a stock 318 in a 76 scamp. I just got my carb tuning issues figured out but I need to adjust the timing to get it right. How do I go about doing this?

Anyone? Timing?

Well, I did some more tinkering and I've got her running way better. Night and day difference. My choke was opening all of the way but seems to close back up while sitting there at idle for a while. I think I need to adjust the timing a little. Where is the set screw that holds it in place?

Also, do I make the choke adjustment warm or cold? Thank you for all of the help!

It is high on the carb btw. I missed the low part that you said. It comes out at the side and is at the very top of the carb.

Copy that! I would say that it is about 1/4 in. That could explain some things. What should I plug it with? Sorry I'm acting so brand new, but I am. Haha! I will check for that adjustment as well.

Also, that port is not hooked up to anything? Should it be?

All of that happens except the choke wide open. If the choke is wide open the plate is straight up and down right? That is the choke right? Exactly how hard would the cold start be?

Ok, so to add to this conundrum of mine, there is an unexplained, what looks to be a vacuum hose hookup that is fairly large on the opposite side of the carb from the idle adjust screw. I do not see it pictured or talked about in my manual, so I don't know what engine it's from. I looked at...

Thermostat rod? When my engine is warm I can move the choke to wide open but it doesn't stay there. What can cause this?

What exactly does the choke vacuum kick do? Anything? It has a linkage connected to the choke on the other side of the carb.

Not sure if there is a release. I will look in my manual. I will be studying that tonight apparently. So much more involved than I thought it was going to be.

That makes sense, so what do I need to do to get it open all the way when it's warm?

So I need to keep it open then? Mine stays at 1/4 of the way open when it's warm.

So the choke should be wide open when the engine is warm? I didn't think it was suppose to be. Or am I suppose to open the choke and keep it open while I adjust? When the carb is cold and nothing has been touched, what should I have my settings at? Idle mixture screws, idle speed, choke...

Also, where should my choke be when I'm making these adjustments? Does it matter?

I don't have a tach either. Best way to by ear the rpm's?

Do I need to do anything with fast idle once I have the idle good?

Also, oldmopardude, what do i do once i get good idle?

I need one center cap for the SBP Rallye wheels. I can't remember what year they are though. I will find out and post later.
